and...will have an impact on ammunition supplies and costs, according to Gun Owners o America. Former Rep. Allen West, a Florida Republican, puta statement on his website about the Doe Run plantclosure, calling it a back-door gun control move onthe part o the Obama administration and the EPA totighten ammunition supplies. However, Mike Bazinet, director o public affairswith the National Shooting Sports Foundation, takes adifferent approach: Te closing o the smelter will haveno effect on the supply or cost o ammunition in theUnited States or the simple reason that ammunitionmakers use recycled lead not the primary lead thatcomes rom that smelter. (Note to Mr. Bazinet:I theres
no effect on supply, why cant we find .22 LR ammo?) Still, theres only so much recycled lead that comesrom secondary smelters that can be had. With theHerculaneum plant shuttered, all refined lead (beyondscrap) will now have to be imported rom other nations.According to Te Firearm Blog, the leading source oprimary lead in the world will be China, ollowed byAustralia and Peru. And the more we need to import, the aster we go down the tube. While the closure o the Doe Run Company has thegun-rights crowd rightully nervous, what about thosein the auto industry? And what do you think the keycomponent in a vehicle battery is? Lead, perhaps?
More than 95 percent o spent lead-acid batteriesare recycled in the U.S., making it the most recycled
consumer product. But when we have to start importingeven more lead rom China or Australia or Peru to makethese batteries, which in turn ammo is made rom therecycled lead rom batteries, is there any doubt pricesare going to go up on both batteries and ammo?
It seems the governments goals are clear, and theywill hide behind the auspices o the EPA to accomplishtheir goals.

We have all seen sport ans go a bit crazy over theoutcome o a game but there is a limit! It was certainly a sad loss or the Alabama ootballteam (ranked #1 in the nation at the time) when Auburnran a missed field goal attempt back or more than 100yards or a D with no time lef on the clock to edge theCrimson ide 34-28. Some time later at a gathering o ans bemoaning theloss, a lady shot and killed her sister. Both women wereavid Alabama ans but the killer was inuriated becausethe sister was seen joking about the game. Tat is muchmore than just being a an. It will be interesting to see ithat 28 year old sister will get lie in prison or the deathsentence. Or, i the judge is also an avid Alabama an,perhaps she will get 30 days and a medal. It is noteworthy that, very appropriately, the accounto this incident appearing in the Billings Gazettewas NOin the sports section! Tings, Ideas & People... DanielsCounty Leader
