HISTORY• Mormon Pioneers took control of
the land in Davis County in 1847.• By the 1870’s the land was the
garden spot of Utah. The farmers were willing to experiment with many different crops.
• After WWII farming was no longer the most important part of Davis County, because the Hill Air Force Base was built in the North part of the county.
• In 1963 a bustling manufacturing and distribution center was built called the Freeport Center.
THE LAND The small county of Davis is nestled in between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. Davis County is has a land area of 630 square miles.
of that, 365 square miles is the Great Salt Lake, leaving only about 265 square miles of land.
Streams from the mountains to the East have providedwater for agriculture and, more recently, for fast growing population.
