Term 2 - Week 1 Thursday 3 May 2018 Dear Parents/Carers Welcome to the new school term! I hope you were able to share some relaxed and interesting family times over the holiday break. Our whole school ANZAC Day service was held on the last day of Term 1. This service is always an important event at every school as we continue to educate new generations about the service, sacrifices and contributions that the men and women of our various services have and continue to make to protect and improve the way of life we enjoy in Australia and where possible help the development of other countries. It was a real pleasure to have students and staff members from Sydney Tech High School join in our ceremony and their choir and trumpeter added significantly to the occasion. Our captains, prefects and some Kindergarten students also did an excellent job sharing aspects of the ANZAC story. My thanks go to Ms Flowers, Mrs Palmer and our wonderful student leaders for their coordination of the singing and ANZAC Service. Thanks to Sydney Tech for once again providing their lovely singers. During the holidays a number of Maintenance / Construction jobs were completed. All the demountables had new vinyl & carpet laid. I will continue to pursue the Department to externally paint the remaining demountables. An electrical upgrade was completed. This upgrade will allow us to install air conditioners in the bottom of Block A and Block H. Thank you to our P&C who have donated $30,000 towards the air conditioning costs. We will have the new air conditioners by October, ready for the summer heat. The Administration block was freshly painted in light colours and all the doors of the hall will be repainted this Saturday. We are in the process of installing concrete ramps into Block B and an extensive upgrade of the bathroom facilities in Block A. This will ensure easier access to the building. The school has had to manage a great deal of these maintenance costs so all the fundraising taking place this year helps immensely with our school learning programs and school environment. Five events that occur early in this term are always of importance to students, staff and parents: 1. The 3-6 Cross Country Carnival will be held next Monday 7 May. Family members are welcome to join us at Scarborough Park to support all the participants 2. The Mothers’ Day Stall was conducted yesterday. Students will still have an opportunity to purchase a special gift for their Mum; Grandma; Aunty or significant female in their lives during the week and at the Breakfast. Raffle tickets are still available for purchase from the office. Please return all of these by Wednesday 9 May. Prizes will be drawn at the Breakfast. 3. The Mothers Matter Breakfast will be conducted on Thursday 10 May from 7:30am and in preparation for making this P&C event successful, we are reminding families to purchase BBQ tickets in advance. Last orders will be accepted Friday 4 May. It will be a great morning of family fun that will allow us to celebrate all the great things our mums do for us. Please invite your extended family to join in this event which will hopefully be as popular and successful as all our Kidsmatter events last year. 4. NAPLAN (National Assessment Program in Literacy & Numeracy) commences on Tuesday 15 May and will be completed by Friday 18 May. Term 2 - Week 1 Thursday 3 May 2018

Dear Parents/Carers Welcome to the new school term!

1. The 3-6 Cross Country Carnival will be held next Monday 7 May. Family members are welcome to join us at

Scarborough Park to support all the participants

2. The Mothers’ Day Stall was conducted yesterday. Students will still have an opportunity to purchase a special gift for

their Mum; Grandma; Aunty or significant female in their lives during the week and at the Breakfast. Raffle tickets are

still available for purchase from the office. Please return all of these by Wednesday 9 May. Prizes will be drawn at the

Breakfast.

3. The Mothers Matter Breakfast will be conducted on Thursday 10 May from 7:30am and in preparation for making this

P&C event successful, we are reminding families to purchase BBQ tickets in advance. Last orders will be accepted Friday

4 May. It will be a great morning of family fun that will allow us to celebrate all the great things our mums do for us.

Please invite your extended family to join in this event which will hopefully be as popular and successful as all our

Kidsmatter events last year.

We had the unique opportunity of having a group photo taken for our centenary using a large cherry picker so that we’d all fit into the shot. I think you’ll agree that the efforts made by the photographers, students and staff resulted in a fantastic photo!

The School Development Day session held on Monday this week involved the staff in sharing ideas and resources related to embedding the 4C’s in all curriculum areas. See https://www.smh.com.au/opinion/forget-the-3rs-modern-schools-need-to-embrace-the-4cs-20170306-gurr8h.html Congratulations to all staff for their wonderful participation and input throughout the day. A special thanks and congratulations to Miss Morrison, Mrs Milner, Mrs Theo, Miss Flowers, Mrs Palmer and Miss Newman for their outstanding presentations to staff.
