What is a one-day Tech class?

“Ham Cram”Teaches the answers to the test, not the material, per se.Six hours or so of instruction (cramming?) followed by a test session.


Why a one-day Tech class?

Easier on students.Easier on instructors.Learn by doing rather than (maybe) by lecturing.


One-Day vs. Traditional Tech Classes

Traditional classes don’t give students that much more instruction--not enough to make a real difference.Despite complaints that students don’t really learn the material, they are bound to learn something.No--or at least very few--dropouts.

Finding a Venue

Needs to accommodate the number of students that you expect.Be available from 8:30 or 9:00 am to about 6:00 pm.Chalkboard/whiteboard.


Dates and frequency dependon your situation. I holdclasses in January, May, andSeptember.The exact date depends on VE availability.Avoid dates of regularly-scheduled VE test sessions.

Tell lots of stories.Watch the time.Let students ask questions, but don’t let the questions bog you down.Breaks: 2 short breaks, 1/2 hour for lunch.
