Normally students would have a day at school to discuss their course selections with their teachers and complete the course selection paper on that day. Due to the current school closure, we will be implementing a different process for course selection. The current Course Catalog for the 2020-2021 school year is posted on the school website. Course Selection Process: Students will complete an online survey located in their corresponding Class of 2021, 2022, or 2023 Google Classroom. They have been using this for Daily Attendance. Students will be able to choose courses based on the Course Selection Guidelines (below). If students have any questions about credits needed for graduation they must be in contact with Steve Rivera (9 th and 11 th Grade), [email protected] or Shana Weiss (10 th Grade), [email protected]. Teacher Recommendations: Teachers will be making recommendations for students for their core classes (math, science, ELA, social studies, and Spanish). Recommendations are based on current grades, work ethic, ability to work independently, adherence to deadlines, class participation, ability to manage multiple projects and assignments, and daily attendance. If students are looking to change the level of their course, it is their responsibility to reach out to their teachers to discuss that option. Teachers will be completing a course recommendation document that will be submitted to administration. Honors and Advanced Placement courses require a teacher recommendation. Without this recommendation students will not be placed in these courses. Core Courses: All Core Courses are leveled; General Preparatory, College Preparatory, Honors and Advanced Placement. Additional information can be found in the Course Catalog for 2020-2021 school year. In order for a student to be considered for an Honors or Advanced Placement course they should have at least an 85% final grade in their current CP or Honors course, demonstrate a diligent work ethic, ability to work independently, have a proven track record with consistent daily attendance and have a required teacher recommendation. Please review the current Course Catalog for the 2020-2021 school year which is posted on the school website and in the Class of 2021, 2022, and 2023 Google Classrooms.
