Our gardening expert Sarah Hopps will beescorting a brand new handpicked selection of gardening themed tours, taking you to somevery interesting destinations including some not normally open to the public.

Lowther Castle Gardens – A Visit of DiscoveryMonday 8th June 2015 –A romantic ruined castle presiding over 130 acres of lost historic gardens in the process ofreclamation. Sited on the edge of the Lake District National Park and the Eden Valley. The castle and grounds hadbeen closed to the public for over 70 years until they became the subject of one of Europe’s largest reclamation andrestoration projects in 2011. The current gardens lie over the top of late 17th century remains, often to the samefootprint, and have survived in varying degree as wild woodland or the Victorian and Edwardian designs. There are beautifuloriginal features mixed with wild areas that house our protected endangered wildlife, that are defined on the west side by a limestoneescarpment with stunning views over the Ullswater and Haweswater hills towards the old Roman road of High Street. All protectedbehind the dramatic Smirke designed ruin of the castle. We include a guided tour along with lunch.

Martin Fish Private Garden Tour &NewbyHall GardensTuesday 25th August 2015 –A local destination today, Newby Hall's 25 acres of award-winning gardens,created in the early 1920s have evolved (and are still evolving) over the years and have made a major contribution to20th century gardening. The gardens are a haven for both specialists and amateur gardeners. Designed astride one ofEurope's longest double herbaceous borders are numerous formal 'compartmented' gardens such as the Rose garden. Novisit is complete without a visit to Newby’s Plant Centre, along with an opportunity for optional lunch in The Garden Restaurant.We later continue to Martin Fish’s private garden for a special group visit. The grounds feature astunning collection of layouts from terraced and water gardens to herbaceous borders, an orchard, lake and vegetablegarden. We also include a visit to the award winning Barton Grange Garden Centre where you have chance to explorealong with opportunity to relax and obtain lunch in one of the popular restaurants.

Ellerker House Garden &Breezy KneesWednesday 23rd September 2015 –Two often overlooked treasures are on our itinerary today, Ellerker house (atEveringham) was once the office belonging to Everingham estate, owned by the Duke of Norfolk. The Garden is 5acres and consists of parkland, home to many mature trees including Corsican Pines, Atlantic Beech and many Oaks, aformal lawn surrounded by colour themed herbaceous borders planted for textures and colour throughout the year. A Rosearchway planted with old English Roses leads towards the lake which is surrounded by a woodland pathway made from tree roots andstumps planted with many spring bulbs, Helebores and Anenomes to give a mass of colour. Opening especially for us, enjoy time toexplore this garden along with tea/coffee and fresh home baked cakes! We later continue to one of Yorkshire’s most famous GardenCentres – Langland’s at Shiptonthorpe, here, there is chance to obtain optional lunch in a choice of two café’s along with quality gardenshopping and food shop. Our afternoon visit is to Breezy Knees Gardens, 14 acres packed with over 6,000 different varieties of flowers,shrubs and trees.
