Mead Mayor report

z My how the year 2013 has quickly passed. Here we are only a few days from the holidays and New Years. Which reminds me that the town Christmas celebration in on Saturday, December 7. This is one of the signature events for the Town of Mead and is planned and executed by the volunteer Parks and Recreation Committee. For those of you thinking of entering the chili contest…watch out. I am planning one of my special recipes . The parade, with Santa and Mrs. Claus, is shaping up to be a great one and will end at our traditional tree lighting. Don’t miss the bon fire that immediately follows the tree lighting and is at the south end of Main Street.

z Winter in Colorado obviously brings snow and our excellent Public Works Department has prepared the equipment for clearing the white stuff from our roads. We can all give them a hand while we clear our driveways and sidewalks by placing that valuable moisture on our lawns and not in the street. If the snow is shoveled into the street it is just packed down by the cars into a dangerous ice patch that really takes a long time to melt.

z A resident of the Feather Ridge subdivision pointed out a potential deficiency on the Third Street bridge just south of WCR 34.5. Public Works understood the problem and constructed a 10 foot pedestrian guard rail and installed

it. You can see photos of this work on the town web site. This will assure a safer passage along Third Street, particularly for any children riding their bikes to school.

z Along the same lines of protecting our children on their way to and from school the Town Board voted to start construction of a sidewalk/trail from First Street to Third Street along Welker Avenue. This hopefully will shorten the distance to school and give them a safer place to travel without getting into the road bed. You may have noticed the construction of some new flag poles at the Veterans Memorial at the Mead Ponds. Thank you to a significant contribution from the Mead Rotary the Memorial will now sport flag poles so that each branch of the armed services can fly their distinct colors. A wonderful dedication ceremony was conducted for the new flag poles.

z A number of you have asked me about the progress on the town hall renovation. No, it is not moving as fast as we had hoped but by the time you read this the steel should have arrived and been partially erected. That event should usher in the capability to start the outer walls and then things should move quickly from there. Of course once the structure is enclosed there will be work going on inside that will not be visible from the street. I can tell you that your town manager, Dan Dean, and I meet weekly on site with the construction firm.

z This past November election did see a number of adjoining communities raise their tax rates, but definitely not in Mead. This now gives us the economic advantage to attract new businesses, and employment, by having the lowest sales tax rate in the area. The town has issued over 229 business licenses so far in 2013 and it does not stop there. It does give me a great pleasure to welcome a new business to our area by the name of Blue Jet who will be located in the business park. We do have several other businesses that recognize our strategic location and the we are “open for business” moto. We are in active discussions with them.

z As the year draws quickly to a close I want to wish you all a safe and joyful holiday and a Happy New Year. It has been my privilege to serve you this past year and I sincerely thank you for the opportunity. Please drive carefully, particularly when the roads are slick and watch out for the children that might think the roads are a great place to sled.

z If you have any thoughts on how we can potentially improve the town services to you, or you have any other concerns, please communicate with either me or one of your elected town trustees. We will answer your phone calls or emails. As always, particularly at this time of the year, please keep the men and women protecting our freedom in your prayers. Go Broncos and Semper Fi !

EmbroidMe in MeadOn December 1, EmbroidMe will be

closing the storefront in Longmont. This move has been planned for over a year after it became clear that many of their larger clients simply ordered over the phone. The overhead to maintain a retail storefront simply no longer made sense.

The new company is called the Rosneck Promotion Agency http://www.rosneckpromo.com and will be operated out of the owner, Mark Rosneck's home for the time being. With all the same equipment and capabilities.

Mark has also been asked to do consulting for some of his clients but has been hesitant since he had the storefront to run. This move allows him to take on promotional product consulting engagements for tradeshows and so forth.

If you have questions, please give Mark a call. Rosneck Promotions at 303. 834.0310 or email at [email protected].

Debra from pg. M118 years has a high school secretary. The school had 3200 students…which was the population of Mead at the time of their arrival in 2007.

