A WORD FROM THE OLD BILL Peter Malan
Happy New Year everyone, may it be a year full of opportunities, prosperity and good health.
“A new year is like a blank book. The pen is in your hands. It is your chance to write a beautifulstory for yourself.”
2017 is the 90 Anniversary of the founding of the MOTH Order and we have an opportunity to make thisa year to remember at Dawn Patrol.
I am thrilled to report that the food and toiletries that were collected before and on the Christmas Cheerevening filled two huge supermarket trolleys and was graciously received by the 18 residents of Sunsethome in Muizenberg. Well done to all who contributed – I salute you!
I am appealing to all our MOTH and friend of the MOTH members to get involved this year and contributeto the host of activities and maintenance work parties that we intend to hold this year. We also needvolunteers to cook on our Monday Supper Club evenings – please contact me if you can help, even if it isonly for one evening.
Our Paybill Kevin Love, who has been at the finance helm for countless years, has expressed he intentionnot to make himself available for nomination in August 2017. I cannot express my gratitude for the excellentjob that he has done for the shellhole over the years, whilst also my concern to find a suitable replacement. If you are that person or know of someone who can fill this tremendously important position – Please letone of the Executive Committee member know. Kevin will gladly help and coach the incumbent to beproficient at the job.
Have a great year and come folks “Let’s give it Horns.”

EVER WONDER WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FORGET HISTORY!
A Royal Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from theUS, English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception he foundhimself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of thosecountries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French Admiralcomplained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, the English learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences ratherthan speaking French?”
Without hesitating, the British Admiral replied, “Maybe it’s because the Brits, Canadians,Aussies, South Africans and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.”

and this story fits right in with the one above…..
Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customshe took a few minutes to locate his passport in his hand luggage.
“You have been to France before, Monsieur?” The customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.
Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.”
The Englishman said, “The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.”
“Impossible. You English always have to show your passports on arrival in France!”
The English senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained,
“Well, when I came ashore at Gold Beach on D-Day to help liberate this country, I couldn’tfind a single Frenchman to show a passport to.”
