Academic Program Growth and Vision • Led faculty and staff in the implementation of first freshmen class in fall 2014. • Worked with faculty to develop sophomore level curriculum. • Serve on Committee for Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (CASLO) and

lead faculty and staff through HLC Accreditation preparations. Held a successful mid-cycle visit in spring 2016.

• Work with faculty and staff on General Education Task Force and the Lower Division Steering Committee in the development and implementation of an innovative lower division curriculum using cohorts and unifying themes, development of a general education curriculum that facilitates the needs of native and transfer students, development of a first year experience that includes a Smart Start program, supplemental instruction, and enrichment co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

• Work with the Dean of Students and Executive Vice President to develop a competitive and intramural athletics program.

• Work with Illinois Board of Higher Education to propose Illinois Articulation Initiative approvals and new program development at undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels.

• Serve as the university liaison to the Academic Affairs Committee of the GSU Board of Trustees.

• Work with faculty to prepare new programs to present to the Board of Trustees. • Lead Academic Affairs and Student Academic Support Services in the

implementation of GSU’s innovative and award winning Dual Degree Program (DDP) to increase community college transfer and degree completion.

• Serve on the University Global Affairs Committee; provide campus leadership to expand international student recruitment and to send GSU students abroad.

• Work with faculty and support the development of a robust Honors Program and Undergraduate Research Program.

Institutional Development

• Represent senior administration in reaccreditation of academic programs. Recently supported accreditation efforts for Art and Film (NASAD) in the College of Arts and Sciences, Health Administration (CAHME), Communication Disorders (CAA-ASHA), and Social Work (CSWE) in the College of Health and Human Services, and AACSB accreditation for Business and Economics programs in the College of Business.

• Oversee a centralized Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and professionalized OSPR services; managed revisions of GSU’s intellectual property regulations, establishment of patent guidelines, OSPR policies, and IRB and IACUC committees.

• Merged the Center for Faculty Scholarship and Teaching and the Center for Online Teaching and Learning into the Center for Active Engagement and Scholarship (2017). Support faculty development in pedagogy, research and service.

• Created the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (2017) to promote retention and provide quality academic advising for undergraduate students in a central location.

• Worked with Facilities, Budget Office, College of Health and Human Services, and Student Affairs to establish a Health Services Center on campus. Opened the Health

(AASCU) Re-imagining the First Year Initiative. • Facilitated searches for Executive Vice President, Dean of the College of Education,

Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and Associate Provost. • Collaborate with Faculty Senate President and Faculty Senate members to enhance

and improve governance structure. • Serve on the Executive Committee for Collective Bargaining negotiations. • Work with Dean of Students to implement a Center for Civic Engagement; the Civic

Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE) regional initiative of AAC&U, and the application to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Elective Community Engagement Classification

• Serve as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students in the Student Leadership Institute/Graduate Scholars Program.

Garnering External Resources and Forming Community Partnerships • Collaborate with Vice President for Institutional Development to develop a 10-year

Revenue Plan to address external funding for university initiatives. • Co-chair the Campus Community Campaign. • Work closely with OSPR and the Office of Development to identify funding sources

to support academic programs, projects, and endowed professorships and chairs. • Wrote and received Title III grant for approximately 2 million dollars. • Wrote and received several grants from foundations, such as Kresge. • Support faculty in pursuing NIH, NSF, DOE, and other federal, state, and foundation

grants. • Work with Continuing Education to develop and expand noncredit offerings and

community/business partnerships. • Worked collaboratively with senior administration on applications for 2015

ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation (awarded to GSU March 2015) and the AASCU’s Inaugural Excellence and Innovation Award (awarded to GSU October 2014).

• Serve on the GSU’s Executive Advisory Council 2013-present. • Co-Chair Honorary Degree Committee, 2013-present. • Serve on the GSU Center for Performing Arts Board of Directors and Program

Dean, College of Education and Professor (December 2008- June 2013) Dean of Graduate Studies (in conjunction with the position of Dean of the College of Education, September 2011- June 2013)

• Responsible for supervising two academic units, Education (undergraduate and

graduate) and Psychology and Counseling (undergraduate and graduate) in the College of Education. The Family Development Center (FDC) is also housed in the College of Education. The director of the FDC reports directly to the dean. In addition, the Metropolitan Institute for Leadership in Education (MILE) program is housed in the College of Education. The MILE program provides professional development services to superintendents, principals, school board members and teachers in the Chicago Southland region.

• In July 2012, the Center for Online Teaching and Learning (COTL) joined the College of Education. I supervised the faculty and staff in COTL. This unit is responsible for providing support and professional development to faculty and adjuncts across the university in Blackboard and online pedagogy and learning.

• Supervised the implementation and maintenance of university, state, and national policies in the College of Education. Worked collaboratively with the University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) faculty union in addressing faculty and staff issues. Supervised and evaluated the work of division chairs, directors, undergraduate and graduate faculty and staff in the College of Education. Reviewed faculty portfolios and made recommendations to the Provost for retention, tenure, and/or promotion.

• Implemented and supervised the approved 7.3-million-dollar college budget. Served as the dean representative on the university Planning and Budget Advisory Council (PBAC). Prepared yearly COE budget presentations for the PBAC.

• Supported faculty development through encouraging active participation in research, scholarly publications, professional organizations, conference presentations, grant writing and implementation, and service learning. Collaborated with other units, especially the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health and Human Services, to broaden and strengthen programs in the College of Education.

• Worked with the Counseling program faculty to develop and implement an Ed.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Approval was granted by HLC in June 2010. First doctoral cohort started August 2010.

• Led faculty and administrators in the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Public Administration, and the College of Health and Human Services to develop an Ed.D. in Interdisciplinary Leadership. Approval was granted by HLC in August 2012 and the first cohort started in January 2013.

• Worked closely with 66 area superintendents through the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA)-South Cook County. Serve on the Southland College Preparatory Charter High School Board of Directors.

• Wrote and/or supervised federal and state grants that are held in the College of Education. Supported faculty in the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences in securing and implementing a 7.1 million dollar Teacher Quality Partnership grant. Worked closely with the director of the Family Development Center in securing and implementing a 2.1 million dollar Early Head Start grant.

Worked closely with federal and state legislators to secure funding for the Family Development Center and Parent University/Parent Connections -$200,000 – federal and $500,000 – state.

• As Dean of Graduate Studies, worked with all master and doctoral level programs at Governors State University. Served as Chair of the Graduate Council and represented the university to the Council of Graduate Schools and the Illinois Association of Graduate Schools. Worked with the Graduate Council to develop graduate programming (academic, extracurricular, and co-curricular), review and approve graduate level programs, develop bylaws, define work titles for graduate student employees, and continue to refine the application process for graduate students. Maintained the focus of the Graduate Council to ensure consistent policies across the colleges, and ultimately to assure high standards and an outstanding experience for graduate students at Governors State University.

• Responsible for supervising three academic units, Teacher Education (undergraduate

• Worked with the library staff in order to improve library holdings relative to the department/division, and promoting the use of the library by faculty and students in the department/division.

• Worked with faculty, administration and students to rebuild the Division of Education after Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent levee breaks. All graduate courses were placed on-line in order to maintain the programs when the university reopened in January 2006. Provided training in on-line pedagogy to faculty.

• Actively engaged in recruiting new students and assisting current students in returning to the New Orleans area.

• Assisted the chair in the redesigning of academic programs and in the preparation
