Two Goats and One Offering

Forgive and Forget

Atonement Procedure Transcribed From Video

In this is love, not that we loved YHWH, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the

atonement for our sins. (1 Joh 4:10 HBR)

We are going to finish Part three in the series that we

have scheduled to do during this Holy Day Season. I

have uncovered quite a bit of good new scriptural

information. It is a continuation from yesterday’s

presentation on Yom Kippur. I said I was going to talk

about the Azazel controversy so largely this

presentation today will be about two goats and one

offering, forgiving and forgetting and we will take a

look at the overall Atonement procedure toward the

end of this presentation.

At the end of our last study we talked about the

beginning of the Azazel controversy and how it has

permeated both Jewish and Christian thought. I call it

mythology. I haven’t gone through all the proof of

what this is all about but it is a myth in Christian and

Jewish beliefs that the second goat is Satan carrying

away our sins to be taken away and put in the bottomless pit during the thousand year

millennial period. The Azazel goat controversy is widely accepted though. It is amazing and it

dates back to my involvement in the organizations of the Churches of God way back in the 60’s

and 70’s, a long time ago. Up until about 5 or 6 years ago I bought into the concept that this

was a correct doctrine. It wasn’t until I started to look into it that I realized how incorrect and

upside down and against YHWH’s scripture that this doctrine really is.

One of the basis of this goes to Leviticus 16 that says:

And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for YHWH, and the other lot for the

scapegoat. H5799=azawzale=goat of departure. (The word scapegoat was William Tyndale’s

Page 2: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 2

translation of this Hebrew word azawzale which means goat of departure) And Aaron

shall bring the goat upon which YHWH'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. But the

goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, H5799=azawzale=goat of departure shall be

presented alive before YHWH, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a

scapegoat H5799=same into the wilderness. (Lev 16:8-10 KJV)

This scripture is important and we will come back to it because it’s important to see where the

start of this myth began and in the interpretation of this scripture.

I started by comparing the King James Version 3 which is the Literal JP Green Translation with

this same verse.

And Aaron shall give lots over the two he-goats, one lot for Jehovah, and one lot for a

complete removal. (Of interest, JP Green does not use scapegoat because that is a

contrivance of Tyndale, but he uses what I would say the correct interpretation because

it means complete removal, it’s the function of what he’s talking about not the name of

something) And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the lot of Jehovah fell and shall

make it a sin offering. And the goat on which the lot fell for a complete removal, shall be

made to stand living before Jehovah to atone by it, to send it away for a complete

removal into the wilderness. (Lev 16:8-10 KJV)

One of the other review slides that we want to look at is from a commentary that I found. It

summarizes the Apocryphal writings and association with this doctrine of the Azazel goat. It

says:

“Azazel….was probably a demonic being…Apocryphal Jewish works, composed in the last few

centuries before the Christian era, tell of angels who were lured….Into rebellion against God. In

these writings, Azazel is one of the two leaders of the rebellion. And post Talmudic documents

tell a similar story about two rebel angels, Uzza and Azzael – both variations of the name

Azazel. These mythological stories, which must have been widely known, seem to confirm

the essentially demonic character of the old biblical Azazel”. (In other words, this writer is

saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan)

(The Torah – a Modern Commentary, page 859)

Seems to confirm the essential demonic character and I’m not sure that’s a good scholarly

statement when you say something seems to be and don’t offer any real backup for it.

What a sad commentary it is that Satan has interjected himself on the most holy day of the

year. The Day of Atonement is thought to be the most Holy Day of the year because it’s about

fasting and connection. It’s about repenting of our old ways and asking YHWH to forgive us and

cover us with the atonement of Yahushua’s blood. What a sad commentary it is that I will say

Page 3: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 3

inadvertently, people that study these things and claim to be believers would fall for a doctrine

like this.

The Azazel goat is compared to the binding of Satan for 1000 years in this doctrine. The

premise goes something like this. Since the Azazel goat carries sin into the wilderness and

Satan’s apocryphal name is Azazel, therefore Azazel goat is forerunner of Satan’s binding for

1000 years. Of course that scripture is in Revelation. There is one scripture that is used for the

link to this because it says:

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a

great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the

Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit,

and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more,

till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little

season. (Rev 20:1-3 KJV)

We will come back to this because this scripture in Revelation wasn’t penned until 95 or 96 CE

in the first century by the apostle John. The question I started thinking about when I was doing

the research on this was how is something that’s not penned until the end of the first century

attached to Atonement and reconciliation to those that lived fifty or sixty years before. It

would have been during or after the time of Messiah.

Suffice it to say, our position here and our understanding is that our focus should be on the

complete work of Yahushua. There is no other work that matters.

Two Goats

The Azazel Controversy. We will start with finding the references of those that hold to Azazel

having something to do with Satan. This would be the Azazel goat in Leviticus 16.

Rabbinic Tradition – Azazel was a wilderness demon and you can find this in the Mishnah and

Talmud in a section called Yoma 6. Yoma means day so the Yoma section is all about “the day”

and it means the Day of the Fast. If you look into it you will find that there is commentary in

there and of course the Talmud and Mishnah are extra works. They are oral works and not part

of the cannon and would be considered pseudepigrapha. Yoma 6 section talks about how the

Azazel goat is led into an uninhabited area and pushed off a rocky cliff and the Azazel goat was

a personification of wickedness and impurity. That is a starting point.

One of the scriptures that we do see in Genesis 6 is associated with this overall doctrine in an

interesting and unique way. The question of this is: is this the origin of what’s called the

Nephilim? The Nephilim would be the giants that lived on the earth. There seems to be a

connection to this word Nephilim and giants. I’m not disputing that in any way.

Page 4: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 4

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and

daughters were born unto them, That the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men that

they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. (The premise here is

that the sons of Elohim were the fallen angels and the daughters of men were the

physical daughters of men with flesh and bone and blood. In other words they

cohabitated.) And YHWH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he

also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the

earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of Elohim came in unto the

daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which

were of old, men of renown. (Gen 6:1-4 KJV)

The idea is that these children that were born to the daughters of men through the

cohabitation with these demonic angels became the Nephilim. I don’t want to argue that one

way or the other, I know what the scripture says here and I know how people interpret it. I am

not saying I agree or disagree with the interpretation of this happening but there are a number

of people that want to position the Nephilim as the result of this cohabitation of angels and

daughters of men. Just know that it’s there and it’s a part of the argument that you will find

when you study into this.

Azazel was to atone for wicked deeds of Uzza and Azzael who were leaders of rebellious host in

the time of Enoch. We will actually see those writing in Enoch. I have looked them up and

found them.

And Azazel taught men to make swords and knives and shields and breastplates; and

made known to them the metals (of the earth) and the art of working them; and

bracelets and ornaments; and the use of antimony and the beautifying of the eyelids;

and all kinds of costly stones and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much

unrighteousness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray and became

corrupt in all their ways. (1Enoch 8:1-2)

Here is the pointer in this writing back to Genesis 6.

Thou seest what Azazel hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth and

revealed the eternal secrets which were (preserved) in heaven, which men were striving

to learn. (1Enoch 9:6)

The two key pointers in the writings of Enoch that have to do with Azazel are what is used as

the foundation of this Azazel goat that’s mentioned in Leviticus 16 as being a wilderness

demon. Just as a note and some information about Enoch. We have looked at it because I like

to know what’s in some of these apocryphal books. There are a couple of major sections:

Page 5: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 5

1 Enoch 1-36 = Book of Watchers – 300 BCE

1 Enoch 37-71 = Book of Parables – 100 BCE

Some fragments found with the Dead Sea Scrolls

There isn’t definitive evidence of exactly when Enoch was written and that is part of the

problem. It seems to be a corrupted book and has been messed with. Whatever the original

writings were we know that different people messed with it making it unreliable so you can’t

put your stamp of approval for it to be scriptural, at least I can’t because of some of the

corrupted parts of it that are noteworthy. Incidentally, some fragments of it were found with

the Dead Sea Scrolls dating back to 1948 when that discovery was made.

I made another discovery as I did research on this and there is an Apocryphal tradition – called

the Apocalypse of Abraham which point to this same foundation of Azazel being a demonic

character, and in fact, maybe that is the case. The problem is, and we will see that the

phonetics of the translation of the goat that is in Leviticus 16 being the one that’s sent into the

wilderness is a little different than Azazel. The apocalypse of Abraham points at Genesis 15:11

and it’s about the covenant YHWH made with Abraham. This section is just before Abraham

was put to sleep while the covenant was ratified between the pieces of flesh.

And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away. And when

the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great

darkness fell upon him. (Gen 15:11-12 KJV)

The part of this that the apocalypse of Abraham points out that the fowls came down upon the

carcasses. Perhaps you have wondered about that and I have too. I suspect that this whole

section in Genesis is pointing to the crucifixion of Yahushua and Abraham was being given a

vision of the ultimate fulfillment of the promises of Abraham through the crucifixion of Messiah

and his blood being spilled on the ground.

What the apocalypse of Abraham says:

And the unclean bird spake to me and said, “What are you doing, Abraham, on the holy

heights, where no one eats or drinks, nor is there upon them food for men? But these all

will be consumed by fire and ascend to the height, they will destroy you.” And it came to

pass when I saw the bird speaking I said this to the angel: “What is this, my master?’

And he said, “This is disgrace – this is Azazel” And he said to him, “Shame of you, Azazel

For Abraham’s portion is in heaven, and yours is on earth, for you have selected here,

(and) become enamored of the dwelling place of your blemish. Therefore the Eternal

Ruler, the Mighty One, has given you a dwelling on earth. Through you, the all evil spirit

(is) a liar, and through you wrath and trials (will be) on the generations of men who live

impiously.” (Abr 13:4-9)

Page 6: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 6

Here is another account that those that are into this doctrine might want to quote as evidence

as what the Azazel is.

Two Goats – The Azazel Controversy - The phonetics of this are of interest and the word

scapegoat that we commonly translated in the scriptures in most modern translations, not all,

some of them are like the JP Green which use the terminology of the goat that departed or goat

of departure which is accurate. The word scapegoat that we see in the King James Version is a

Hebrew word Strongs number H5799 and it really is from two separate words. One word is Aze

and the second word is awzal. The first word Aze is H5795 and the second word awzal is H235

The two words together make up H5799

Azawzale = Scapegoat H5799=from H5795 and H235 goat of departure

4 matches – Leviticus 16

H5795 = aze= a she goat

H235 = awzal = to go away, hence to disappear

The pronunciation of these combined words is aze-awzal (pronounced az-aw-zale) = goat of

departure.

This is phonetically similar but isn’t the same and its part of the confusion that people have

about this subject. It’s real easy to say that the Scapegoat is Azazel and it really isn’t, it is

Azawzale. It’s real important to understand the baseline and the two Hebrew words that make

this word up. Aze and awzale and it means goat of departure. It is referenced to its purpose.

It’s not about a personality and there is no scriptural reference to Azawzale having anything to

do with Satan. In fact, the references are wannabe’s. This is fake news at its optimum. The

Azazel reference to Satan you will see in the Apocryphal books but if you look at the real word,

the name of someone is different than the purpose of what this particular word is trying to

communicate.

There is no scriptural reference to Satan in any of this and incidentally, there is no other usage

of it in the Cannon which are the scriptures that we use and they are the sixty six books, thirty

seven Old Testament books and twenty nine New Testament books. It’s only a phonetic

similarity to Azazel in Enoch and the Apocalypse of Abraham. Don’t fall into that trap; these are

two separate distinct and different words right out of the get-go. If somebody wouldn’t have

come up with this doctrine, of course this is Satan’s doctrine. Satan wants to be included in

atoning for my and your sins. What kind of a corruption is it that Satan is involved somehow in

the atoning of our sins? It’s beyond blowing my mind that this thinking is somehow possible.

Azazel is a wilderness demon, I don’t have a problem with that and you find it in the Apocryphal

sources. Incidentally the word Apocryphus in Latin means secret, and these are the non-

canonical sources that we are talking about. There are zero scriptural matches for this word

Page 7: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 7

Azazel. There are four matches for Azawzale but no matches for Azazel. Be careful when you

pronounce this because it’s easy to slip up, they are so phonetically similar. It’s a pretty neat

trick if you think about it.

The word scapegoat is Tyndale’s contribution. He coined scapegoat, mercy seat, Passover and

Atonement. These are all his terminology and they have become integrated into our

vernacular. Of course Tyndale goes back to the 15th century and was one of the key persons

and proponents of the Protestant Reformation.

Scapegoat etymology in the dictionary is interesting and is embedded into our vernacular

today quite thoroughly. The dictionary says it’s a person or group made to bear the blame for

others or to suffer in their place. Technically that is probably a good definition. A person, in

this case it’s a goat that is made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.

Originally this goat of departure is in four occurrences in three scriptures.

And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for YHWH, and the other lot for the

scapegoat. H5799= from H5795 and H235, goat of departure (Or the goat of departure, made up of the

two words Azaw zale) (Lev 16:8 KJV)

But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, H5799= from H5795 and H235, goat of departure

(Azawzale) shall be presented alive before YHWH, to make an atonement with him, and

to let him go for a scapegoat H5799= from H5795 and H235, goat of departure (Azawzale) into the

wilderness. (Lev 16:10 KJV)

This is another slick item in the fake news report that the scripture is showing us that it’s a

function. Let him go for a departure into the wilderness, not as a name of a demonic being.

