I was appointed as Headteacher in September 2010 and since my appointment we have manoeuvred ourselves into the new educational landscape by converting to academy status in August of 2011. We have also cemented our close working relationship with our outstanding partners at neighbouring Sir John Lawes and St George’s schools by forming a Trust together which incorporates the University of Hertfordshire and Rothamsted Research. The three schools are working together to build the Katherine Warington school in Harpenden which will join our Trust. We are also proud to be members of the Alban Teaching School Alliance and we work closely with our neighbouring schools in St Albans and Harpenden via the St Albans and Harpenden Secondary School Headteachers group (STASSH). Full-time Member of Senior Leadership Team Salary: £53,000-59,000, with progression on a five-point scale through performance management Roundwood Park is a high achieving 11-18 school in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. The school carries an Outstanding rating from Ofsted and enjoys an excellent reputation, both locally and nationally. We have a large and expanding Sixth Form.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional leader as our Director of Operations. The specific accountabilities are set out in the job description, but the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Strong business acumen, and relentless focus on delivery

We collaborate closely across a number of education sector partnerships, and the organisational structure of the education sector is fluid, of course. The grading and remuneration package for this role reflects scope for further development in this area.

Job Title: Director of Operations

Purpose of Role: Participation in development of overall school strategic direction and planning through membership of Leadership Team

Linking the strategic plan and delivery of the support function elements. Leadership and management of all support functions. Delivery of customer-focus, rigour and robustness, cost-effectiveness, accessibility, and continuous improvement

Accountability for safeguarding in respect of recruitment, site security, health and safety, trips and educational visits

Leading on entrepreneurialism and community-focus; embracing income-generation, cost-challenge, and taking ownership of how we work with our local communities (to create value and to mitigate the impact of our footprint and operations)

Key Responsibilities:

Finance:

Development of long and short-term budgets from School Strategic Plan

Cost challenge to ensure that spend matches Best Value principles, agreed priorities and available resources; elimination of low priority/ low value spending

Analysis and presentation of financial reports to key stakeholders, including Leadership Team, Governing Body and ESFA

Providing assurance to governors and leadership team in the integrity and rigour of our financial systems and procedures, including through external auditors

Line management of Finance team to ensure integrity and accuracy of all accounting, control and reporting systems and processes and the timely production of accurate reports and returns

IT Network Management:

Deliver robust, well-controlled, fit-for-purpose IT network services, including classroom, administration and web environments, reprographics and telephony

Develop strategies and plans to ensure that IT network services continue to match the ever-changing expectations of customers (principally staff, students & parents), consistent with resources, technological change, school priorities, continuing robustness and appropriate controls (security, child protection etc)

Challenge requirements against priorities, resources, inter-operability, resource constraints and control implications

Line management of IT Network Services team to ensure effective management of systems, services, controls and development projects

Human Resources:

Delivery of effective HR services, including:

Recruitment procedures

Accountability for physical and safeguarding security of school site

Line management of Premises team to ensure efficient, responsive management of day-to-day requirements and customer requests, including:
