Advent is a time to increase our own self- knowledge as those who continue Jesus’ saving ministry. Just as Jesus pointed to his good works to reveal his identity as the Messiah, so must we live so that our own good works witness to who we are: those baptized into Christ’s saving mystery and who share in his identity. We are the Body of Christ. Like Jesus, we are to reach out to those blinded by their own selfishness, lamed by their own indifference, diseased by their own callous- ness, deafened by their own conceit, deadened by their own selfishness. To be humble as was John the Baptist, we must always remember that it is not what we do, but what Christ accomplishes in and through us. We are to be Christ’s messengers, pointing to his good works. Did you know?
Be aware of the difference between accidental and suspicious
bruises. Many children play hard, and can suffer bruises or inju-
ries as a result. With some injuries, it’s hard to tell whether they
are a result of too much roughhousing or abusive treatment. Fol-
low this guideline to assess a child’s bruising. Most accidental
bruises are in common locations – knees, elbows, and foreheads.
In contrast, bruises on a child’s neck or back could indicate poten-
tial mistreatment or abuse. Although kids should be allowed to
explore and learn their limits, suspicious bruises are warning signs

The voice in the wilderness con-
tinues to call and challenge us
during this season of advent. It
calls each one of us to a life of
change, renewal and constant
conversion. Amidst the other
voices in this world that try to
drown it, let us keep our focus
and persevere with faith and hope
in our hearts. John the Baptist is a prominent figure
during the second and third Sunday of Advent. He
enjoins us to remain focused on the true preparation
for Christmas. We may get distracted at times but his
voice redirects us, and allows us to focus on the Lord
who comes to save us. This Sunday is called Gaudete
Sunday which means it is a Sunday of joy. It is one of
the two Sundays of the liturgical year that the priests
use the vestment with a rose color to signify this
mood. It invites us to have a joyful anticipation for
the coming of the Lord. Pope Francis would always
emphasize our mission to proclaim the joy of the
Gospel. There is joy because God loves us. And be-
cause of that love, He sent his Son Jesus, the God
who saves, and the Emmanuel , the God with us. Let
us continue to listen to the voice that proclaims the
message of love and salvation. In the desert of this
advent season, the Lord talks to us and assures us of
His loving, saving and healing presence. Bible Study:
