Developing and maintaining a safe workplace is no easy task. That is why local companies and the community make a combined effort to develop and maintain a safe workplace. They accomplish this by becoming involved in the Champaign County Safety Council. The program is co-sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers'

Compensation, a Division of Safety and Hygiene.

The group meets the third Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in the Urbana Champaign County Senior Citizen Center located at 701 South Walnut St. Urbana. Anyone is welcome to come to a meeting; cost is $10 for Safety Council members and $20 for non-members, and includes breakfast. The safety council identifies potential and existing problems and has speakers inform them about new techniques, products and services that are available. Twice a year, company representatives fill out a Semi-Annual report that pertains to work-related injuries/illnesses at their businesses. Companies with the best safety records are honored at an annual awards event. By reducing the frequency or severity of injuries and illnesses, companies receive a 2 percent performance bonus or a 2 percent refund of their annual premium. Thanks to all who participated in our Safety Council Program! $32,280.95 came back to local businesses in Champaign County who met the requirements and participated in the rebate program. Want to know more about our Safety Council Program? Join us at one of our meetings listed below or call Andrea at the Chamber office 653-5764.Upcoming meetings and topics: December 15, 2010, CEO MEETING!! What you should expect from your Third Party Administrator and January19, 2011, OSHA Updates.

KTH Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary KTH, the producer of complex steel auto body frame assemblies for Honda, was incorporated May 16, 1984 and began production on September 10, 1985 with 150 associates. From the humble beginnings of that team in Saint Paris, successful growth has now developed into the “KTH Group” of companies consisting of over 1600 associates at four North American sites: KTH in Saint Paris, Ohio; Kalida Manufacturing, Inc. (KMI) in Kalida, Ohio; KTH Shelburne Manufacturing (KSM) in Ontario, Canada; and KTH Leesburg Products (KLP) in Leesburg, Alabama.

One of the unique strengths of KTH is the stability of its original team of associates. Of the 184 associates hired in 1985, 80 will celebrate 25 years with the company this year. That's a pretty amazing accomplishment, especially considering how difficult initial years at start-up companies can be for everyone. The team has worked together for so long that they expertly balance the capabilities of each member, and this teamwork carries over to newer members.

Celebration activities were held in September with participation in the “St. Paris Pony Wagon Days” parade, a plant-wide lunch and a general meeting assembly to officially recognize the 25 year accomplishment, a ceremony to thank supporting businesses and community officials. All KTH associates, their families and friends,

and the public were welcomed to tour KTH. Activities during the Open House included unique robotic

demonstrations, children-friendly events, snacks, performance by the Graham High School Marching Band, many interesting facts about the 806,000 sq. ft. building and its business processes, the 7th Annual KTH Cruise-In, and sponsorship for the 2010 Champaign County Barn Quilt Tour with an unveiling of the KTH quilt.

Today, 25 years after the first sale, Dr. Dave raises up to 100,000 pounds of

fish each year. The farm now has a retail store, which opened in 1997, and features fresh trout and smoked trout fillets as well as trout spreads, other local foods, pond and water garden supplies and gifts. Guests are welcome to tour the facility, feed the trout and pet sturgeon, frogs and toads. Dr. Dave also started The Ohio Fish and Shrimp Festival, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in September, 2011. Learn more about Freshwater Farms at www.fwfarms.com.

Business After Hours
