Richie Hammel Fore on the Floor Car ShowJuly 4 w 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. w Nelson ParkCars, trucks, motorcycles, and more will fill Nelson Park for the 5th Annual Richie Hammel Fore on the Floor Car Show, which memorializes Decatur’s golf legend Richie Hammel. Highlights: Soul Purpose from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Macon County Sheriff’s Department K-9 dem-onstration, concessions, and Hickory River barbecue. All proceeds benefit the Park District’s athletic programs.

Decatur Park District ScholarshipsYouth Scholarship ProgramThe Decatur Park District recognizes that financial assistance may be required for some individuals to participate in Park District programs. The Youth Scholarship program has been established for Deca-tur residents. Eligibility is based upon family size and income level and is awarded without regard to race, color, religion, disability or national origin. For more information, call Barb Kessinger at 422-5911.

The Jerry Menz ScholarshipThe Jerry Menz Arts Scholarship provides opportuni-ties for talented youth to succeed at the highest pos-sible levels in the arts by offering scholarships for the Park District’s programs in voice, music, theatre and dance. Scholarship applications for the summer and fall are due May 5, 2015. Please contact Marie Jagger-Taylor at 421-6648 for applications and details.

Zoo Education ScholarshipsScovill Zoo’s education programs offer opportunities for animal lovers of all ages to discover the animal kingdom. Call Kathy Winter at 421-7435 for details.

Kite Day at Sinawik ParkDozens of kites will paint the sky for this annual spring tradition, sponsored by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and celebrated by park districts state-wide. Summer Teen Club (ages 12 - 14)Want to meet new friends, swim at Fairview pool, take great field trips, climb the DISC rock wall, and play soccer, volleyball and basketball? If you’re between the ages of 12 and 14, the DISC’s Summer Teen Club is just for you!

Don’t miss our fun theme days, including Harry Potter Day, Ice Cream Sundae Day, Glow-In-The-Dark Day, and Favorite Sports Team Day! Join us!

This summer, spend time with your friends at the DISC’s activity-filled camp that combines nature, art & recreation! Designed for youth aged 5 - 14, Spectacular Summer Day Camp helps you develop new skills while playing sports, taking field trips, and participating in fun activities. Ages 12 - 14 can enjoy our Summer Teen Club with new and different activities made just for them. Participants are separated into 3 groups: red (5 - 6 years old), yellow (7 - 11 years old), and blue (12 - 14 years old).

Transportation is provided free of charge to the Park District’s summer programs like junior golf, tennis, Zoo Crew, B.O.S.S., Greater Decatur Youth Band and more!

4 Create-a-Camp: Arts & Swimming

Create-a-Camp OptionCreate-a-camp by adding on your favorite Park District programs like Zoo Kids, Zoo Crew, junior golf, swim lessons, B.O.S.S., Greater Decatur Youth Band, and Summer Strings! Transportation for Summer Day Camp and Teen Club participants is provided free of charge to and from other Park District activities. Sign up to add all of your favorite programs to your camp experience. Registration is quick and easy at the DISC, 1295 W. Wood, or online at www.decatur-parks.org.

Dance & Drama CampJune 19 - July 16Take part in the Park District’s Dance & Drama Camp! Classes are available for beginners to advanced, preschool to adult. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, and theatre classes will be offered in 4-week sessions. For more information, call 421-6648.

First Gig Rock N’ Roll CampJuly 6 - 11Sound, compose, produce, and perform like a rock star! With the help of musicians with years of studio and live performance experience, students aged 10 - 18 will enjoy a week of learning and fun. Campers will be assigned to a band, led by an experienced professional. Space is limited. Swimming & Diving LessonsThe Decatur Park District offers swimming and diving lessons for ages 6 months through adult at the Fairview Family Aquatic Center! Summer StringsJune 9 - 25 & July 7 - 23If you’re looking for top-notch orchestra instruction, join the Summer Strings program! Summer Strings allows youth in grades 1 - 9 to enhance their skills and perform at special events. Instructed by Jason Zimmerman. All sessions are on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Greater Decatur Youth BandJune 10 - August 8Gary Shaw, Millikin Director of Bands, returns to direct the Greater Decatur Youth Band! This program is designed for instrumentalists who are looking for superior summer instruction and includes performances at local parks and events throughout the summer. Register by June 12.

