Clara Nourdine, Emily Yaneza, Leila Mamaril and Amayah Burns
produced excellent combined performances in this event. Thank you
girls for all the time and effort you all put into training leading up to
the competition. WELL DONE !!!!!!

Student Attendance – Every Day Counts
Recently new research findings have been released in relation student attendance at school. This
research has been conducted by the Queensland Government and the University of Western
Australia.
The main findings of the research are:
School attendance patterns are established as early as Year 1.
The best predictor of a student’s attendance rate is their attendance rate the year before.
Attendance has a strong relationship with academic achievement.
Absence from school is related to academic achievement not only in the current year but in
future years as well.
Unauthorised absences produce stronger effects on achievement.
If a student has 20 days absent from school a year over the course of 10 years this equates to 1 year
of missed schooling! 40 days absent equates to 2 years of missed schooling over 10 years and so on.
Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta (CEDP) have produced an information sheet for parents
regarding compulsory school attendance which is included in this newsletter.
Thank You
As the term draws to an end I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their
dedication, the students for their hard work and the parents for their unfailing support. In particular
I thank the Parents and Friends Association for the time and effort they have put into special events
during Term 3, your enthusiasm and dedication is greatly appreciated by all at St. John Vianney’s.
During the holidays additional blinds will be installed in the multi-purpose room and a shade
structure erected in the MPR courtyard. Both projects have been funded by the P&F. Thank you!
Family Reflection:
Prayer for the Synod on the Family
4-25th October 2015
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we
contemplate the splendour of true love,
to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalised
find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching
Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful
of the sacredness of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our
Prayer. Amen
God Bless
Glenn Patchell
Principal
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
The Synod on the Family
October is going to be a big month for Catholic families as the Synod on the Family will take place in
Rome. During this Synod, bishops from all around the world will meet to discuss the challenges
facing families today. The Australian Catholic Marriage & Family Council for the Bishops
Commission for Family, Youth and Life offer the following tips for families which provide us with a
wonderful reminder that love should be taught, shared and communicated through our families.

way. It was great to see the children excitedly picking out gifts that they thought their dads would love! An
excellent profit of $620.90 was made from the stall and this money will go towards the purchase of a shade
structure for the eating area at the back of the multi purpose room. The committee would like to give a big thank
you to a wonderful group of volunteers for their time and help with the stall. It was great to see so many
volunteers on the day. Thank you to Fiona Dela Cruz, Lady Seeto, Cora Tiqui, Gabriela Interiano, Lisa
Lacson, Megan Haber, Cheryl Lualhati, Maria Macabenta, Melissa Azzopardi and Charlene Cutajar.

more chocolates could you please see the office to receive another box.

need to be handed in by Wednesday 16th September. Volunteers would be greatly appreciated to help serve hot
dogs on the day. All volunteers will meet at the canteen at 11:30am and if you can bring any big pots/saucepans,
