July 2015 Dear Deborah, This past week, I was driving back from visiting family in Arkansas and listened to NPR most of the way along I40. Here were the news highlights: The South Carolina House was debating the removal of the Confederate as one step toward addressing the hate filled murders of 9 faithful and loving people in Charleston. Later that day, they voted 94 20 for removal. Georgia NPR reported that following the Supreme Court Decision for Same Gender Marriage , the University of Georgia was now offering benefits for all married people. A Federal Court Case ruled that the Washington football team had no trademark protection citing the offensive nature of the moniker and image to most Native Americans. The Diane Rhems Show featured the issues raised by the new Texas Textbooks which lists the first cause of the Civil War as "states rights". Panelists included Isabel Wilkerson and James Loewen.
