What does a typical day in my job look like? 60-80 Minute Commute to city

Place follow-up and cold calls

Go to on-site meetings with clients that can be client needs analysis meetings, presentation meetings, or logistics meetings

Finish up follow-up paperwork, input orders, write/finish presentations.

Constant communication throughout on email and phone management and clients.

Time commitment, working conditions, level of stress, work-life balance Hours – Not necessarily a 9-5pm job. Working, prospecting,

presenting, and communications is an on-going job

Upside is being able to control your income

Salary – Starting salary is approximately $35-40K but can be as high as $200k depending on skill level and success

Definitely can be stressful, but is suited for a person that likes to meet new people, help their businesses, and “win”

Everyday is something new with new places to meet people

Cannot be afraid of rejection and objections by prospective and current clients

What does a typical day in your job look like?

Review previous day sales – top level - to plan & to LY Typical Structure: VP/GMM/Director/Buyer/Associate/Assistant

Review orders/review sales at detail level. Review what orders need to be placed daily/weekly/monthly. Closed up CNY orders.

Communication – emails – all day – have to respond within 30 minutes of receiving email

Meet with team – update on projects. Review performance Conference calls/Video conference calls Improvement process team

Time commitment, working conditions, level of stress, work-life balance, pay?

Current job – O’Hare area. 1 hour commute

Typical hours – 8-5:00. 2-3 times a week until 5:30

Work/life balance – not always found in retail. Stores are open and so are offices. Depending on role – impacts level of communication outside business hours.

Salary – Completely depends on size of company and role. Claire’s Assistant starting low 40’s. Sears Assistant starting 50’s.

Travel – current job no travel involved. Previous job, every other month – NY, LA, China

1. What subjects did you like to study in school? Foreign Language. Took French and Japanese. I always thought I would be doing something with international business.

2. Did you always know what you wanted to do, if not how did you decide? I knew I wanted to be in business and I loved math. Did not realize my career path until Junior year college.

3. Was your path into this career typical? I started at WoodfieldMall, retail at a women’s clothing store. Knew someone who knew someone – NETWORKING.

4. What is the projected job market? Always a need for buyers. Retail, Food, Industrial. Competitive. Depending on what career path you choose – you may need to re-locate. Companies continue to merge, buy out. The market is always evolving.

• Troubleshoot website issues for clinicians in hospitals all over the country

• Location – usually work in corporate office or home office, travel is minimal

• Hours – During “busy season”, typically when redesigning web pages, I work50 – 60 hours per week, 40 hours per typical work week

• Salary – Starting salary approximately $50k + bonus

Industry Options

• Web Development Firm• Everyone typically has their job, their purpose, they

bring their skill set to the table• Every client is a different scenario, but you can learn

different things from each project

• Web Developer at a company• More of a jack of all trades – you end up wearing a lot

of different hats • Working with the same product, same brands

• Freelance Web Developer• Create your own hours, but staying up to date with

scripting languages and current styles is a little moredifficult

• Harder to find clients
