Happy December all!

This month is filled with many events for the school as well as many

events in the classrooms. Please keep in contact with your child’s

teacher so we can make sure that all of us (school and families) are

on top of things.

One of the highlights of the month, school-wise, will be the Fine Arts

Night on 16 December from 6 to 8 PM at the JVHS performing arts

center. If things seem a little bit different this year, it is because the

JVHS GearUP program has graciously taken the lead in running it in

the absence of Mrs. Grace. Ms. Amy Eldridge has agreed to be the

master of ceremonies. I am looking forward to a grand evening and

some wonderful performances by our children. Please plan on com-

ing out!

We live in the mountains and cold weather is upon us. If we get

some bad weather please, parents, use your best judgment about

coming to school. We want to enjoy you and your children for years

to come! Thank you for allowing us the honor of working with your

children and do enjoy the rest of the Holiday season with lots of

smiles and laughter!

buy some of our fragrant ornaments.

On December 16th, the second grade will be singing in the Fine Arts program. We will be performing Santa Claus is coming to Town and Feliz Navidad. We have our tamborines and Santa

Third Grade

I am so proud of all of Third Grade class for trying their best in Turkey Trot Race.

Turkey Trot Winners in Third Grade Class

are Hazel Altheide, Aaliyah Gachupin, and Tanner Stacy. Unfortunately, a couple of students fell

and got hurt, but they were both tough about it. At the end of November, we had our Pizza party for being the

best attendance class for the first Quarter. Thank you,

Mr. Parker and Sissy for the party. It was very nice.

We have a lot of events in December. We are

learning about Hanukah holiday with books

and food with Mrs. Gooris’ 5th grade class on December 6th. We are having a booth at

Santa’s Workshop on December 10th and sell-ing earring the students have been making

with the help of parents – Thank you Leslie Aragon, Kari Dozhier, Katie Riley, and Nancy Wilkins for your help!

The earrings are coming out to be different and beautiful

by the hands of a creative group of children. We are hoping to raise money for the classroom fund. We are

also practicing our three songs – “12 Days of Christmas”, “Christmas Times’ A- Coming” and “Up on the Housetop”

for the Fine Arts Night performance on December 16th.

Finally, before the Second Quarter ends on De-cember 22nd, the Third Grade students are taking the

NWEA MAP’s test for Reading, Math, Language Usage,

and Science during the week of December 6th from 8:30-9:30.

Mrs. Breines

Fourth Grade

Fifth Grade

The fifth grade had a fantastic time at the

Turkey Trot. Everyone ran hard.

1st place Korrin Williams

2nd place Mia Sando

3rd place Moyrah Lee

Parents we could use your help at Santa ’ s Workshop this

Friday from 8:00-2:00. For Fine Arts Night we will be per-

forming “ A Techno Christmas. ” We are also having a

holiday party and dinner December 21st from 12:30-2:30.

Students should bring a gender specific gift

up to $10.00. Parents Welcome!

Mrs. Gooris

Fourth Grade

We had an awesome time at the Turkey Trot which took place on November 23rd down at

the Jemez Valley Track Complex. I know I was tired after running in four races. The winners in our

grade were Isabella Haarmann-Mijares who won a turkey,

Ezekiel Delgarito who won a pumpkin pie, and Kyanne Sando who won a box of stuffing.

The class is planning on having a Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 22nd. The party will start by having

pizza in our classroom for lunch, with games and Christmas

Music to close out our party. December 22nd is also the last day of the second nine weeks so I will be working closely

with students who are missing assignments to help them bring up their grades.

Lastly, the 4th grade class would like to wish everyone a

safe and happy holiday season.

Mr. Sando

Remember, it is important to keep reading

even during the holiday break.

Please don't forget to return your overdue

library books so that you can take a new

book home to read over the break.

Thanks!

Book Nook

There is a lot of excitement in the 4th

grade classroom. The first reason for ex-citement is because of the iPods that the

students are finally using. I have downloaded a few ap-plications, such as Math Bingo, Math Ninja, Math Flash

Cards, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, Brain

Trainer, Mr. Hat, and Countries as a few educational applications. I also included a few games such as Cut

the Rope, Oregon Trail, Solitaire, Chess, Deer Hunter, and Minesweeper for the students to use when we have

free time.

The other source of excitement is coming from our up-coming performance for Fine Arts Night. The

students will be performing a play called Reindeer Rebellion. The students have all

their roles and are currently practicing their

lines. We all hope that you enjoy our per-formance. I know that I am excited to see

the performance when it all comes together.

Just another reminder about flu vacci-

nation...I received plenty of FluMist for

the kids and have given several immunizations al-

ready. I am administering them as paperwork

comes in. Some children will need two doses this

year. Please call or come and see me if you need to

pick up the paperwork or have questions.

If your child is one of the many that may need inhal-

ers or nebulizer treatments, please make sure you

see their provider to get current prescriptions. If

these treatments need to be provided at school,

please bring them to the health office and talk to

me.

As always, I welcome your calls, questions, and

comments, and concerns in order to provide the best

care for your children. Thank you!

2010 TURKEY TROT!

Page 5

The Turkey Trot was so much fun! Special thanks to Mrs. Gooris and the PTA who put together the event. We

had a lot of (huffing and puffing!) happy kids who got a chance to get out some of their pent up energy. I also

want to thank Mr. Sando and Daniel Gooris for serving as our "turkey" this year.

Thanks to Mrs. Gazaway for helping out with second grade, Nurse Sara for fixing our kiddos boo-boo's AND a

big thank you to our deputies, Deputy Kane and Deputy Hunt for keeping us safe while we crossed the road. I

REALLY appreciate the giving spirit we have here in the valley for our kids.

Mr. Parker

December already? Wow, how time fly's when your

busy! Saturday, December 11 the Jemez State Monu-

ment presents "Light Among the Ruins: Holiday Cele-

bration" from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Monument

will be decorated with hundreds of farolitos, Jemez

Pueblo dancers will perform and there will be tradi-

tional Native American flute music. This event is free

to all visitors. What a lovely opportunity to see the his-

toric ruins.

Be sure to attend the Jemez Valley Fine Arts Night

where students will be performing various holiday

songs and perhaps a skit or two. Each student will

have a work of art displayed as well. I have saved the

majority of the work students have created this year

so that we could choose the best piece to place in this

display. Once the art has been chosen, the remainder

of the work will be sent home.

Enjoy these last few weeks of 2010 and have a won-

derful holiday season!
