Welcome

Welcome to the Jacksonville University Davis College of Business Master of Business Administration

program (MBA). Our MBA program is one of a few AACSB-accredited DBA programs in the nation. The

MBA curriculum emphasizes the practical application of advanced business topics and evidence-based

decision-making.

In our efforts to enhance your educational experience, we have created a Student Handbook to address

common questions or concerns that may arise during your time as graduate students in the Davis

College of Business. The Handbook covers a variety of subjects, policies and procedures. While we hope

you find the Handbook informative, we would like to clarify that contents are for general information

and do not constitute advice about specific situations and circumstances. Contact the Graduate Office

[email protected] for more information.

Please read and review the Handbook carefully and refer to it to answer questions that may arise.

Updates to this document will be sent to you via email and posted on your MBA 101 Blackboard. For

more information concerning University Policies and Procedures, please refer to the 2019-2020

Jacksonville University Academic Catalog (“JU Catalog”). In the situation of conflicting policies, the JU

Catalog precedes this document.

Sincerely,

Dr. Angela Mattia Associate Dean, Graduate Programs Director

Academic Standards and Policies Academic Standards and Grade Appeals All MBA, EMBA, MSABA, MSAL, and MSOL graduate program students must maintain an academic GPA of at least 3.0 (“B”) during enrollment in their program. To graduate, a student must have at least a 3.0 GPA. No course in which a grade below a “C” (2.0) is earned will be accepted as fulfilling a requirement of the graduate degree. For the purposes of determining academic standing, purely elective courses, foundation courses, or courses taken on a transient basis will not be included in the GPA computation. An MBA, EMBA, MSABA, MSAL, or MSOL graduate program student will be placed on Academic Probation at the conclusion of any semester in which the student’s cumulative GPA is less than a 3.0(B). The student has the following one semester (or two courses) to raise the cumulative GPA to a 3.0. A graduate student will be dismissed from the program if the student does not raise the cumulative GPA to a 3.0 within one semester (or two courses) of being placed on Academic Probation. A graduate student earning one grade of “F” in any graduate course (excluding foundation courses) will be dismissed from the program. A student can appeal to the Graduate Advisory committee to retake a foundation course if they earn an “F”. A second “F” in a foundation course will result in immediate dismissal from the program. Any graduate student earning one grade of “F” in any graduate course (excluding foundation courses in the MBA, MSOL and MSABA) will be dismissed from the program. Students dismissed from a graduate program have 30 days in which to appeal the action to the Graduate Advisory Committee. The Committee will review the appeal and make a recommendation to the Dean who will rule on the appeal. Grade Appeal Process The graduate programs follow the Jacksonville University established procedures and appeals process for grade and academic dishonesty appeals.

Academic Honesty and Misconduct All students of the Davis College of Business are expected to adhere to the highest standard of academic honesty. It is the responsibility of all students to ensure that the integrity of this standard is not violated. The programs define academic dishonesty as: submission of false records of academic achievement; cheating on assignments or examinations; plagiarizing, altering, forging or misusing a University academic record; taking, acquiring or using test materials without faculty permission; acting alone or in cooperation with others to falsify records or to obtain dishonestly grades, honors, awards or professional achievement. See the JU Catalog 2019-2020 for Academic Honesty Policies and the Procedures for addressing Academic Dishonesty. Procedures for Addressing Academic Misconduct - The Davis College of Business adheres to the established processes and procedures of Jacksonville University regarding definitions and

11

standards for academic honesty and all appeals as outlined in the Academic Information section of this catalog. Davis College of Business Penalties for Academic Misconduct in Graduate Classes The course-level penalty for academic misconduct for all Davis College of Business graduate courses unless specifically stated differently in the syllabus of the instructor is failure for the entire course (the student will receive an “F”) and dismissal from the program. All instructors will report all acts of misconduct, even if they believe those acts to be unintentional. Attendance Policy Given the accelerated structure of the program, class attendance is strongly recommended. In the event that a serious medical or family emergency compels a student to miss a portion of any course, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the course professor as soon as possible. For emergency absences, make up work and/or grading adjustments will be at the discretion of the faculty member who is teaching the course.

Grades Quality points are obtained by multiplying the number of credit hours attempted by the value assigned to the grade earned. The Quality Point Index (QPI) is obtained by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of credits attempted. Program Completion FLEX MBA, MSABA and MSOL students must successfully complete all course work no later than five (5) years after the completion of the first graduate-level course taken after entrance into the program. Accelerated MBA students are in a cohort-based program and must complete all course work in 12 months. The Graduate Programs Director in conjunction with the Graduate Program Committee must approve any exception to this rule after receipt of a written waiver request from the student.

Student Safety and Security In the event of an emergency, students must be familiar with Jacksonville Security Report and Safety Guide, which can be found by visiting https://www.ju.edu/healthycampus/fitness/safety.php

To assist you in connecting to DolphinNet, we have set up a website with instructions. If you are running Windows XP or Vista, even some software will automatically set up your computer. You do not have to be a Local Administrator on your computer to set up a wireless connection. The link to the website can be found at the IT website: http://it.ju.edu/

Student E-Mail Jacksonville University has joined the Live.edu service hosted by Microsoft in order to provide students with a better e-mail service. The systematic instructions on setting up an e-mail account for the first time can also be found at the IT website:
