Page 1 DECEMBER 13, 2014 A MESSAGE FROM RICHARD R. KELLEY TO OUR OUTRIGGER ‘OHANA 2014 – What a year! By Dr. Richard Kelley As we publish the last edition of Saturday Briefing for 2014, I look back with a great deal of pleasure and pride at everything we have accomplished in the past 12 months. Although our company is spread from Denver to Hawai‘i and across the Pacific with operations separated by thousands of miles of blue water and hours of flight time, we have worked together as a remarkable team. Congratulations and thanks! In Hawai‘i, Guam, Denver, Fiji, Australia, Thailand and Mauritius things have gone smoothly. Early in the year, we added Castaway Island, Fiji. Three months ago, we acquired the Konotta Island Resort situated in the Republic of Maldives in the Indian Ocean. Following a property renovation, that hotel is expected to open as the Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort in July 2015. Work has also continued on new properties at Vin Hoi Bay on the south-central coast of Vietnam and at Clearwater Bay on the southern coast of Hainan Island, China. In all locations, we have served our customers warmly and efficiently, and in most areas earned a profit as well. We have also launched a renewed focus on our brand. Our goal is to be known as the world’s Premier Beachfront Resort Brand! The announcement of this decision was made on Outrigger Founders’ Day, which honors our company’s founders, Roy and Estelle Kelley. CEO David Carey said to a gathering of guests, employees and representatives of the media, “We know beachfront destinations, and we have the experience to do it better than anyone else. Our guests will be able to rediscover Outrigger with authentic localized experiences in iconic destinations, paired with unmatched hospitality. Outrigger is an exceptional experience where “Local Culture Meets World-Class Hospitality.” On behalf of the entire Kelley family, please accept my warmest wishes for the holiday season and the New Year and my thanks for all you have done in 2014 to make Outrigger a Great Place to Work and Grow! Our resorts are separated by thousands of miles, yet we work together as a remarkable team!

Outrigger joins in the 30th celebration of Honolulu City LightsBy Kathy Hansberry

It all began in 1985, when the late Mayor Frank F. Fasi created a free event that included a lighted tree on the main lawn, tree display in the courtyard, holiday concert and displays of light on the trees and buildings from downtown Honolulu to the civic center. The Honolulu City Lights display has grown exponentially over the years and this year celebrates its 30th anniversary of festive displays and family-friendly activities that officially start the holiday season on O‘ahu. Honolulu City Lights opens on the first Saturday of December with the lighting of Honolulu’s 50-foot tree. The opening night celebration at Honolulu Hale kicks off a month-long holiday display of trees, wreaths and oversized sculptures including the famous Shaka Santa lounging with Tutu Mele at the City Hall fountain. In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, there is a Public Workers Electric Light Parade and a star-studded holiday concert on the grounds of the Frank F. Fasi Civic

Center grounds. The family-friendly event also includes food booths and a chance to visit with Santa Claus. Outrigger Resorts, the exclusive and only hotel sponsor of this event, was well represented by Bitsy Kelley, vice president of communications, as she joined other notable community leaders including Governor David Ige, Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Tom Moffatt and many others on-stage for the tree lighting ceremony. An Outrigger Resorts branded open-air trolley filled with hosts and their ‘ohana also joined the 50-plus unit parade including sponsors, marching bands, floats, city vehicles, buses and other festively adorned vehicles that made their way down the 1-mile route from ‘A‘ala Park to Honolulu Hale. The opening tree lighting ceremony, parade and concert was also broadcast live on Oceanic Cablevision ‘Ōlelo. Missed the parade? You’re in luck as ‘Ōlelo will air repeats during the month, and a Parade Special will also be shown on KITV4, schedule to be announced. Happy Holidays!

Outrigger Resorts sponsors XTERRA Trail Run World ChampionshipBy Glaiza de Gracia and Kathy Hansberry

A crisp December morning in Hawai‘i greeted over 2,000 runners from around the world at Kualoa Ranch for The Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run World Championship race. On Sunday, Dec. 7, the annual XTERRA race captured the attention of many with its challenging course trails and exciting host site location on the Windward side of O‘ahu. As the only official hotel sponsor of XTERRA, Outrigger Resorts was on location bright and early with family-friendly activities and giveaways at the Outrigger Keiki Zone. Kualoa Ranch was the perfect host site for all at XTERRA this past weekend. Breathtaking views, fun activities, upbeat music and giveaways were just some of the enjoyable aspects at the ranch on Sunday. The 21K championship course, 10K course, 5K course, and “adventure walk” took participants through terrain that varies from dense rainforest to broad open valleys, with close-up views of beautiful white sand beaches and lush cliff faces. This year, 36 Outrigger hosts, family and friends represented #teamOutrigger by running or walking in various courses. In addition, Outrigger hosts also awarded each keiki who participated in the Keiki Run with an official Outrigger keiki finisher’s medal. To top it off, the first 100 keiki finishers who showed off their shiny new medals received a free shaved ice from Kona Ice, courtesy of Outrigger Resorts. Mahalo to the following volunteers: Ed Case, Nancy and Dan Daniels, Reid Kobashigawa, Milton Lafitaga, Leilani Love, John McDonald and Lisa Tojo. A job well done to all those who participated in this year’s XTERRA race!

Everyone loves a parade!

An evening of remembranceBy Nancy Daniels

Thousands lined Kalākaua Avenue last Sunday for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade, which is held each Dec. 7 to commemorate the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. From its start, the parade has been recognized by numerous veterans associations, community organizations and military and government officials and provides participants and spectators an opportunity to salute those men and women who have and continue to sacrifice for our nation. This year’s title of Parade Grand Marshal was shared by more than a dozen Pearl Harbor survivors, all of them more than 90 years of age. Parade spectators stood and saluted these heroes as they rode by in individual vehicles, courtesy of the Corvette Club of Hawaii. Once again, Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort was proud to provide the official viewing stand for this year’s parade, with community and military VIPs and hotel guests in attendance. Mahalo to Robert McConnell, Ethan Chang, Herman Lam, the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort team and Mildred Courtney for ensuring this year’s viewing stand was a success.
