DECEMBER 14, 2014 JOYFUL SUNDAY Christians can’t be people of gloom. We are called to proclaim “Good News,” not bad news. In our world of worries and hardship, loneliness and despair we must be a people of hope and joy. Today is “Gaudete Sunday” – the word means “Rejoice.” Rose colored vestments may be worn in place of the Advent violet. There may be flowers on the altar and our choir sings joyful prayers. The world today may create negativism, worry, anxiety, depression and fault-finding, but God wills that we rejoice with what is good. He created all things and found that they were good. We have Christ with us; He came to redeem us all, He is fully present in our Holy Eucharist and our Mass celebration, and He will come again. Look for the “Joy” in all of our Readings and prayers today. Only God can solve every crisis – be joyful for God is good always. Rejoice. Deacon Michael Zatarga

JOYFUL SUNDAY

Christians can’t be people of gloom. We are called to proclaim “Good News,” not bad news. In our world of worries and hardship, loneliness and despair we must be a people of

hope and joy.

Today is “Gaudete Sunday” – the word means “Rejoice.” Rose colored vestments may be worn in place of the Advent violet. There may be flowers on the altar and our choir sings

joyful prayers.

The world today may create negativism, worry, anxiety, depression and fault-finding, but God wills that we rejoice with what is good. He created all things and found that they

were good. We have Christ with us; He came to redeem us all, He is fully present in our Holy Eucharist and our Mass celebration, and He will come again. Look for the “Joy” in all of our Readings and prayers today. Only God can solve every crisis – be joyful for God is

good always. Rejoice.

On Gaudete Sunday we rejoice because Emmanuel is inaugurating His Kingdom. It is a Kingdom in which all of the contradictions of creation will be overcome. “The wolf will be the guest of the lamb, the leopard will sit down with the kid, the calf and the young lion will browse together with a little child to guide them. The cow and the bear will be neighbors, the lion shall eat hay like the ox and the baby shall play by the cobra’s den. There shall be no harm or ruin on God’s Holy Mountain and the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as water covers the sea.” This vision of a world transformed by the power of God through His Messiah, His Anointed One, is a vision to which we look forward at the end of time. We also remember that it has begun in an irreversible way with the Birth of the Messiah. We are living in this Kingdom of God right now! We are “in between times” as we live now one with Christ and in His Church and as a member of His Body. We are a people of rejoicing and expectant joy!

The vision of Isaiah the Prophet inspires and challenges us. It is a call to action and conversion. That is why Advent is both a penitential season of struggle and triumph over sin and also a time of joy and celebration of our lives and our world being transformed by God’s providential love. As a marvelous evidence of the grace of God and the coming of God’s Kingdom, we are blessed during Advent with two Feasts in honor of Mary: the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mary is a great model of faith and trust in God and was predestined by God to be free from the effects of sin so that she might be the perfect exemplar of holiness and openness to the will of God. Her example challenges the depth and tenacity of our faith. Her intercession grants us strength and courage. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a powerful reminder to us of our responsibility for the poor and lowly who God elevates and dignifies. Saint Juan Diego symbolizes all of the indigenous peoples of the Americas and their worth and stature in God’s eyes regardless of human discrimination and prejudice. In faith and trust in God and in reverence and compassion for others, Mary is a perfect model for Advent prayer.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PREPARES FOR ADVENT

Last Sunday December 7th the Sunday Classes of religious education gathered in Mercy Center to reflect on the Season of Advent. The Students were challenged to start their own Advent traditions at home, praying at the dinner table with the Advent wreath, reading a bit of the beginning of the Gospel of Luke as a family every night, increasing their

participation in Sunday Mass. We concluded with the blessing of Baby Jesus. Students were asked to bring the Christ child figure from their mangers and Fr. Wesler blessed them. The children then were asked to share with their families this blessing and gather with their whole family to put the Christ child in their home manger. We are

looking forward to repeating the ceremony with the Wednesday group on December 10th.Happy Advent to all!

Nativity In Sanborn ParkOn December 4th at Sanborn Square at Mizner Park in Boca Raton, about 300 hundred people gathered to pray

together with other area Christians and bless the Nativity that will be displayed until the 6th of January.. This was a

great opportunity that united all Christians brothers and sisters to share our beliefs in the true meaning of Christmas.

The evening was graced by the presence of many children who, dressed as shepherds, angels, Wise Men and of

course Mary and Joseph sang in many languages celebrating in Joy and Hope the coming of

the Lord.
