A MESSAGE FROM OUR

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Board of Directors: Back row (l to r): Tansy Pauls, Suzanne Linnell, Charles Massey, Neil HaversFront row (l to r): Heather McFetridge, Wayne Anderson, Gail Limber. Not pictured: Darryl Calnan and Marty Douglas.

Board of Directors, Sid Williams Theatre Society

As we head into the Christmas season, we on the board of the Sid Williams Theatre Society want to remind you that the gift of entertainment beats a new tie or a pair of gloves every time! Become a member of our society and stuff those Christmas stockings with one of our “4 OR MORE” discount show packages. Then let our Winter and Spring lineup put you and your family in the proper Christmas spirit.

Speaking of spirits, as the namesake of Sid Williams,

we are pretty confident that Sid’s spirit will be clicking its heels when we start our 2015 programming with a Vaudeville show in the grand tradition of Theatre Royale in Barkerville, where so many characters created by the man himself came to life.

2015 marks the City of Courtenay’s 100th anniversary, so the chief aim of our 2015 season will be to host a year long party for our city. We’re going to do that by taking advantage of the new relationships we have

nurtured over the past year. In January, we will be partnering with Vancouver Island Musicfest and Discover Comox Valley on two headline events in the WinterJAM100 concert lineup. Then, throughout 2015, the Sid will be collaborating with the Courtenay Museum and Comox Valley Art Gallery to showcase the role that culture has played in building our community.

We think things have never looked better at the Sid Williams Theatre so “Come and See”!

WHAT IS THE BLUE CIRCLE SERIES?

As a community arts organization, the Sid Williams Theatre Society strives to enrich the Comox Valley’s cultural activities. Each year between September and June, we proudly present a diverse season of professional performing artists.

Presenting a performance means we have carefully selected and contracted the artists to appear locally, unlike commercial or community user groups who select available dates to rent the theatre for their shows.

Blue is the colour of inspiration. The circle celebrates inclusion. It symbolizes our eyes and opening awareness. It represents the infinite nature of energy. It symbolizes the cycles of time, the movements of seasons. The circle is sacred to many cultures, and beckons the viewer to be drawn in, like a spotlight on our stage.

BLUE CIRCLE SERIES MEMBER 4 OR MORE PACKA multi-performance discount price on the purchase of 4 OR MORE. Members can purchase a ticket to 4 OR MORE different shows and receive a special price on each show - build your own ticket package!

WINTER HARPDECEMBER 11, 2014 7:30 PM

“Magical.., enchanting, ...mesmerizing,” these are words that describe Winter Harp, an acclaimed ensemble of harps, flutes, medieval instruments, percussion, poetry and song.

Join this Yuletide ensemble as it whisks you to a far-off land of moonlight, castles and snow. It’s like being in an ethereal medieval dream of hauntingly beautiful, yet as cozy and warm as Christmas. Gorgeous medieval attire and a stage set with candles and breathtakingly beautiful backdrops of cathedral and snow add to the beauty of this unique show.

Carols, both familiar and ancient, will set your heart singing as you journey with the musicians to Christmases of long ago.

Here they will be at the forefront as showcased on their new release

Sid Williams Theatre Society | Winter 2015 Performance Guide 27

WHY FUNDRAISE?The Sid Williams Theatre Society is a registered charitable organization with a mandate to stimulate and enhance artistic, cultural, and recreation activities in the Comox Valley and surrounding regions through its operations of the Sid Williams Theatre.

Our fundraising activities support everything from technical equipment purchases to high school bursaries, to our Superstar program which allows us to provide free tickets to individuals, families, and youth who otherwise would not have access to cultural events at the theatre.

WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR MANDATE

Purchase ticketsAttending events at the theatre is a win-win! You get to see an incredible performance, and your ticket handling fees help cover the costs of operational infrastructure like our electronic ticketing system.

Become a memberA large membership base is critically important to our success in receiving various arts and culture grants.

Donate to the SocietyWhether it's a one time contribution or regular installments, donations can be made in any amount and applied to an area of the donor's choice. Areas include ongoing capital improvements to the theatre building and equipment; a bursary fund that provides educational opportunities for local youth; the Superstar program that provides free theatre tickets to low income individuals, families, and youth who would not otherwise have access to cultural events; and an endowment fund that provides for the society's long term operations.

Buy a raffle ticket Lots of great prizes in our annual raffle! See page 25 of this guide for more details.

Sid Williams Theatre Society | Winter 2015 Performance Guide 33

In the spirit of “Skattered Skits” and Barkerville’s Theatre Royale, the Sid Williams Theatre Society will usher in 2015 with a special production to celebrate the City of Courtenay’s 100th birthday, Sid’s Vaudeville Follies.

Hop in the time machine with us and enjoy a true live variety performance in the spirit of old time Vaudeville. The song and dance man, the circus act, the card shark, the chorus line dancers, the comedian, and so much more. This true to form reproduction of an old time Vaudeville show will take you back to the awe and laughter of a historical era of show business.

Hosted by the one and only Kenny Shaw, the show features songsters, hoofers, jokesters and corny characters that Sid himself would be proud of!

Sid's Vaudeville Follies, come one , come all! This here’s a must see!
