The Civil Rights Memorial at the Southern Poverty Law Center was designed by Maya Lin, designer of the Viet Nam Memorial. The memorial is engraved with the names of those who died in the civil rights movement during the time period between the Brown v. Board decision in 1954 and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in 1968 and MLK’s paraphrase of Amos 5:24 – We will not be satisfied … until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

Heading into the museum, we had to go through metal detectors. This mangled clock says why it was July 28, 1983 when a bomb went off at the SCLC headquarters, so they have strong security at that point.
