Dear Chronicle readers, Today I want to tell you how proud I am of our community. Open Day was amazing, and a great example of how strong we are when we work together. I know many of you supported by coming along, and at one point it was hard to walk through the crowd in the MPC! There was a steady group of people coming to see all of the wonderful activities, and hearing from the teachers and students about the way they are learning together. If you didnt get to attend I would encourage you to start setting aside some time next year to join us. The music, the displays, the competitions and the other entertainment were outstanding. It was more of a celebration of what we do, and who we are. And that is one small reason of why Im proud of your part in our world. Turn to page 3 for more photos of Open Day. As I walked around College on Saturday afternoon locking doors and closing windows I was thinking about how our life is a bit like Open Day. We welcome people in, and show them a little bit of what we do and who we are. Now that we are half way through Term One Id like to encourage you again to continue to welcome people into your life here at the College. We have many new families who would appreciate getting to know some new friends, and I know we have teachers who would love some help from parents willing to just sit in the classroom and read with the children during the day. Please contact Community Relations if you can help with either of these important things, on 6923 8888 or [email protected]. Our busy term continues with parent information nights, and interview nights, and formal assemblies, and evacuation drills, and exams, and Im sure the list is endless! Next Tuesday 19 March are our Kindergarten 2020 and Year 7 2020 Information Nights. You may receive an invitation to these sessions this week. If you know someone who could be interested in enrolling next year, we would appreciate you inviting them. We are soon approaching Easter, and for me that is a time that I know I am loved not for what I do or who I am, but for who Jesus is, and what he has done for me! Dear Chronicle readers,

Today I want to tell you how proud I am of our

community. Open Day was amazing, and a great

example of how strong we are when we work

together. I know many of you supported by

coming along, and at one point it was hard to walk

through the crowd in the MPC! There was a steady

group of people coming to see all of the wonderful

activities, and hearing from the teachers and students

about the way they are learning together. If you didn’t

get to attend I would encourage you to start setting

aside some time next year to join us. The music, the

displays, the competitions and the other

entertainment were outstanding. It was more of a

celebration of what we do, and who we are. And that

is one small reason of why I’m proud of your part in

our world. Turn to page 3 for more photos of Open

Day.

As I walked around College on Saturday afternoon

locking doors and closing windows I was thinking

about how our life is a bit like Open Day. We welcome

people in, and show them a little bit of what we do

and who we are. Now that we are half way through

Term One I’d like to encourage you again to continue

to welcome people into your life here at the College.

We have many new families who would appreciate

getting to know some new friends, and I know we

have teachers who would love some help from parents willing to

just sit in the classroom and read with the children during the

day. Please contact Community Relations if you can help with

either of these important things, on 6923 8888 or

[email protected].

Our busy term continues with parent information nights, and interview

nights, and formal assemblies, and evacuation drills, and exams, and

… I’m sure the list is endless!

Next Tuesday 19 March are our Kindergarten 2020 and Year 7

2020 Information Nights. You may receive an

invitation to these sessions this week. If you

know someone who could be interested in

enrolling next year, we would appreciate you

inviting them.

We are soon approaching Easter, and for me that is a time that I know I am loved not for

what I do or who I am, but for who Jesus is, and what he has done for me!

What a celebration we had together on Saturday at the College

Open Day! Thank you for your part in the day, whether you invited

people along, visited our stall at the Marketplace, enjoyed the

sausage sizzle or were part of the audience for the wonderful

performances both inside and outside the MPC. It was wonderful

to see so many people enjoying themselves. The Cattle Team put

on a BBQ raising funds for their upcoming participation in the

Melbourne Show. Georgie Lawson guessed that there were

exactly 176 lollies in the jar at the Defence School Mentor stand.

And Ethan Staines, won the Junior School Name the Countries

competition, naming all the countries in Africa correctly – well

done Ethan and Georgie!

