Newsletter – December 2014 Dear Members welcome to your Christmas Newsletter. As usual Christmas has come upon us faster

goals.

Thursday 18 December from 6pm, clubgrounds.

Now combined with Obedience One Day Event.

Come along for Games Prizes BBQ And loads of fun

ALL CLUB MEMBERS, their dogs and families welcome.

By Helen Redshaw

The October/November obedience class has finished, but there was a disappointing dropout

rate amongst owners. This seems in part due to the holiday Mondays which come thick and

fast in Oct Nov and disrupt the classes. We already have 19 on the waiting list for courses

in 2015. It might be possible to run a double class again to try and work through these

numbers.

The Thursday Nights are well attended and a number of club members are pitching in to help

organize and share the load. A list of weeks and activities for 2015 is on the club room door

and we encourage all members to take their turn, share the load and bring variety to the

meets.

Sandra has a cunning plan for the final week’s session with a trophy up for grabs at a “one

day event” which she has based on equestrian format. For those of us who know nothing

about horses (me) the competition will consist of obedience, rally O and simple agility.

Thanks again to Tim and Sandra for all their time and expertise.

Well of course the main news is the Champ Show but more on that later. I have been neglecting the

LINK report for the last couple of months so here is a catch up:

LINK

October saw Blenheim 4 come 1st in their division with Sandra’s Heidi and Finn; and Fiona’s Meg

making up the team. Blenheim 1 came 5th with Tash’s Jazz and Tricot; and Steph’s Quinn in the team.

Out top Maxi dog was Sandra’s Finn coming 3rd. Top Midi dog was Tash’s Jazz coming 2nd and Tricot

close behind in 3rd.

Team results for November were not quite as successful as October with Blenheim 1 coming 9th with

Jane’s Theo, Nic’s Ninja and Tash’s Jazz and Blenheim 4 not making a team. Top Maxi dog was Finn

again in 9th, with Sandra’s Heidi top Midi in 43rd and top Mini was Jane’s Theo in 17th.

January LINK will be held on Wednesday 14th January.

Classes:

Classes have now finished for the year. A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in

teaching and set up of both the Tuesday and Wednesday night classes. Classes will resume on

Tuesday 20th and Wed 21st January.

New Equipment:

This year we have purchased a lot of new equipment including a new see-saw, new cross-over, 2 new

flexi-tunnels, new jump wings, new hoop and new timers. It was great to use the new equipment in the

show. Thank you to everyone who has been instrumental in obtaining grants, transporting equipment

and chipping and painting.

Nic and Jazz would like a new A-frame too!

Clockwise from top left: Tess, Kimi, Jasper, Maisie, Tiff/Theo/Kat?, Crystal, Jazz, Finn (centre).

The main thing this weekend will be remembered for was the tiring wind we all had to put up with! It

was so bad at times, especially in the senior ring, that jump bars were being knocked off and pegs

were necessary for the long jump, jump wings and timers. One plus was the collapsible tunnels were

removed as they were twisting so much in the wind, they were unsafe. Apart from that the show

went very well. We had great support from club members plus extra friends and family so most jobs

were covered which made it much easier for those of us competing. So, thanks again to everyone who

helped out especially in the unpleasant weather conditions. Also a big pat on the back to the

members who ran dogs and worked your butts off all weekend to make this show a success again. We

also had fantastic sponsors. All first place getters received a lovely bottle of wine donated by

Sheryl and Ed. Every placing received dog food from the generous people at ORIJEN.

Thanks also to the Nelson guys who helped us out. On Saturday Nic was running Tash’s dogs but

injured his back after a couple of runs and couldn’t move so Sheryl had to run Tash’s dogs on

Saturday and do Nic’s ring manager job on Sunday. I ended up show managing both days so Sheryl

could do this. So it was great to get the extra help from our Nelson friends.

Results:

Marcela and Toby were the most successful combo for the club this weekend. They were really on

form placing 1st in Novice 1 Maxi, 2nd in Novice 2 Maxi and 3rd in Novice 3 ending up Top Novice Dog.

They also came 3rd in Jumpers B.

Close behind would have been Shona and Oscar winning Novice 1 and 2 Small. Gilly and Peppy in their

first champ event not only had a clear run but came 3rd in Novice 1 Medium. Wendy and Crystal were

2nd in Novice 2 Small and Wendy’s Jasper also had a couple of clears. Erin and Dudley came 2nd in

Starters 1 and 4th in Jumpers B2. Karina and Tia had a clear in Jumpers C and Novice 3. Sandra and

Tess came 6th in Novice 3 and 3rd in Novice 1 Small. Sandra and Heidi came 3rd in Novice 2 Medium

and 5th in Novice 3. Sandra and Finn were 3rd in Novice 2 Maxi.

Steph ran Maisie in her first Jumpers A and was very pleased with how she went. Claire had 2 clears

with Indy in Novice and 2 clears with Gem in C. Melissa and Pepa (after not much training) managed a

clear in Novice. Jane (with no training either) went well with her dogs. Theo came 2nd in

Intermediate 1 Small and 2nd in Intermediate 3 Small. Tiff came 2nd in Intermediate 2 Small and 1st

in Intermediate 3 Small. Rose came 5th in Jumpers B1. Sheryl and Q were 4th in Senior 1.

Tash and Jazz were 3rd in Intermediate 3. Jazz was also top ADX dog. Trico came 3rd in

Intermediate 2 and 3rd in Senior 1 with Sheryl; with Tash 4th in Senior 3. Luckily Trico seems to be

on the mend after a health scare a few weeks ago.

That’s it for the shows this year. First one up next year is the very big Hanmer Holiday Show in

January where all the classes are split even Jumpers A, which is a first in the South Island (except

for Nationals).
