DECEMBER 2014 Message from the Headmistress School Of India celebrated the Annual Sports Meet on 18th December 2014 with lot of zest and vigour. Our students put up a brilliant show! My heartfelt gratitude to the parents who graced the occasion and encouraged us immensely. As a school, our founding vision emphasises holistic development of each child. Sports play an integral role in the curriculum. We firmly believe that sports provide scope for democratic living, develops social skills, a sense of co-operation, team spirit and self discipline. It caters to the development of a child’s entire personality, supplies them the power of independent judgement and the confidence to face undaunted the turbulent world in future. The sports field is best place to learn to accept failure yet not be defeated. Our Management has promised us a state of the art sports arena with world class facilities for cricket, football, badminton, swimming pool, to mention a few. We are extremely proud to inform that the inauguration of the Math Lab of School Of India on 23 rd December was done by India’s pride Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand! We have among our students brilliant chess players who aspire to make India proud in future. On behalf of the management, I promise that, students with extra ordinary sporting abilities will be nurtured and groomed as perfectly as their academically oriented counterparts. Message from the Headmistress

School Of India celebrated the Annual Sports Meet on 18th

December 2014 with lot of zest and vigour. Our students put up a

brilliant show! My heartfelt gratitude to the parents who graced

the occasion and encouraged us immensely.

Viswanathan Anand, popularly known as 'Vishy, the Tiger from Madras' is the first

Asian to win the World Chess Championship title.

-He play games at blitz speed, earning him the nickname "Lightning Kid"

-Anand won three consecutive Advanced Chess tournaments widely recognized as the

world's best Advanced Chess player.

- Won the World Chess Championship five times(2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012)

-Anand has won the Chess Oscar 6 times, in 1997, 1998, 2003, and 2004,2007 & 2008

-He is one of only four players in history to break the 2800 mark on the FIDE rating list.

-Anand is the youngest Indian to be awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1988 at the

age of 18.

-first sportsperson to receive Padma Vibhushan,India's second highest civilian award in

Indian history.

- The first recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1991-92, India's highest

sporting honour

- He wrote a book 'My Best Games of Chess' for which he got the British Chess

Federation 'Book of the Year' Award in 1998.

-He knows 3 foreign languages:French, German and Spanish besides Tamil

and English.

This year sports day witnessed the enthralling

performances and hard work put up by all our students.

Hours of training and strenuous effort taken by our

students and teachers made this day a memorable one.

This day will be inscribed in the history of SOI as the

defense and physical fitness, It is

considered the most modern of existing self-

defense arts. In addition to being a martial

art, Tae Kwon Do is also recognized as one

of the most effective methods for improving

health, physical fitness, weight control,

flexibility, balance, agility and poise.