And he that let go the goat for the H5799= from H5795 and H235, goat of departure (Azawzale)

scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into

the camp. (Lev 16:26 KJV)

These are the only references that you find in the Cannon of this particular term. If you do your

homework, you will find that Leviticus 16 was given to the Israelites through Moses within the

last month or six weeks that the Israelites were at Mount Sinai. If you read through Leviticus,

you will find that two chapters before Leviticus 16 there is an offering that is mentioned. This

offering has to do with cleansing of leprosy and has some of the same characteristics using two

birds as the atonement procedure in Leviticus 16 for the atonement of the sins of Israel.

Two Goats cf. Leprosy Cleansing Ritual

Parallels 2 goat offering – for nation

Two birds

Page 8: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 8

Cleansing leprosy from the people or a person, and the last part has to do with cleansing

leprosy from a person’s home or dwelling. The procedure is the same. Birds are equal

participants.

This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the

priest: And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and,

behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper; Then shall the priest command to

take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, (Notice it’s two live birds

just as it was two live goats in Leviticus 16) and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:

And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over

running water: (Just like one of the goats was killed and sacrificed in Leviticus 16) As for

the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and

shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running

water: And he shall sprinkle upon him (The living bird) that is to be cleansed from the

leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose

into the open field. (Lev 14:2-7 KJV)

This is a stunning discovery as two chapters before, it is a similar kind of sacrifice with the

characteristics of sacrificing one of the two animals that are used, and turning the other one

loose. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Levitical system would be consistent. If you

would do this in the cleanup of a person that is leprous, the atonement process is following a

similar type of pattern. You will see patterns in the scriptures but notice the bird event, and the

leprosy event, notice there isn’t a mention of a demonic personality. It’s just turning the bird

loose and it’s the same as turning the goat loose. The free bird is dipped in the blood of the

sacrificed bird. There is a similar set of events for this kind of sacrifice.

Two Goats one offering – No damaged goods.

There are a couple of things about sacrifices and offerings that we want to get under our belt.

It is vital to understand that when offerings are made to YHWH there are no exceptions and no

damaged goods. You offer the best and the scriptures point that out. There would be no

defects; the animal has to be perfect and completely innocent. In this case both goats are

selected for a sin offering and wouldn’t you have to agree that if one was to represent Satan,

that alone would be a major defect. Functionally, this is a single sin offering. The sin offering is

comprised of the two animals just like it was with the leprosy. In the healing of leprosy, it was a

single sin offering. Here both goats are required and they are equal participants.

And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a

sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. (Lev 16:5 KJV)

Page 9: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 9

Notice the sin offering are two kid goats. The two together comprise the sin offering and there

are requirements for a sin offering. Here are a couple of places that I have found regarding this.

Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer

these unto YHWH, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto YHWH.

(Lev 22:22 KJV)

There are no damaged goods here. YHWH despises seconds he only wants the first and best.

A goat that has a demonic character to it would not fit this requirement.

Thou shalt not sacrifice unto YHWH your Elohim any bullock, or sheep H7716=sheep or goat,

wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness means H7451 bad, evil, wicked: for that is an

abomination unto YHWH your Elohim. (Deu 17:1 KJV)

You have just got to love the King James English, evilfavouredness means bad, evil, or wicked. I

guess I have to comment that these instructions here are telling us how perfect the sacrifices

must be. This was an early signal to me that the second goat, the Azawzale goat, had to be

perfect for this sin offering. It couldn’t have any defective flaws. As a side note, I would also

mention that this should be our offering. These instructions look forward and are figures of the

future and our offering of ourselves to YHWH should fall into this same category. We don’t

want any spots on our white gowns. Our presence and our attention to YHWH should be

without evilfavouredness. We should be a person of a singular vision and character, of the light

and not of the dark for that is an abomination unto YHWH. As I read these scriptures I can’t

help to think about myself. When we come before YHWH, do we come with the right attitude

or are we coming with evilfavouredness? Our personal sacrifice or representation needs to

follow these same patterns.

YHWH is the one that does the choosing also. Both goats are presented to YHWH.

And he shall take the two goats, and present them before YHWH at the door of the

tabernacle of the congregation. And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for

YHWH, and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which

YHWH'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. (Lev 16:7-9 KJV)

These goats are presented to YHWH at the entrance of the tabernacle. The goat of departure is

presented alive to YHWH.

But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat (or the Azawzale), shall be

presented alive before YHWH, to make an atonement H3722= kawfar=to cover, expiate, cancel, disannul,

forgive, pardon, purge away, make reconciliation (to make a covering) with him upon him LXX & NKJV, and

Page 10: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 10

to let him go for a (goat of departure or a) scapegoat into the wilderness.

(Lev 16:10 KJV)

This two part sacrifice, one with blood and one given to escape is part of the atonement

process. We are covered and pardoned by Yahushua. We are forgiven by Yahushua and we see

that throughout. It’s the gospel that Yahushua was crucified, died, buried and was resurrected.

He came and redeemed us with his blood. That is the gospel message and we see that

throughout the New Testament. In Ephesians 1 it says:

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the

riches of his grace. (Eph 1:7 KJV)

We are redeemed through his blood.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and

the blood of Yahushua Messiah his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1Jn 1:7 KJV)

This is the main message and why we rejoice, it’s the hope that lies within us that we are in fact

cleansed and have the opportunity to join Yahushua when he returns back to this earth and be

a part of his kingdom.

Two Goats – One Offering – Temple Purity

Another part of this is the Temple purity itself. The purification ritual that reconciles not only us

sinners but also the property, the Temple of YHWH and the goat is brought to the Temple. The

Temple is cleansed. The first order is Aaron, or the high priest was cleansed with the sacrifice

and the blood of a bullock. Then the alter and the holy place was cleansed in order to make it

ready for receiving the atonement of the sins of the people and this first goat that came to be

sacrificed in that blood.

The goat is brought to the Temple and can you imagine any way that YHWH would allow a goat

to come to the Temple that wasn’t perfect and particularly one that was identified as demonic?

