1. Read and annotate the book. An Annotation Rubric is attached for guidance. You will turn your annotated book in to your Language Arts teacher on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Each day after that it is considered late and a reduced grade will be given.

2. Complete the activities below. You will be given your teacher’s Turnitin.com class code on the first day of school. Your assignment must be uploaded by Wednesday of the first week! As with the annotations, a reduced grade will result if you turn it in later.

3. There will be additional assignments, assessments, or discussions assigned by individual teachers to be due at a later date. Remember these are your first few grades of the school—start off strong!

PLAGIARISIM ON ANY PART OF THE SUMMER READING WILL RESULT IN A ZERO AND POSSIBLY DETENTION. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE, SUMMARIZE, OR PARAPHRASE ONLINE SOURCES UNLESS CITED.

COPYING WORK FROM ANOTHER STUDENT WILL RESULT IN BOTH STUDENTS RECEIVING A ZERO AND POSSIBLY A DETENTION.

2019Personal Reaction Essay

In the first paragraph give an overview of the novel including a setting, summary, characters etc. Then in the second paragraph give your personal reaction to the book with textual evidence or specific references where appropriate. In other words, explain WHY you feel the way you do. In the last paragraph, evaluate by explaining why the novel should be kept on the summer reading list or why it should be removed.

Please remember this is an essay and should have an academic tone. It is fine to express your opinion, but do so in an appropriate manner. This should be between 300-500 words.
