Freedom Pizza Created by Carlos DeLaGarza, sixth grader at Lackland Elementary

Think about all of your favorite foods… how would you like to enjoy them all together as one feast? Freedom Pizza was first created just before Veteran’s Day 2010 at school. The idea came to me because I was hungry in class one day and was thinking of all my favorite foods combined together (pizza, spaghetti, tacos, and hamburgers). You might want to recreate this pizza for fun or for a celebration. Be creative

and bring together your own favorite foods. The preparation time for combining and creating the pizza is about 20-30 minutes. Cooking time varies on

the oven heat. Complete cooking will be 15 to 20 minutes baking at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. The steps for creating a Freedom Pizza can be done alone or with help. The order of ingredients

added to the pizza crust can be changed to suit your own preference. At the stovetop, the first step is to brown the meat in a skillet. Then add taco seasoning to meat

according to the directions on the taco seasoning packet. In a pot, boil water and add the spaghetti noodles, strain noodles when cooked. Preheat the oven for 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the pre-made pizza crust on a pan. Spread tomato sauce with spoon on top of crust. Spread the cooked and seasoned hamburger meat on the pizza. Next, add sliced pepperoni to your liking (I followed the pattern of the Target Store sign… but that was my preference). Spread mozzarella and parmesan to taste or to your liking. Cut the tomato into slices and add tomato slices on top of the cheese layer. Cut the avocado into cube shapes and add to the pizza. Crush several taco shells in your hands over the pizza creation or pulverize the shells by placing them in a Ziploc bag and beating them on a tabletop. Spread crushed taco shells on pizza. Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds all over top of pizza finishing off the freedom creation.

Place the Freedom Pizza in the oven at the specified temperature and time. Check it in 15 minutes if the cheese is melted and the crust is browning (cooking time depends on type of pizza dough). When the

pizza is cooked, add the salsa and lettuce. The entire pizza will be tasty and satisfying for any size hunger. One pizza can serve 6-8 people.

Depending on your experience with making this pizza, you might feel satisfied with the taste and process of creating something new. You can do all kinds of stuff with pizza. Perhaps you will be inspired to

make something different. I wonder what it would be like to create a pizza on a stick?

The ingredients needed to create a freedom pizza include: One premade pizza crust 12 oz package thin spaghetti Small can of tomato sauce 1 ½ lbs. of lean ground meat 1 package of pepperoni 1 package of taco shells ¼ - ½ cup parmesan cheese

¼ - ½ cup mozzarella cheese 1 package of taco seasoning 2 tomatoes 1 avocado Sesame seeds picante salsa (your choice mild or hot) ¼ package shredded lettuce

1. What are all the subjects you teach or have taught? I teach Integrated Physics and Chemistry, Chemistry and Environmental Science. 2. Where did you grow up? I grew up all over the place; born in Illinois, spent time in Kansas, north Texas, and ended up in Massachusetts until I left home for college in 1972. 3. What do you like about Texas? I love this time of year, I just got back from Thanksgiving in Santa Fe, NM and there's no place like South Texas during the winter. 4. What college did you attend? I completed my undergraduate studies in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts, did my graduate work through an extension course program of Central Michigan University when I was stationed at Andrews AFB, MD and did my post-baccalaureate teaching certification at the University of Texas San Antonio. 5. What is your favorite thing about Stacey Jr. Sr. High School? I think the students are great and I really enjoy the learning atmosphere in my classes. 6. Do you have any hobbies? I have lots of hobbies, when I'm not feeding cows and horses on my ranch I'm working on my antique/vintage cars. I only have one old one operational right now but eventually my eclectic collection of eight cars ranging from 1941 to 1967 will all run. I have Packards (one ambulance, one 4 door convertible), DeSotos (two 4 door sedans), Sunbeams (two Alpines, one Tiger) and a Nash Metropolitan. I also have a running 1973 Bultaco motorcycle. 7. What other schools have you taught at? I started my teaching career with 5th grade in the Medina Valley ISD then changed to the Hondo ISD Middle School where I taught 8th grade science. 8. Do you have a family? I've been married since January 1977 (I'll let you do the math) to my wife and we have one son who is currently stationed at Nellis AFB, NV as an A-10 aircraft mechanic. I also have to count our 5 dogs and 3 cats since they'd be upset if I didn't include them. 9. Did you always want to be a teacher? I always thought it would be neat to teach Science since my 9th grade science class. Once I retired from the Air Force in 1997, I had the opportunity to get certified and get back into a classroom. 10. How many years have you taught here at Stacey? I am in my third year here at Stacey, the first two I was only here halftime and I am really enjoying being here every day this year.

Wacky Creatures By Jorge Davila

Something to hold, and something to comfort them. With a funny face and warming heart. Mrs.Duron’s FCCLA class have all made a funny wacky creature to give to the organization of Child Safe. Child Safe is for children ages 5 and above, that have been through harsh times and experienced “bad memories”. But after all they’ve gone through Child Safe ensures that they are safe from now on, that no harm can come from them. They have everyone they need to keep them safe at Child Safe. Policemen, Lawyers, Counselors, CPS workers, and Doctors as well. Along with a giant teddy bear to comfort you, there is a big secure and locked front entrance.

After Mrs.Duron’s Family and Community Services class visited the Child Safe center, we arrived back the next time in the class room and came up with ideas. And finally our idea was, “Wacky Creatures”. All her student in her class made one, specially designed Wacky Creatures with funny and silly and different fabrics. After all the students plus Mrs. Rivera, we had a total of 13 Wacky Creatures made for Child Safe.

What are they for? Well after the children and lil ones go through all the necessary steps at Child Safe, they can chose one of the many stuffed animals or creatures to take home to reassure them that everything is going to be alright.
