His deep knowledge of the teaching, as well his ability to relate it to our everyday lives, are indeed truly exceptional. This is an opportunity that should not be missed if at all possible. Ideally, if you can attend the whole 4 day program, that would be great. If not, it is possible to attend the first two days. The view of how the path unfolds is known as the Four Dharmas of Gampopa. Kindful Resilience Introduction to Viniyoga with Jan Beange

Does your practice allow you to become aware of the breath and the environment you have created around the breath? Do you want greater freedom and ease in body, mind and heart? Then dive into an exploration of Viniyoga with Jan Beange (RYT500), integrating gentle movement, breath, meditation and sound. Viniyoga methods create a deep connection between breath, body and mind. Through gentle breath-centric movement, you can learn how to use your breath patterns to discover, recover and coordinate with your fundamental well-being. Recognizing the present in this way enables body and mind to be synchronized for general health, well-being, natural ease and contemplative insight. Being with Aging: An Exploration Mondays 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

In this series of conversations, we are exploring the challenges and opportunities of aging in a society of imbalances: between safety and freedom, between long life and quality of life; and between giving and receiving care. Through videos, readings and conversations, we are examining the experiences of aging in our community. Too often old age is seen as a diagnosis rather than as an opportunity for human dignity and possibilities. Beginning July 29 we will read and discuss the book A Year to Live: How to Live This Year As if It Were Your Last by Stephen Levine. You are welcome to jump in whenever you can, this is an on-going conversation. Please join us.

”Four Dharmas, Four Foundations, Four Dignities”

The first meditation practices taught by the Buddha were the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. The view of how the path unfolds is known as the Four Dharmas of Gampopa. The application of the dharma in daily life, in the current culture, is the vision of Shambhala; the stages of the warrior's path are the Four Dignities.

These teachings are beautifully aligned, and we will apply them in this four-day meditation retreat. Beginning each morning with the Four Dharmas, each day will include teachings on a dignity, and detailed instructions for the corresponding meditation: On Tiger Day we will practice Mindfulness of Body, on Lion Day Mindfulness of Life, on Garuda Day Mindfulness of Effort, and on Dragon Day Mindfulness of Mind.

This retreat is open to everyone. It is strongly recommended to attend all four days. If not possible, it is possible to attend the weekend, and for Shambhala members who can only attend parts of the retreat, it is requested to begin at the beginning.

The Shambhala Weekend Retreats are opportunities to deepen one’s practice of meditation in a powerful environment that meets the needs of someone with a busy life. Rather than having to go away, we create the meditation experience for you right here in our beautiful center. Level I: Feel Human Again is the first in a series of five weekend retreats. These retreats are taken in sequence. In Shambhala Weekend Retreat Level I: Feel Human Again we glimpse unconditional goodness as the ground of our existence through the practice of meditation. As we open to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings. Every Shambhala Weekend Retreat Level includes thorough meditation instruction, periods of meditation practice, one-on-one meetings to clarify questions, talks by senior teachers, group discussions and a concluding reception. This program is open to everyone. There are no prerequisites The cost will be $150 Program Price, or $200 Patron Price or pay what you can afford.

Sensory Awareness Session

Saturdays October 19 and November 23 at 10:00 AM

Sensory Awareness is a mindfulness practice through which we connect with our own natural intelligence and vitality; we discover what responds in us in the midst of change; and we learn to rely on our sensations as guides to the fresh terrain of each moment. When we surrender to our own natural responsiveness, we do rise up rooted like trees, ready to meet what comes. All of us face, or will face, moments of stress and difficulty in our lives. In these moments, can we return to our senses? Can we feel how we tighten or contract? Can we pause in the midst of tightness and open to the next breath and the next moment? The practice of Sensory Awareness provides tools for recognizing and living with immediacy and presence in all aspects of our lives. Classes involve a series of gentle and interesting experiments, and there are no prerequisites for these.

The Davis Shambhala Meditation Center We are affiliated with Shambhala International under the direction of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. In addition to being the recognized lineage holder in the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages, the Sakyong is also the holder of the Shambhala lineage. The Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founded the organization.

Membership

You do not need to be a member in order to attend meditation practice, receive meditation instruction, or attend classes. Membership involves a commitment to pay regular monthly dues in the amount that is right for you, and to support the center with your practice and volunteer support.
