Thank you for your support!

We Care about Your SafetyThe Decatur Park District cares about the safety of our visitors and strives to ensure that playground equipment, park grounds, and facilities remain in excellent condition. Please help us in this effort! Follow posted safety rules and note age designations for appropriate use of playground equipment.

InsuranceWhile the Park District is committed to conducting recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, an inherent risk of injury exists with any recreational activity. The Decatur Park District does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained on its property or in its programs, as the cost of such insurance would make program fees cost-prohibitive.

ADA Accessibility SurveyTo ensure that the Park District complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, in Spring 2012, we began a survey process conducted by Recreation Accessibility Consultants. Fifty-six parks and facilities were reviewed, and results have been compiled in a 6-volume document that is available at the Administrative Office, 620 E. Riverside Ave. For more information, contact Mandy Childress at 422-5911.

Park Watch ProgramIn response to an ongoing problem with vandalism, the Decatur Park District developed the Park Watch program to help prevent crimes in our parks, properties and facilities. Park Watch offers rewards for information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for these crimes. Please be on the look-out. Park District property belongs to all in our community and is supported by tax dollars. If you witness suspicious activity or have a tip, call Park Watch at 422-5911. You may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000. All tips and information are helpful, and you may remain anonymous. Overlook Adventure Mini GolfJuly 12 marked the successful “soft opening” of Over-look Adventure Mini Golf! In the first week, 5,111 rounds were played, generating $31,233.25 in gross rev-enue! Special thanks to GSI Group, LLC (Assumption) for their generous donation of 2 grain bins. One has become a very popular “GSI Party Bin” for group events while the other is being used for equipment storage. Opportunities remain for individuals and companies, including sponsorship of a course, leagues, or special events. Call the Foundation at 422-5911 to discuss your interest in Overlook Adventure Mini Golf or any por-tion of the Lakeshore Landing project.

Online Giving Available! Please contribute to Decatur’s quality of life with a gift to the Decatur Parks Foundation! Donations to the Foundation, Scovill Zoo, Jerry Menz Arts Scholarship, special recreation, junior golf, and more may be made online at www.decatur-parks.org.

Fun for All ScholarshipsChildren grow, learn, and benefit from the arts, recre-ation and play! The Decatur Park District recognizes that financial assistance may be required for some in-dividuals to participate in activities and programs. The Fun for All Scholarship Program makes funds available for students in need. In 2013, 42 children were able to participate in arts activities, baseball, and soccer thanks to this program. Eligibility is based upon family size and income, and scholarships are awarded without re-gard to race, color, religion, age, disability, or national origin. For more information, call the Decatur Parks Foundation at 422-5911.

Schaub Floral Display CenterSportsman’s Park v 421-7550 Hours: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Daily

Starting in September, mums, Gerber daisies, rudbeckia, and ptilotus will make their appearance during the Schaub Floral Display Center’s Fall Show. Rustic pines and colorful poinsettias will fill the center during the holidays. Seasonal displays are one of many attractions at the Floral Display Center and Greenhouse, made possible through grants and gifts from the Lindsay-Schaub newspapers and Robert D. Schaub. Thanks to another generous gift from the Schaub family in 2014, the Park District began construction on the Norma Schaub Memorial Garden just north of the Floral Display building. The goal is to make the center a destination, both inside and out, with shade trees, native grasses, annual and perennial flowers, benches, and a water feature. The Norma Schaub Memorial Garden will be a perfect spot to take pictures for special events and hold small weddings.

Living Tribute Tree ProgramHonor a loved one or commemorate a special event by having a tree planted in a Decatur park! With your $500 donation, the Park District will plant and care for your tree. In addition, you will receive a map highlighting the tree’s location. This natural gift will beautify Decatur’s parks for the entire community to enjoy.
