Work History (cont’d)
O June 2003-2009 Protocol Analyst IV, Vanderbilt
Institutional Review Board.I started with VHRPP in June of 2003 and was assigned to HS1
and worked alongside Dena Johnson. Those were the days of
paper files and long Thursdays. Wow, those were the days! In
2005 I became the Team Leader for the HSRC/RDRC
Committees and soon after acquired both HS1 and the
Radiation Committees.
Work History (cont’d)
O January 2002 Research Coordinator, Dept. of
Emergency Medicine.
Responsible for coordinating all aspects of research studies in
the Emergency Dept., including contracts, IRB submissions,
and clinical nursing/pt care. I had my own lab and everything.
This was my introduction to research at Vanderbilt; a direction
I never conceived I would venture.
Work History (cont’d)O 1999 – 2002 Registered Nurse, Vanderbilt
Emergency Dept.I worked as a staff nurse in the Emergency Dept. If you want
to see team work…there’s your example. When things go bad,
I would trust any one of them with my life and that of my
family. I loved working the trauma bays. I felt at home in the
ED and enjoyed the interactions with patients and families. I
also enjoyed working as preceptor for newly hired staff,
paramedics, and nursing students.
Work History (cont’d)
O 1996 – 1999 Registered Nurse, Vanderbilt
University Medical Center
Worked as staff nurse in neuro-surgical ICU, performing such
tasks as patient care with complex monitoring, and also
served as charge nurse. I was fresh out of nursing school, so
this was very intimidating at first. The sickest of the sick. It
was a very stressful place to work, but I will cherish the
memories and the experience. Oh the stories I have….
O 1990 – 1996 Carpenter/Electrician, StudentNot much else to say on this one….
Emphasis on Student!
Work History (the beginning)
O 1984 – 1990 Aircrew/Avionics/Aviation Electrician, United States Coast Guard
After high school I went into the United States Coast Guard with big plans….. The big plans didn’t pan out like I expected, but it was a good choice for me. I can say that this decision has directed most of my professional life. In many respoects, it defines me . In the Coast Guard I was certified aircrew for search and rescue, and medevac. When not flying, I worked as an airframe electrician. I also worked as a firefighter for airport support.