Debra has been married to her husband David for the past thirty-nine years. Their two grown children live in California. Their daughter is a Physical Therapist and their son is a Police Offi cer with a wife and two sons. One of their many joys in life are spending time with their family and two adorable grandsons.

After the dust settled from the move, the only people Debra knew were

her in-laws. Wanting to get out of the house and meet more people, Debra started her fi rst home based business as an Avon Consultant. Many of her Avon clientele order online but Debra still enjoys offering personal service to other long-time customers from the Mead and Longmont areas. Many of them have been with her from the beginning. Over the years, Avon has changed a lot. They don’t just sell beauty products anymore but also children’s and adult clothing, fragrances, jewelry and house wares!

While working on her Avon business Debra was drawn back into the school district as a substitute for the St. Vrain school district. She serves as a clerical sub at school sites and in the district offi ce. And if that wasn’t enough she was appointed to the Planning Commission for the town of Mead in 2009. Then in 2011, she ran for Town trustee for the town of Mead and won one of the positions. She is also very active with the Mead Chamber of Commerce.

Then in January 2013, she wanted to expand her online business ventures so she started consulting for two additional companies; Thirty-One Gifts and Simply Said Designs.

These types of businesses have enabled Debra to put into practice her motto for life. She says, “I try to live life to the fullest and have learned that it doesn’t matter where you make your home….you will fi nd wonderful and caring people in your community!! You just have to reach out and get to know them!”

Thirty-One Gifts sell exclusive, on-trend, stylish and practical handbags, fashion accessories, totes, and organizing solutions with or without personalization. Their mission is to Celebrate, Encourage and Reward women. Cindy Monroe created the company to provide an opportunity for women to achieve fi nancial freedom, fi nd personal fulfi llment and realize their dreams through becoming successful business owners.

Debra loves to decorate and construct her own creations and Simply Said Designs offered everything she needed. She realized she could help others through her business. Her clients include businesses and individuals. Debra enjoys helping them feel great about what they create for themselves. You can use Simply

Said Vinyl’s on just about everything except the carpet!! Occasionally she offers design classes for those wanting to learn how to apply Simply Said Vinyl’s and take their creations home with them. Simply Said Designs also enables you to create custom treasures using your own photographs or wording. If you would like to see some Simply Said Vinyl’s then stop by Rancheros Restaurant and be sure to notice the tile sign that stands on a display by their entrance. Debra also added the Welcome sign to their door. The owner loved Simply Said so much that she also ordered vinyl for her home and for gifts.

You can fi nd all three of Debra’s home based businesses online. There you can view the catalogs and place your order. With Thirty-One and Simply Said, Debra offers Hostess parties which can be held at the Hostess’ home or wherever you choose. Debra takes care of the invitations and creates a Theme Party of her choice. This is a great way to get ladies together for a fun evening with friends! Catalog parties can also be given by a hostess as well as an Online catalog Party. Parties allow the Hostess to earn rewards and free products depending on how much she sells at her party. Individual Orders are also welcome.

Each month Thirty-One and Simply Said has Customer Specials and Hostess Specials.

The special for the month of December will be:Thirty-One – For every $35 spent November 27 –

December 20th you can get one of 5 styles (Perfect Bottle Thermal, Tote a Tablet, Perfect Pet Leash, Littles Carry-All Caddy and Every-Day Wristlet) for $5.00. Place your order by December 10th to ensure delivery before Christmas.

Simply Said - Purchase a Size B Printed Treasure (SIZES: 11” x 13” Distressed Design-A-Box or 13” x 15” Design-A-Canvas Price: $34.95 - $44.95) and get a vinyl design at Half Price!

So stop by and check out her websites 24/7 www.youravon.com/dbancroft or http://www.mysimplysaiddesigns.com/1503/ or www.mythirtyone.com/debancroft/ or call her at 970-535-0852 or email her at [email protected].