Most of all it was great to get together and spend time talking to

visitors and friends while having our imaginations stimulated by

the activities and displays that filled and spilled out of the MPC.

Thank you to the students, parents and staff who played an active

role in the day. We value your role in our College Community and

are privileged to be able to share it with others.

Mrs Heidi Combs, Community Relations Officer

I am one of the Stage 3 Teachers, teaching 5/6S

I love teaching and I love Christ! Showing students the wonderful world of

knowledge and learning, and how our God created it all for us to discover is

such an honour and privilege!

I am excited most to get to know the Wagga Wagga Christian College

community more, but also to take my class away to Ballarat later on in the

year (I’ve never been!).

I love taking my family on bushwalks and camping. But I also love watching

AFL (go GIANTS!), playing soccer, Star Wars, Coin Collecting and going to

the beach.

Congratulations to Jones Russel who returned from the CSSA Primary State Swimming

Carnival yesterday with 6 person best records and State Age Champion for the third

consecutive year. Fantastic efforts Jones!

(Have you been successful in your extra curricular activities? Let us know, we would

love to celebrate with you! Email your news to

[email protected])

You may have noticed a couple of ‘long-haired lads’ around school of late, but after this Wednesday, you will

notice a change. Two young men are shaving off their hair as a fundraising activity for the Leukaemia Foundation,

as part of the World’s Greatest Shave event. Dominic Ramos (Year 8) and Liam Ellis (Year 12) have registered to

raise money to support the many thousands of Australians being treated for blood cancers, and to fund vital

research that will help more people survive. Interestingly, blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer

death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma, with another 35 people being diagnosed

every day.

Congratulations boys on undertaking this commendable task! If you would like to contribute to their challenge, you

can donate through the links below.

In addition to online donations, we are offering students the opportunity to come to school on

Wednesday 13 March in mufti for a gold coin donation, with the colour theme of orange and blue,

the Leukaemia Foundation’s signature colours.

Donations will be collected at morning assembly for Middle and Senior school, and representatives will call into

Junior school classes at the

start of the day. Senior music

students will also be providing

a lunchtime concert, so why

not come along and enjoy the

atmosphere and contribute to

this worthwhile cause.

Community and Fundraising

Student Leadership Group

Coordinator

A giving heart amongst our student population has resulted

in a number of students recently donating their hair for wigs

for those in need. Eden Pappiah (Year 11) and Taya

Atkinson and Abigail Combs in Year 4 are all sporting new

look ‘bob’ haircuts after donating their long locks. The

Alopecia Association and Variety offer redistribution of hair

to be made into wigs for others who suffer from the condition

of Alopecia Areata or have lost their hair due to cancer

treatment. It is wonderful being able to share what God has

blessed us with and how we can help others in need. Well

done girls!

PS. Parents, friends and carers are welcome too – be sure to

check out their dedicated program.

For the past few weeks our Senior School students have had many opportunities to

think big and dream about their futures. Year 12 Chemistry students have been to

CSU to learn and experiment in a University environment under the tuition of an

Associate Professor in Chemistry. Year 12 Design & Technology and Industrial

Design students have attended Shape 2018, a showcase of HSC technology

projects, and explored design elements around Sydney. Year 9 & 10 students took

part in the Riverina Water and Rotary Science and Engineering Challenge, where

they explored the practical application of scientific theories. And yesterday Year 12

students were visited by CSU staff who talked about the many opportunities

available at university. If you and your family are considering university options, see

CSU’s Explore Days and Info Sessions listed below.

After a conversation with Mr Sewell, Science Coordinator, about

embracing science and his inner ‘nerd’, Kevin Ghavalas embarked

on a social experiment of sorts. For the past 5 weeks, Kevin has

been announcing the ‘Equation of the Week’ during morning

assembly. Any student who can answer correctly, or courageously,

will be awarded a Mars Bar by Mr Sewell.

Why not embrace your inner science nerd by answering this week’s physics equation:

H = mcΔT