There would be no way that a demonic goat or a goat representing a demon would be welcome

in the Temple. There wouldn’t be an option for covering or expiation for a sacrifice like this. It

is absolutely contrary to the Levitical system that anything unclean would be brought to the

Temple. In verse 20 of Leviticus 16 it states:

And when he hath made an end of reconciling H3722= kawfar=to cover, expiate, cancel, disannul, forgive,

pardon, purge away, make reconciliation the holy place, (it’s now pure) and the tabernacle of the

congregation (it’s pure), and the altar (it’s pure), he shall bring the live goat:

(Lev 16:20 KJV)

Page 11: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 11

Is there any way that you can imagine that a live goat that represents a demon is going to be

brought into this environment? It really defies logic and understanding - for those to have ears

to hear.

In other words, there’s no abomination of desolation allowed. We see in the scriptures how

disgusting that is in reference to the Temple. Matthew 24 says:

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation (that which is detestable and

disgusting), spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let

him understand:) (I’m not sure I totally understand all the parts and pieces of that but I

certainly understand abomination of desolation standing in the holy place) Then let

them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: (Mat 24:15-16 KJV)

I would say when somebody brings this doctrine to the table, then let him flee from that

person. I mean this is such an upside down doctrine and this scripture might have legs to it to

tell us what we ought to be doing. Let him which hears this sort of doctrine get out of the

presence of the person that is presenting something like that.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of YHWH, and that the Spirit of YHWH dwelleth in

you? If any man defile the temple of YHWH, him shall YHWH destroy; for the temple of

YHWH is holy, which temple ye are. (We are the Temple now) Let no man deceive

himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool,

that he may be wise. (1Co 3:16-18 KJV)

We want to be wise, to have understanding and knowledge, and the key word discernment.

We want to be able to discern this type of fake news.

And there shall in no wise enter into it (talking about the Temple – YHWH and Yahushua

are the Temple) any thing that defileth,(I think anything that defiles) neither whatsoever

worketh abomination (is there any way that you can say that this is not an abomination?

A goat that has a demonic name and an association and reference being brought to the

Temple to have hands laid on by the High Priest?), or maketh a lie: but they which are

written in the Lamb's book of life. (Rev 21:27 KJV)

The evidence just keeps stacking up. Saying that “Satan made me do it” is an interesting one.

People like to lean on that but Satan is not the author of sin. Sin comes through Adam.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death

passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Rom 5:12 KJV)

By one man sin entered into the world. Who would that be? That’s talking about Adam. The

original sin that Adam committed was the ultimate downfall of man and we have continued in

Page 12: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 12

that pattern ever since. It required Messiah to come so that we could have an atonement for

that and we have that now. There isn’t a co-sinner. Satan is not a co-participant in any of this.

And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the

commandments of YHWH; though he wist know it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away his iniquity not share it with Satan. (Lev 5:17 KJV)

Satan doesn’t get a position in any of this. You see how he would though, he gets to associate

himself with reconciliation and he’s the antithesis of reconciliation. Look at the word “bear”, in

Leviticus chapter 5, “yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity”. Everyone bars their own

iniquity. That is the same word we saw in Leviticus 16.

And the goat shall bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away upon him all their iniquities unto a

land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. (Lev 16:22 KJV)

Yes we bear our own iniquities and in the Old Testament the priest was able to take those

iniquities on and lay his hands on the head of the goat and transfer them to the goat. That’s

what this is about; it’s the same word – nawsaw.

Yahushua is the one that saves us from our sin, the scriptures tell us that.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Yahushua: (not Jesus, His

name is Yahushua) for he shall save his people from their sins. (Mat 1:21 KJV)

There is no other party that is involved in this, Yahushua alone. By the way, Yahushua’s name

tells us that. It means YHWH saves, or YHWH’s salvation. Jesus doesn’t mean that by the way,

the name of Jesus doesn’t mean anything. Yahushua means Yah’s salvation so his name follows

that he’s the savior and we are accountable for our own sins.

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do

that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law,

that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of YHWH

after the inward man: (Rom 7:19-22 KJV)

It’s the evil within us that causes us to sin so the devil made me do it mentality isn’t mentioned.

It’s our own nature, we make the choice, and it is our own nature that causes us to sin. Satan

does not force us to sin – we own it completely. That’s why we need a Messiah to cover us, and

that’s why we have one.

Two Goats – One Offering – Sent to Uninhabited Desert is another part of the dialogue that

proponents of the Satan theory like to use as proof that this goat has Satan’s character. Sin is

transferred to the goat of departure and we have seen that the High Priest put his hand on the

Page 13: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 13

head of the goat and transferred the sin to the goat of departure. Before that, we see in

Exodus 28 and keep in mind Exodus 28 was toward the middle part of the eleventh month stay

at Mt Sinai. Leviticus was written some few months later. So the Priest was given the

responsibility to accept Israel’s sin in Exodus 28.

And thou shalt put it golden engraved plate on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; (or

your hat) upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be. And it shall be upon Aaron's

forehead, that Aaron may bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away the iniquity of the holy

things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; (in other words, the

holy things, their most sacred acts are stained with sin is the idea of this, even what the

Israelites tried to do well was stained with sin. The holy things are what is being

referenced here so this connects that to certainly the law and commandments and so

forth) and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before

YHWH. (Exo 28:37-38 KJV)

Aaron in the beginning of Exodus 28 is given the responsibility to bear the iniquity of the sins of

the people. “Bear” is the same word nawsaw, the goat was to bear the sins of the people after

Aaron laid his hands on him. This goes back to when Aaron first had the responsibility to bear

the iniquity of the holy things and then Aaron was given the Levitical responsibility to lay hands

on this goat and pass the sins of Israel to the goat so then it would be sent into the wilderness.

The laying on of hands transfers Israel’s sins.

You find zero precedence to lay hands on Satan. It may even sound ridiculous to say that but if

the priest is laying hands on this goat that represents Satan, he would be laying hands on Satan

wouldn’t he? There isn’t precedence anywhere for that, Leviticus 16 says:

And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, (that can’t be laying

hands on Satan) and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all

their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall

send him away by the hand of a fit man (timely) into the wilderness: And the goat shall

bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited G1501=from H1504=desert, cut off or down, destroy, exclude : and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

(Lev 16:21-22 KJV)

I want to highlight “the land not inhabited”. In this scripture it means a desert, cut off or down,

destroy, exclude. This goat is sent to a land not inhabited and notice what Isaiah 53 says along

this line of who is actually going to a land uninhabited and carrying our sins. Isaiah 53 is a

forward looking prototype of Yahushua’s arrival and his crucifixion and his sacrifice for us.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; (isn’t that

amazing, we’ve all turned to our own way. The end of the Book of Judges says every

Page 14: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 14

man did what was right in his own eyes. We sure have that today, don’t we? We can’t

hardly get by a day’s worth of news, fake or not, but a day of news tells us that everyone

is going his own way.) and YHWH hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was

oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: (talking about Yahushua)

he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so

he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall

declare his generation? for he was cut off G1501=from H1504=desert, cut off or down, destroy, exclude out of

the land of the living (as the goat was): for the transgression of my people was he

stricken. (Isa 53:6-8 KJV)

We see a direct comparison of how the goat goes into an uninhabited area and how Yahushua

went into the grave to an uninhabited area.

