Reporting To: DCU President (Part of EOLAS Group)
Role: ‘To provide advice and assistance on all aspects of Health & Safety to all Schools/Units of DCU and in doing so maintain the University in good standing in relation to H&S legislative obligations and good practice’.
DCU H&S Responsibilities to Staff (4 x Ps)
• Safe Place– Access/egress, Fire detection systems,
Housekeeping, Structures
• Safe Plant– Diagnostic Equipment, Autoclaves,
Compressed gas systems, centrifuges etc.
DCU H&S ResponsibilitiesThe 4 x Ps cont/d
• Safe Procedures– Risk assessments, Biological Agents, Sharps
handling & disposal, Manual handling etc.
• Safe People– Competent coworkers– Induction, Training, Supervision, Personal
protective equipment
Employee Responsibilities
• Not to endanger himself / others by acts / omissions
• Not to be under influence of intoxicant as to be danger to self / others
• Comply with safety procedures – wear personal protective equipment
• Not to interfere with / misuse safety eqpt• Attend training as specified by employer

–Do not run / Do not use lift
–Do not stop to collect personal belongings
–Comply with instructions of Fire Wardens / Security
–Assemble at nearest assembly point for the building
–Do not reenter until given all clear