Best of Summer Stock (B.O.S.S.)June 22 - August 2Participants will sing, dance and act as they bring a musical to life! Actors will learn teamwork, musical theatre technique, and skills in preparation for an exciting final show with sets, costumes, props and lights. Each camp is directed by our professional, experienced musical theatre staff. The program is directed by Marie Jagger-Taylor. Registration ends June 15.

Tickets for B.O.S.S. performances may be purchased starting June 29 at the Park District office (620 E. Riverside), by phone (422-5911), or online (decatur-parks.org). Cost is just $7 for reserved seats at the Civic Center Theatre. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour prior to show times.

5Create-a-Camp: Zoo, Tennis, Golf, Soccer

Zoo CampsZoo KidsHouses, homes, and habitats will be the focus of this week-long, fun-filled camp for kids aged 7 & 8. Learn the ways animal homes are very different from ours!

Zoo CampCan fish have fur? Can rabbits have feathers? Animals have unique characteristics and campers aged 9 - 10 will explore their classifications in this week-long adventure.

Zoo CrewWant to learn about all that it takes to be a zoo director? Youth aged 11 - 13 will be exploring all the different jobs at the zoo and design their own exhibit to get a feel of what it would be like to run the zoo.

Zoo SafariZoo Crew & Zoo Teens participants can conclude their summer experience at Scovill Zoo with a Zoo Safari that includes extra adventures and activities such as visits to other Central Illinois zoos and nature centers!

Junior GolfJunior Golf CampJune 2 - 4, 9 - 10:15 a.m.Get into the swing of golf with this exciting 3-day camp! Beginners focus on coordination, simple techniques and motor skills. More advanced players take their swing to the next level, with golf pros on hand to further develop each individual’s game.

LPGA Junior Girls Golf of DecaturJune 11 - July 16, 10:45 a.m. - noonGirls aged 5 - 17 will enjoy personalized instruction to enhance their golf game on Thursdays from 10:45 a.m. - noon at Hickory Point Golf Course. Beginners will learn the basics, while intermediates will focus on course play. Call 421-7444 for more information.

Decatur Golf AcademyJune 16 - July 30, 9 - 10:15 a.m.Develop your golf skills in this fun and friendly environment! Interactive classes with Decatur Park District golf pros are designed to help youth aged 5 - 17 with their form and fundamentals through focus on player development activities and life skills.

TennisTen & Under Tennis with USTAJune 9 - July 28 or June 11 - July 30Ten & Under will divide courts into segments and allow youth aged 6 - 10 to use smaller areas, smaller nets, and youth-friendly racquets.

Beginner TennisJune 8 - July 29This class is designed for players aged 11 - 12 and meets twice a week for 1 hour. Learn a new sport and make great new friends!

Teen TennisJune 9 - July 30Teens (aged 13 - 18) can improve their tennis skills twice a week.

Watch out for the snapping alligator, the mischievous red panda, and the crazy goat that keeps eating the turf! If you’ve always wanted to play 36 holes of mini golf with the animals from Scovill Zoo, they are ready to make your day a fun, challenging adventure! Disc Golf in Nelson ParkLooking for an exciting, active sport? Try disc golf at Nelson Park! This popular activity is enjoyed by people of all ages and is played much like traditional golf, but instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc or Frisbee. Discs can be rented at Overlook Adventure Mini Golf. For more information about the Nelson Park disc golf course, distances, and a scorecard, visit decatur-parks.org.

Park District PartiesCreative Arts Party Your 2-hour party at the Poage Arts & Recreation Center will include themed activities, crafts, games, and costumes. Call Jen Theis at 421-6648 for more information!

Sports/Bounce House Party at the DISCYour guests can play on an inflatable bounce house, climb the rock wall, use the batting cage, and play basketball, volleyball, and soccer! Add the Party Room for an additional minimal cost. Call the DISC at 429-3472 today!