One offering – Points to Yahushua the sacrificed goat represents Yahushua’s shed blood.

That’s easy, most people that comment on this agree with that statement. It’s the second goat

where there is a problem. Sin and guilt were transferred onto the goat of departure and sin is

completely removed from their presence when the goat leaves. The memory of sin is removed

also. The debts are forgiven and forgotten, the live goat represents sin transferring to

Yahushua. Yes, the blood is the atonement or covering for it, but the transfer to the goat of

departure means that sin will be taken away and never be remembered again.

In the New Testament there are changes, we’ve changed from a physical process to a spiritual

process and one is a shadow, the physical process is simply a shadow or type or forerunner of

the spiritual process. Yahushua is our only focus now and certainly we don’t have to be

concerned about these goats although it’s interesting to see how they point forward.

Yahushua alone carries our sins – no one else. If somebody wants to try to convince you of

this demon goat fake news, just ask them, “Who carries your sins?” Is it Yahushua that carries

your sins or it is Satan that carries your sins? I know who carries mine, it’s clear to me that

Yahushua carries my sins. Yahushua alone. Listen to this:

Who his own self bare G3999=anafero= take up, bring up, carry up, and offer up our sins in his own body on

the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye

were healed. (1Pe 2:24 KJV)

His self bears our sins, offers up, carries up, it’s a similar word to nawsaw and we actually have

a more direct comparison in the Greek called airo and we will get to that. This Greek word has

some similarity to bearing the sins just as the goat did. We see an interesting comparison in

Hebrews 9 that says:

Page 15: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 15

For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in

the end of the world hath he appeared to put away G119=cancellation, disannul, set aside, bring to

nothing sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but

after this the judgment: So Messiah was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto

them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

(Heb 9:26-28 KJV)

Messiah is to bring up, carry up or to offer up the sins of many. Offer up to who? To YHWH.

He takes care of that, he is our mediator he’s our go-between and the atonement for us. When

Yahushua comes back, he’s been here once and he’s going to appear the second time. When

he returns he comes without sin, in other words, he doesn’t come back with a list of the sins of

the people that have already repented. He doesn’t have that anymore; those have been taken

to the wilderness because they have been shed and forgotten. Yahushua did not share this

responsibility with anyone else, it is his alone. He bears the sins of many just as the azawzale,

not the Azazel, the azawzale goat, or the goat of departure.

The Atonement Procedure first of all you ask for forgiveness, and the second thing of course

that the blood is shed to cover the transgression. In the Old Testament it was the blood of an

animal. In the New Testament there is a one-time shedding of Yahushua’s blood. The third

step is the transgression is pardoned and we are forgiven.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the

riches of his grace; (Eph 1:7 KJV)

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is

no remission G859=freedom, pardon, deliverance, forgiveness, liberty. (Heb 9:22 KJV)

Our transgressions are pardoned by this process.

The two goats are a shadow figures of the true – Hebrews 9:24 of Yahushua’s Passover sacrifice. We found

figures of the true terminology in Hebrews chapter nine and see that it points to a better

sacrifice of Yahushua. The original Levitical System in Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers etc. we

see that the system was a figure of the true. It was a forward pointer of the true and better

way that Yahushua brought.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of

sins. (Mat 26:28 KJV)

This is a simple statement that says Yahushua gave himself for us, but it was not so simple on

his part, just a few words sum up the remission of sins that he has covered with his blood.

Page 16: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 16

Hebrews 8, 9, and 10 are rich with this particular topic of Atonement and the covering and

comparison to the old Levitical system.

For the law having a shadow (this is similar to figures of the true) of good things to

come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they

offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they

not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have

had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again

made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should

take away sins. (Heb 10:1-4 KJV)

The old system was repetitive and the atonement would last until the next year and then you’d

have to come back and do it again, it was repetitive year by year. For it is not possible that the

blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Take away has this connotation of departing

and that’s what the goat of departure did. The goat of departure took away the sins of the

Israelites. Obviously that has been replaced by Yahushua now as Hebrews 10 shows.

First Goat Covers the debt by the shedding of blood. Blood covered the sins of the Israelites.

The one time blood of Yahushua covers us and cancels the penalty of sin. The first goat is about

those items.

We are reconciled to YHWH, our relationship is reconciled by the process and there are several

parts to this that we will talk about. How our relationship is reconciled, and how the Israelites

were reconciled. By the way, when you see that the Israelites were reconciled by this

atonement procedure it included the sojourning Gentiles, or the other nations that were

sojourning or living with the Israelites voluntarily. Some people left Egypt that weren’t

Israelites making it a mixed multitude. Those mixed multitudes, so long as they were a part and

got circumcised and today we are circumcised of the heart, and baptized. So long as we have

done our part, our relationship with YHWH and Yahushua can be purified through Yahushua’s

blood. The first step is the debt is covered and paid for by Yahushua and then the penalty is

rescinded. We can see this in a number of places. The Book of Romans highlights this.

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification G1347=

acquittal. (Rom 4:25 KJV)

If you go to a court procedure and you are acquitted, you are made innocent. The charges are

dropped even if you are guilty. In our case, all of the sins that we have done made us guilty.

Now we are acquitted even though we are guilty. YHWH is the final arbiter through Yahushua.

Because of Yahushua’s sacrifice and also because of His great mercy we are acquitted.

Page 17: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 17

But YHWH commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Messiah

died for us. Much more then, being now justified G1344=render just or innocent (even though we

are guilty, we are made innocent) by his blood, we shall be saved G4982=delivered, protected,

preserved from wrath G3709=orgay=desire, excitement of the mind, punishment (of our sins) through him.

(Rom 5:8-9 KJV)

Our relationship is restored, and we will see that this is referencing a time of reformation or

refreshing and perfection.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, G1813=obliterate,

wipe away, pardon sin, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of Master;

And he shall send Yahushua Messiah, which before was preached unto you: Whom the

heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, (the fixing, the setting

straight of all things) which YHWH hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets Moses

included- Deu 34:10 since the world began. (Act 3:19-21 KJV)

Deuteronomy 34:10 says: And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom

YHWH knew face to face, (Deu 34:10 KJV) Can you imagine the story that Moses is going to

tell, the dialogue that we will be able to have with him? He talked face to face with YHWH

which would have been the incarnate Yahushua at that point in time. This scripture shows us

that there is no prophet since in Israel like unto Moses. He was the greatest, if not one of the

greatest. What a man he must have been yet he didn’t get to go into the Promised Land.

Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is

wellpleasing G2101=fully agreeable in his sight, through Yahushua Messiah; to whom be glory

for ever and ever. Amane. (Heb 13:21 KJV)

Be perfect in our works to do His will. Be thoughtful, considerate and compassionate, have love

in our heart and come before YHWH with humility. Micah 6:8 tells us to perform with justice,

love mercy, and walk humbly before YHWH. That’s an interesting testimony all by itself.

The Second Goat is about Forgetting the Debt. We are forgiven figuratively by the first goat

and the second goat represents forgetting it and casting it into the uninhabited places. The

second goat went away, it removed our sin. The goat of departure, or the scapegoat as Tyndale

would call it, is the goat that represents this and that goat is released into the wilderness. This

goat carries away the burden of guilt. Remember Aaron transferred from his miter through his

hands to the head of this goat to carry the burden or guilt and sin into the wilderness.

The second goat accepted the blame for the sins of the Israelites. Yahushua did that for us. It’s

certainly not Satan; it certainly isn’t a demonic force that has done that. Yahushua did it and he

Page 18: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 18

wiped the slate clean by carrying sins into the wilderness just as the second goat has. The sins

are forgotten and the memory is erased.

The goat of departure never returns, in other words the sins never return. That is why when

Yahushua comes; he comes without sin because he isn’t bringing any back that anybody sent

out through him.

I, even I, am he that blotteth H4229=erase, abolish, destroy, wipe out out thy transgressions for mine

own sake, and will not remember G2142=to mark, mention, record thy sins. (Isa 43:25 KJV)

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I

remember G3415= bear in mind, recollect no more. (Heb 8:12 KJV)

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith YHWH, I will put

my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and

iniquities will I remember G3415= same no more. (Heb 10:16-17 KJV)

Our sins are sent into the wilderness through Yahushua just as the second goat carried them

away. The parallels are stunning and it is amazing to see all of this. I’ve spent some amount of

time researching this and find there really is no excuse for us not to see that it is Yahushua that

carries our sins away. This other fake news doctrine is just an abomination in so many ways.

Forgiving and Forgetting, our sins are taken away and they are covered H5375=nawsaw.

Nawsaw is the word we saw in Leviticus 16 is also found in a few other places. We will talk

about the sins carried away and put out of sight.

And the goat shall bear H5375=nawsaw=to left, accept, carry away, forgive upon him all their iniquities Israelites unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

(Lev 16:22 KJV)

Look what’s packed inside this one scripture when we unfold it. Take a look at a Psalm of

David, and an instructive Psalm.

A Psalm of David, Maschil. H4905=instructive, IE. didactic poem. Blessed is he whose transgression is

forgiven H5375=same, whose sin is covered H3680=same. (Psa 32:1 KJV)

A didactic poem has a rhyme or meter to it but we don’t know quite what that is today. Yes we

understand that our transgressions are forgiven, David was asking for his to transgressions to

be forgiven and I’m sure they were even though Yahushua had not given his blood at this point,

but David’s sins were forgiven because he asked about it. Our sins are forgiven because we

have the blood of Yahushua. Look at the word forgiven; it happens to be the same word

nawsaw. The goat shall nawsaw upon him all their iniquities. That is what David is saying,

Page 19: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 19

Thou hast forgiven H5375=same the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered H3680=same all

their sin. Selah. (Psa 85:2 KJV)

Selah is like a musical pause signal. It happens to pause the meter of the psalm.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

(Psa 103:12 KJV)

How far is the east from the west? You notice he didn’t say north to south. If he said north and

south and you could say if you went north, you would finally get to south. If you went south

you would finally get to north. When it’s east and west, if you go east, you never get to west.

The farther east you go, you just keep going east. You can go in a linear line or even if you go in

a circle, you never get to west when you go east. You never get to east when you go west.

That’s how far, an amazing analogy, how far our transgressions are. Our sins disappear.

Who is an Elohim like unto thee, that pardoneth H5375=same iniquity, and passeth by H5674=cover, carry over, take away the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth

not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have

compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into

the depths of the sea. (Mic 7:18-19 KJV)

He’s sending it as far as the east and the west and casting it into the sea. Of interest is a

prophecy that we all know of in Ezekiel that is on this subject and has to do with the time that

Ezekiel was told to lay on his side for 390 days for the Northern tribes and forty days for the

Southern tribes.

Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it:

according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away, (same as the goat) forgive their iniquity. For I have laid

upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, (also in the

scripture we find a day for a year principle) three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou

bear H5375=same the iniquity of the house of Israel. (Now the House of Israel was largely

disbanded and had gone into captivity at this point but YHWH is telling Ezekiel to do this

ritual so that the Southern tribe will see that he is serious but it didn’t take of course.

They all went into captivity anyway. Ezekiel was taken in to captivity by this time. He

seems to have a free hand wherever he went in the Babylonian empire.) And when thou

hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear H5375=same the

iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

(Eze 4:4-6 KJV)

Page 20: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 20

This is an example of bearing the sins for someone else. Obviously, Ezekiel wasn’t bearing the

sins as a sacrificial atonement, he was following YHWH’s instructions to show how he should lie

and bear their sins. It was representative, or a ritual if you will of what YHWH wanted the

Southern tribes to know and a way for them to see Ezekiel bearing their sins figuratively or

ritually.

You see in all this that we have gone through that there is no context for Satan. No contextual

reference that we see, not even a hint or an assumption that you could make.

Forgive and Forget, the Divine Solution for Sin Only Comes Through Yahushua.

There is an interesting scripture that I want to talk about as we get towards the end of this

material. Satan is bound for a thousand years; we know that to be true in Revelation 20. This is

one of the scriptural precepts that the advocates of the Azazel goat premise quote to show that

Satan carries the sins away to the wilderness for a thousand years.

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a

great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the

Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit,

and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive (Does not say anything

about carrying the sins of the nations no more) the nations no more, till the thousand

years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

(Rev 20:1-3 KJV)

What you notice when you read this with a little bit of care is that he is bound to cut off his

influence and to stop deceiving the nations. “That he should deceive the nations no more”, or

quit influencing them. There is nothing here that talks about expiation or atonement for sin.

Only that he won’t be allowed to deceive anymore, nothing about expiation, we own our sins.

Satan didn’t make me do it.

Another part of this that is useful is Revelation chapter 20. It was written by John and certainly

there is argument on the exact year but I think 95 CE is a good representation and is probably

close to when this scripture in the Book of Revelation was revealed to John in vision. We don’t

have any reference to this binding of Satan for a thousand years in any other place, only here in

Revelation.

