Background a. Warrior Day was created to promote camaraderie and proudly represent the spectrum of warfare designations that exist at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA). The intent of Wanior Day is to foster community and service pride and bolster the interaction between officers and midshipmen. Additionally, Wanior Day serves to recognize the Class of 2018 service assignment by offering proper instruction in the wear of community and service uniforms, while promoting a warfighting mindset focused on their future duties as junior officers. b. Designated Warrior Days are Fridays during the second semester of the academic year, 12 January 2018 to 12 May 2018. Participation in Warrior Day will entail appropriate wear of the uniform that represents the member's community or service affiliation (e.g., Navy Working Uniform (NWU)for Surface Warfare, Flight Suit for Aviation, Marine Corps Combat Utility Unif01m for United States Marine Corps, etc.). 3. 1. Purpose. Per references (a) through (e), to issue specific uniform guidance for staff and First Class Midshipmen patiicipating in any designated Warrior Day during Academic Year 2018.

2. Background

a. Warrior Day was created to promote camaraderie and proudly represent the spectrum of warfare designations that exist at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA). The intent of Wanior Day is to foster community and service pride and bolster the interaction between officers and midshipmen. 3. Action. Participation for staff includes appropriate wear of service or community uniform per existing regulations and this instruction. First Class Midshipmen will wear the uniform appropriate to their respective service or warfare community as delineated below.

a. Aviation. The regulation green CWU-27/P Nomex flight suit is authorized. Flight suits will be worn zipped up with sleeves down or with a maximum of two outward rolls if desired. All pockets must be zipped, unless being used to transport the khaki ganison cover, which will

be worn outdoors or when otherwise appropriate. Black flight boots or equivalent will be worn. Undershi11s will be NWU Type I navy blue cotton crewneck undershi11. A leather or cloth Velcro nametag shall be worn on the left chest. The appropriate command patch shall be worn on the right chest. For midshipmen, the appropriate command patch is the USNA service assignment patch. A circular patch representing an approved USNA aviation-themed patch may be worn on the right arm. For additional warmth, navy blue or black long sleeve undergaiments may be worn, to include tm1le neck variants. However, the top layer under the flight suit must be the navy blue cotton crewneck undershirt.

b. Marine Corps. The seasonal MCCU is authorized. Collar devices/rank insignia will be worn per reference (a). Marine Corps Combat Boots (MCCBs) are the only authorized footwear. Undershil1s will be olive drab green crew neck. Nametapes indicating U.S. Marine Corps will be worn above and adjacent to the left chest pocket. Nametapes with last name will be worn above and adjacent to right chest pocket. The left breast pocket of the combat utility coat will have the embroidered Marine Corps emblem. No alterations of the utility uniform worn by Navy personnel are permitted. Midshipmen who have service selected Marine Corps will wear the appropriate MCCU cover with a Marine Corps emblem and in the manner that is correct for Marines. Effective with the move to daylight savings time, sleeves will be rolled up in accordance with ref ( c) and (g).

c. Submarine. NWU Type I is authorized. NWU Type I will be worn with black plain steel toe boots, Navy blue cotton crewneck undershirt, and a khaki web belt. Insignia will be worn per reference (a). The eight-point cover or a ship/submarine blue command ball cap will be worn outdoors or when otherwise appropriate . An alternate submarine ball cap may be worn with approval of the Senior Submarine Officer in Bancroft Hall. Flame Resistant Variant (FRV) Coveralls are authorized. The FRV Coveralls will be worn in accordance with reference (b) with black plain steel toe boots, navy blue cotton crewneck undershi11, a name patch, a khaki web belt, and a gold belt buckle. An alternate submarine name patch or submarine belt buckle may be worn with the approval of the Senior Submarine Officer in Bancroft Hall. Navy blue coveralls are not authorized. As per reference (c), the Navy blue coverall is discontinued as a navy unif01m and was replaced as a dii1y work component. For additional warmth, navy blue or black long sleeve undergain1ents may be worn, to include tm1le neck variants. However, the top layer under the FRVs must be the navy blue cotton crewneck undershi11.

d. Surface Warfare. NWU Type I is authorized. NWU Type I will be worn with black plain steel toe boots, navy blue cotton crewneck undershirt, and a khaki web belt. Insignia will be worn per reference (a) . The eight-point cover or following the Surface Warfare ship selection, a ship blue command ball cap, when approved by the midshipman's Company Officer, will be worn outdoors or when otherwise appropriate. Navy blue coveralls are not authorized. As per reference (c), the navy blue coverall is discontinued as a Navy uniform and was replaced as a dirty work component. For additional warmth, navy blue or black long sleeve undergannents may be worn, to include turtle neck variants. However, the top layer under the NWUs must be the navy blue cotton crewneck undershi11.

e. EOD. NWU Type I is authorized until NWU Type III are available for all EOD midshipmen. They will be worn with black plain steel-toe boots (until issued coyote tan boots by EODGRU Central Issue Facility), navy blue (Type I) or brown (Type Ill) cotton crewneck

undershirt, and a khaki web belt. Insignia will be worn per reference (a). For additional wa1mth, navy long sleeve undergaiments may be worn, to include tmtle neck variants. However, the top layer under the NWUs must be the navy blue or green cotton crewneck undershirt.

f. SPECW AR. NWU Type I is authorized until NWU Type III are available for all SPECW AR midshipmen. They will be worn with black plain steel-toe boots, navy blue (Type I) or brown (Type III) cotton crewneck undershirt, and a khaki web belt. Insignia will be worn per reference (a). For additional warmth, navy long sleeve undergaiments may be worn, to include tmtle neck variants. However, the top layer under the NWUs must be the Navy blue or green cotton crewneck undershi1t.

g. Other Communities. Wear of the NWU Type I is authorized and worn with black plain steel toe boots, navy blue cotton crewneck undershilt, and a khaki web belt. Insignia will be worn per reference (a).

h. Foreign Nationals. Foreign National First Class Midshipmen may wear appropriate uniform of their home country.

4. Authorized Wear

a. Commandant Staff, including Battalion, and Company. Warrior day will only be worn on Fridays. Staff should be mindful that they are setting the professional standard for midshipmen. Staff members are authorized to wear the respective Warrior Day unifo1m while on the Yard and, in accordance with references (b) and (c), for sh01t-term and appropriate stops while commuting to and from home. These working unifo1ms should not be worn at events where khakis, service unifo1ms, or other more appropriate attire should be substituted.

b. Midshipmen. From 12 January 2018 until 12 May 2018, Warrior Day will be recognized all day on Fridays. Wanior Day uniforms will only be worn on the Yard. These unifo1ms are not authorized for outside foimations, nor are they authorized at any other time during the week. Should these uniforms be required for practicum events that occur on a day other than Friday, midshipmen shall change into the uniform immediately prior to the event and change back into their normally authorized unif01m upon completing the event.

5. Records Management. Records created because of this notice, regardless of media and format, must be managed per reference (e).

6. Cancellation Contingency. This notice is cancelled on 12 May 2018, at which time "Warrior Day" recognition will conclude.
