We are already close the end of not only term 2 but also the first half of the school year and in just two weeks students will be on their mid-year holidays. This means that in just over a week students will receive their Semester 1 reports. It is very important that parents sit with their child and read through the reports and discuss how they are progressing. A child’s grade is just one part of the report and must be taken into consideration with the comments, effort and behaviours.
It is important that parents understand what grade on a report indicates that their child is on track to meet the criteria appropriate for that year level. For students in Pre-Primary to Year 2 it is ‘Satisfactory’ and in Year 3 to Year 6 it is a ‘C’. All of this information can be found on the inside cover of your child’s report.
On some reports parents will notice that a class teacher has indicated that they would like to meet and discuss certain aspects of the report or the child’s achievement. If this is the case please make sure that you contact that teacher and make a time. However if you would like to discuss your child’s report, even if the teacher has not requested this, you are more than free to do so. Just contact the teacher concerned and make an appointment.
One of our parents (Sylvie Maiorana) is organising to have reading books sent to a school in Zambia. This is a wonderful initiative and as a school we are more than pleased to support this. There is a flyer added to this newsletter with more information. There will be a box placed out the front of the Deputy Principals’ office if you would like to donate any second hand books. The box will be collected on the last day of this term.
At our last P&C meeting, the school was very generously provided with funds to pay for ‘Reading Eggs’ and ‘Mathletics’ for students K-6 to access. This is a significant outlay by our P&C and is greatly appreciated by all staff. This means that your children can access these programs from home (and at school) for free. If you are not yet fully aware of what these programs entail please organise a time to speak to your teacher. The school will be organising a parent information session on these computer programs during Term 3.
Recently it has been noticed that there is a lot of dog poo on the open spaces surrounding the school and on our oval. Unfortunately we are limited as a school as to what we can do about this but we are looking into some alternatives. However parent and community support would be greatly appreciated. If you do walk your dog to school or on the oval outside of school times, please pick up their poo and dispose of it correctly. If you know of community members who also walk their dogs in these areas, and you have the opportunity, please pass on this message. There have been times when students have trodden on dog poo on their way to school and then entered classrooms. We would also appreciate parent assistance in getting children to clean their shoes if this occurs.

Reports The children’s Semester 1 reports will be distributed on Wednesday 29th June. Please inform the school if you need two copies of the report due to family situations. Parents are encouraged to regularly meet with the class teacher to discuss your child’s educational progress.
Arbor Day (Day of Trees) On Friday 10th June the children from Rooms 3 and 4 planted trees in the Herb Elliott Reserve as part of Arbor Day. Pictures of the event, which was organised by the City of Stirling can be see below. Well done students.
Faction Points Children continue to gain faction points for good behaviour in the classroom and in the playground. The current totals are;
Dogs at the School Gate If you are walking to school with your four legged friends, can we ask that you tie them up away from school entrances. Many of our younger students are fearful of dogs and find it quite challenging to enter the school grounds when there are 3 or 4 dogs tied up near the gates. Your assistance in this matter would be appreciated.
Times Tables Champions Room 3 was the times tables champions for Week 8. Well done.
Attendance Champions Room 1 had 99% attendance in Week 8. Keep up the good work.
Lightning Carnival There is an interschool lightning carnival next week. Please check your child’s bag for notes.
Parent Code of Conduct This will be uploaded to the schools website. Please familiarise yourself with the new updated version.