If man would not have had the Satan goat idea and thought it was valid, man would not have

known the fullness of the atonement for his sins until 95 CE which is ludicrous and incongruous

to comprehend because we see between 30 CE and 95 CE we see that the body of the New

Testament is written and there is no contingency upon Satan carrying sins away until we get to

this scripture in Revelation 20.

Page 21: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 21

Satan’s one thousand year disposition wasn’t known about until Revelation was written. If

Satan had anything to do with carrying sins away, nobody knew about it. This idea of waiting

for an imaginary debt payment when Satan is bound is incongruous at best. It shows

misinformed, poor theology and study on top of all that if you take an honest look at it.

Colossians has an interesting scripture using a Greek word “airo”.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened

together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of

ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took G142=airo=to lift, take up, bear

up, carry, remove, by Hebraism to expiate sin, compare H5375=shall bear it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; G4716=stowros=stake or post (poor translation, should be stake or post. Some translations say

tree. The only part of a cross that might have been there would have been a small cross

member at the top so the idea of a cross certainly is a Greek idea but that’s what the

scripture says and I’ve translated it to stake or post normally.) (Col 2:13-14 KJV)

What’s important is the blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us which

was contrary to us and nailed it to the post. This word “took it out of the way”. This word

“took it” is airo, it means to lift, to take up, bear up, carry, remove and interestingly enough if

you look up G142, you’ll see that Strongs says the same word by Hebraism means to expiate

sin. To compare it to H5375 which means shall bear. Well guess what. H5375 is that same

word we have been focusing on.

And the goat shall bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away upon him all their iniquities unto a

land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. (Lev 16:22 KJV)

When I first found this in Colossians I found it stunning. When you start looking at the

translation of what words mean and you find something like this it’s a real gem. Blotting out of

the handwriting of the ordinances, the ritual in the Levitical system that was against us, which

was contrary to us, and he took it out of the way and he bear the sins, he took them away and

nailed it to the post that he was crucified on.

This is a substitutionary sacrificial idea and I don’t think there is anything that I see that bothers

me about that terminology. In fact the substitutionary part of the sacrifice is applicable to both

goats. Yahushua’s blood is substituting the blood of the goat and Yahushua’s mercy and

forgiveness is being provided which sends our sins into the wilderness to be remembered no

more. Yahushua has substituted both of the functions of the goats and carried the sin himself

nailing it to the post.

Forgive and Forget the Divine Solution for Sin is Only through Yahushua. The work of

Yahushua provides the ultimate solution. There is no other solution; we aren’t binding Satan in

Page 22: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 22

Revelation 20 to carry any kind of sins. There is no binding of Satan that completes it. Satan

isn’t involved in any of the sacrifice, he can’t bear our sins he has to bear his own.

The Azazel demon doesn’t have any basis in scripture. Azazel originates from 1 Enoch.

One name leads to salvation.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given

among men, whereby we must be saved. (Act 4:12 KJV)

For I bear them record that they have a zeal of YHWH, but not according to knowledge.

For they being ignorant of YHWH's righteousness, and going about to establish their own

righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of YHWH. For

Messiah is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

(Rom 10:2-4 KJV)

All the prophetic purpose, all the types and shadows that point forward to Messiah, all of them

point to Him, he’s the end, he’s the point that’s aimed at. The Old Testament points to and

aims at Yahushua Messiah. The law and the prophets are all about pointing to the Messiah and

His works. The law and the prophets are not about the law. A lot of people say the law says

such and such, and they forget the word prophets. Think not that I have come to destroy the

law and the prophets; I haven’t come to destroy but to fulfill. People think well he hasn’t come

to destroy the law, but it doesn’t say that at all. It’s the law and the prophets, and in every

case the law and the prophets points to Yahushua.

Forgive and forget

Divine Solution for Sin is Completed in 30 CE, the burden of our sin was transferred through

Yahushua. Our sin was removed, assuming we ask obviously and assuming we repent and our

debt has been forgiven.

The next day John seeth Yahushua coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of

YHWH, which taketh away G142=to lift, take up, bear up, carry, remove, by Hebraism to expiate sin, compare

H5375=shall bear the sin of the world. (Joh 1:29 KJV)

Yahushua takes away the sins of the world. The Greek word airo means to lift, take up, bear up,

and also it points to H5375. Do you remember what that relates to?

And the goat shall bear H5375=nawsaw=to lift, accept, carry away upon him all their iniquities unto a

land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. (Lev 16:22 KJV)

Right here in the beginning of John shows us what Yahushua’s purpose is, and it’s to bear all the

iniquities to a land uninhabited. What is hard to understand about that?

Page 23: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 23

For he YHWH hath made him Yahushua to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be

made the righteousness of YHWH in him. (2Co 5:21 KJV)

How much more shall the blood of Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered

himself without spot to YHWH, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the

living Elohim? (Heb 9:14 KJV)

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right

hand of YHWH; (His project was complete at that point, in other words he wasn’t

waiting for Revelation 20 for Satan to be bound a thousand years. Nor were any of the

early Believers, they weren’t waiting for the completion of the project on Revelation

20:3. That’s why that’s a ludicrous idea.) From henceforth expecting till his enemies be

made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are

sanctified. (Heb 10:12-14 KJV)

He perfected it, he did it in 30 CE, there was no dependency on any kind of a future fulfillment

of a thousand years with Satan involved in this.

Forgive and Forget conclusion. The work of Yahushua provides the ultimate solution to sin –

not Satan. Satan has nothing to do with it.

YHWH’s law was written on new hearts, and sin is remembered no more. It was written and

prophesied to be so in Jeremiah chapter 31. It was repeated and copied in Hebrews chapter 8.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith

YHWH; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to

them an Elohim, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man

his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know YHWH: for all shall know me,

from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their

sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. (Heb 8:10-12 KJV from Jer 31:34)

As a side bar discussion, if you go compare what is written in the Greek text, it’s probably the

Textus Receptus in most modern translations. It’s a Greek text you will find that what is quoted

is the Septuagint Version of Jeremiah 31. You will notice if you compare the Masoretic Text

version of Jeremiah 31, it talks about Yahushua being a husband. There is no reference to that

when we take a look at what’s quoted, we see it’s the Septuagint Version which I think I can

safely say in all cases, and I have looked at this for some amount of time, I find that the

Septuagint, by any of the authors, Yahushua included, is what has been quoted in the New

Testament.

Page 24: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 24

The law has been written in our hearts and our minds and sin will be remembered no more

according to Hebrews. Satan is not involved in any scriptural sacrifice – let alone bearing any

kind of sin for mankind. Satan only has the power of death, nothing else. Scripture tell us that.

