    TheWaldmangroupspeak-

    ingindividually,presented

    theirviews(thirtyminutes

    each).Alargemovie screen

    wasloweredtoshowacol-

    Someofyoumayrecallseeinglittleslipsofpaperpostedonyourbulletinboards,complainingaboutanemployeeof

    WPRFnotworking.Apparentlythesedidnothavethedesired

    result,andsothecomplainergraduatedtoputtingthemessage

    onmensroomwallsatseveraloftheswimmingpools.The

    sheriffsofcewasnotied,andImhappytoreportthatthe

    individual,avillageresident,wasapprehendedandarrested.

    Hopefully,thisputsanendtosuchmischief.

    Therecentwatermainbreak,whichaffectedabout40%of

    thevillage,madeusawarethatwelacktheabilitytotransmit

    immediateinformationtoourresidentsinasuddenemergency.

    Iam intheprocessofformingan emergencycommittee to

    formulateastandardoperatingprocedureincaseofasudden

    emergency.

    OnWednesday,November4, 2009,VicePresidentDavidIsraelandIattendedaPalmBeachCountycodeenforcement

    violationhearingagainsttheWaldmans(ownersoftheGolf

    Course).Manyyearsago,apriorowneroftheGolfCourseap-

    pliedforpermissiontoopenanentrancefromHaverhillRoad.

    TheconditionsetbyPalmBeachCountywasthatafencebe

    erectedbetweenthatentranceandtheentrancefromCentury

    Village.ThatfencewasremovedbyMr.Waldman,claiming

    thatsinceitwasnolongeroperatedasagolfcourse,thefence

    wasnotneeded.

    ThehearingofcerdisagreedandgaveMr.Waldman30days

    toreplacethefenceorpayaneof$150perday.

    Wehavechangedourbylawstomakeiteasierforindividu-

    alstorun forofce inUCO.Moreprecisely,thenominating

    committeeisnowalsoasearchcommittee.AnyonewishingtoruncancontacttheUCOofceforaform.Alternately,onecan

    benominatedfromtheoorattheFebruarydelegatemeeting

    (byadelegate)andonlyonedelegateisrequiredtosecondthis

    nomination,nottenasinthepast.

    InMarchwewillbeelectinganewpresident(Iamterm

    limited),twovicepresidents,treasurer,andbotharecording

    andcorrespondingsecretary,aswellas20membersoftheex-

    ecutiveboard.Ihopethatyouwillseriouslyconsiderrunning

    foroneoftheseofces.

    Iwouldlikeallourresidentstoremembertousethecallin

    systemfortheirguests,deliverypersons,andcontractors.In

    Octoberover400entrancesweredeniedbecausetheywerenot

    calledin.Thesituationcausesangertowardourguards,who

    areonlydoingtheirduty.Theguardsworkhardtokeepusall

    safeinthevillage.

    Onbehalfofmyselfandmyfellowofcers,Idliketowish

    allourresidentsandtheirfamiliesaveryhappyandenjoyable

    Thanksgiving.PleaserememberthattheUCOofcewillbe

    closedonThanksgivingaswellasthenextday(Friday)sothat

    ourvolunteersandemployeescanenjoyalongweekend.o

    ForthoseofusluckyenoughtoattendtheCentenariansdes-

    sertbuffet,weweretreatedtoaveryspecialoccasion.Honored

    wereeightresidents,vewomenandthreemen,whohave

    reachedthismilestonewithhumorandazestforlivingand

    enjoyingthesimplepleasures.Howluckyweallaretohave

    themwithus,toremindusoftheimportantthingsinlife

    takingcareofourneighbors,friendship,andlaughter.

    GuestsattendingwereStateRep.MarkPafford,CountyAp-

    praiserGaryNikolits,andrepresentativesfromCongressmanRobertWexler,StateSenatorDavidAronberg,andMikeEd-

    monsonrepresentingStateAttorneyMichaelMcAuliffe.Also

    attendingwasHarryFreedman,CommunityRelationsOfcer

    forWalgreens.UCOwasrepresentedbyUCOPresidentGeorge

    Loewenstein;VicePresidentsFrankCornish,JerryKarpfand

    BobMarshall;UCOTreasurerDorothyTetro;RecordingSec-

    retaryBettyLapidus;andCorrespondingSecretaryAvisBlank.

    Incommemorationoftheoccasion,eachCentenarianre-

    ceivedakeyfromCommissionerKoonsofce.SusanBucher,

    theSupervisorofElections,wasalsotheretohonortheCen-

    tenarians,aswasarepresentativeofSheriffBradshaw.Anita

    Cruz,W.P.R.F.VP,offeredafewwordsofcongratulationand

    bestwishes.

    Afterabreakforsomedeliciousdesserts,entertainmentwasprovidedbytheVillageSongbirds.Alldressedupintheir

    redtopsandwhiteslacks,theypresentedastrikingonstage

    pictureandthemusicandharmonywaswonderful.Direc-

    torMartinRuderman,withpianobyMervKnecht,ledthe

    groupinavarietyofmusicalnumbers,whichwereenjoyed

    byeveryone.ToparaphraseafewlinesfromMartinsparody

    ofThanks for the Memories,Yourcaringway,throughall

    yourdaystoyouweraiseatoast.Congratulationstothe

    Centenariansseeyounextyear.o

    beencompleted.

    placeandunderutilized.Why

    orBBQ?Benches,tablesand

    chairs,aswellasBBQpits,are

    waitingtobeused.

    TheSeasonsEntertainment

    notinuse(tosaveelectricity)

    becausethecircuitbreaker

    wasnotdesignedtobeturned

    onandoffconstantly.Ifyou

    burnoutthebreaker,areplace-

    mentpartmaynolongerbe

    available.Itispossiblethat

    theentireboxwouldhaveto

    bereplaced,foranestimated

    costof$600. Asolutionwouldbetohave

    atimerinstalled;thatwill

    automaticallyshutdownthe

    waterheaterwhennotinuse.

    illegalbecausethewiresin

    bysuchheaters.Ourelectrical

    systemissupposedtodeliver

    100ampsperapartment,and

    limit.Sinceourcircuitboards

    arealmost40yearsold,and

    ourwiresarealuminum,this