Look what it says in Hebrews 2.

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he Yahushua also himself

likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the

power of death, that is, the devil; (Heb 2:14 KJV)

The devil has the power of death; Yahushua has the power of life. The devil does not pay the

wages of sin, he does not nor cannot provide any kind of atonement, the only one that can do

that is Yahushua.

The Azazel legacy as a type of Satan you see, originates from the Book of Enoch, and the other

apocryphal sources, particularly the apocryphal Book of Abraham, and yes, those references are

there but they don’t point Yahushua and know that the Canonized Version of the Bible which

would be the 66 books have no reference to any of this idea. We have read this before but this

is a fitting conclusion.

Surely he hath borne H5375=to lift, accept, carry away our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we

did esteem him stricken, smitten of YHWH, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our

transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was

upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isa 53:4-5 KJV)

This word “borne” is the same as “shall bear” in Leviticus:

And the goat shall bear H5375=to lift, accept, carry away upon him all their iniquities unto a land

not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness. (Lev 16:22 KJV)

I wanted to be sure to mention that word one more time. This next section, if you take a look

at it on your own notice who is speaking not only in this scripture but in other scriptures we’ve

looked at, who is actually talking here? YHWH is speaking, talking about Yahushua.

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge Yahushua’s

knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he Yahushua shall bear H5445=carried (our

sorrows, it means to carry away) their iniquities. Therefore will I YHWH divide him a

portion with the great, and he Yahushua shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he

hath poured out his soul unto death: and he Yahushua was numbered with the

transgressors; and he bare H5375= to lift, accept, carry away the sin of many, and made

intercession for the transgressors interceded for the rebels-HCSB. (Isa 53:11-12 KJV)

Page 25: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 25

Who’s in the rebel group? It’s me and you, Yahushua has interceded for us. Our sins are

covered by Yahushua’s blood, they are forgiven and taken to the grave with his death and

forgotten.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away G142=airo=to lift, take up, bear up, carry, remove, by

Hebraism to expiate sin, compare H5375=shall bear our sins; and in him is no sin. (1Jn 3:5 KJV)

Guess what? He’s manifested to airo=to lift up, take away, bear and it references Leviticus

16:22. Isn’t it stunning what you find when you start looking at this subject? The clarity that

we have gotten from looking into this is a miracle from YHWH and we are grateful for these

mysteries to be shown to us and the fullness of this understanding. Thank you Father for

letting it be so.

Who carries your sins into the wilderness?

Do Your Own Homework There is a lot of homework potential in this presentation. I usually

take a highlight of some of these scriptures that I use for doing homework, but this time I want

to emphasize a little point in each of these that we see.

All scripture not pseudepigrapha is given by inspiration of YHWH, and is profitable G5674=helpful,

advantageous for doctrine G1319=instruction, learning, for reproof G1650=admonish, conviction, for correction G1882=straightening up again, for instruction G3809=education, disciplinary correction in righteousness G1343=equity of character or act, justification: (2Ti 3:16 KJV)

All scripture is not pseudepigrapha. Pseudepigrapha is apocryphal. There has been some

admonition as we go through this, admonition to change our understanding if we have had

incorrect understanding of this. I had incorrect understanding and I’m sorry to YHWH that I

ever allowed a doctrine that I had five or six years ago to come into my mind. It was poor

scholarship on my part. I repent of it and repent to have repeated it to others which I have

done over the years.

The scripture in 2 Peter is also interesting because it’s on this subject.

For we have not followed cunningly devised G4679=sofidzo=to render wise with deliberate deception, continue

plausible error=sophist fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our

Master Yahushua Messiah, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2Pe 1:16 KJV)

Sophism (Merriam Webster) – an argument apparently correct in form but actually

invalid; especially such an argument used to deceive.

We aren’t eyewitnesses but we are striving not to follow cunningly devised fables. Sofidzo

means to render wise with deliberate deception and to continue plausible error. I’m not saying

Page 26: Day of Atonement Part Three Two Goats and One Offering ... · saying that this goat of departure in fact, the name is Azazel and in fact points to Satan) (The Torah – a Modern Commentary,

Day of Atonement Part 3 26

there is deliberate deception intended on people that promote this false doctrine. Certainly

there is deliberate deception on Satan’s part because he wants people to think that he has a

part and a hand in atonement which he does not. In a sense it’s innocent and misinformed and

poor scholarship but we don’t want to follow cunningly devised fables and this has been one.

Finally in Colossians chapter 2:

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy G5385=philosophia=Jewish sophistry and vain G2756=empty deceit G539=delusion, after the tradition G3862=paradosis=Jewish traditionary law of men, after

the rudiments G4747=orderly in arrangement, proposition of the world, and not after Messiah. For in

him dwelleth all the fullness of the divine nature bodily. And ye are complete in him,

which is the head of all principality and power (Col 2:8-10 KJV)

Written by Paul ~ 50-60 CE – earlier than Revelation

Paul executed by Nero – 62 or 67 CE

This scripture jumps out because what we have is what seems to be an orderly

argument that makes sense and it’s a paradox because it makes sense on one side and it

doesn’t make very good sense on another. People have been spoiled through this

philosophia this Jewish sophism and the delusion that goes along with it. It talks about

the orderly arrangement of things in the world and the orderly arrangement of how

Enoch was presented but it doesn’t have anything to do with Messiah because only in

Messiah dwells the fullness of the divine nature.

Of note, Paul wrote this verse in Colossians somewhere between 50 and 60 CE. This is

thirty or forty years earlier than Revelation so Paul would have been misinformed if

Revelation yet was to be written and told. Paul didn’t understand about the fullness of

the doctrine of Satan carrying our sins into the bottomless pit for a thousand years. I

don’t think Paul was deceived; he had the fullness and the understanding. Yahushua

had the fullness and performed the fullness, his project was complete.

By the way Paul was executed by Nero sometime in the 62 to 67 CE timeframe so Paul

was oblivious to what was yet to be written in Revelation chapter 20.

Next time will be Atonement Part 4 and the Reconciliation through Yahushua and

Mediator of the New Contract which is Yahushua. There has been in other

presentations starting in Trumpets there is a Jubilee connection. The Jubilee connection

is obvious because the Day of Atonement is when the Jubilee Trumpet is sounded it says

in Leviticus 25: 8-10. It explains when the tenth day of the seventh month occurs sound

the trumpet of the Jubilee throughout the land. There is a definite connection to this

particular day and we will investigate that next time.

May YHWH be with you all and may his grace shine upon us and may his Spirit dwell

with us and guide us to truth, knowledge and understanding.
