Vice President’s Report

Happy Holidays to all members! It will soon be time to dothe usual ‘New Year’s resolutions’ and this is a year that you should be more involved in our club. We need to come together in one club, not the assortment of mini-clubs we have now. It's not a ‘them and you’, it is ALL OF US together! It’s DANVERS FISH AND GAME CLUB. We're all members!

We need members to start thinking about ways to help our club be even better. Examples of what you can do – become a Range Officer, join a range committee, join the House Committee, or how about thinking of running for higher office? Board of Director, Secretary, Vice President or even as President. It's your club; make a commitment to help it. Go ahead make a resolution to HELP YOURSELF AND YOUR CLUB in the New Year!

Manny Strassburger, Vice President

Secretary’s Report

Paul Richardson gave the Secretary’s report

Paul Richardson also gave the Treasurer’s Report

Vice President Manny Strassburger gave his report on the annual Children’s Christmas Party. He also spoke about the Christmas donation drawing and how it will run

The Committees gave their reports

Due to no Quorum, there was no new business. Meeting adjourned.

Bob Tozier, Secretary

Treasurer’s Report

As many of you may have heard, John Reynolds has resigned from his position as our IT person due to health reasons. John took care of our Call Letter as well as our website. Dale Hubbard and I are in the process of restoring these pieces of our Club. Please be patient, as these are not easy tasks. Reports from committees that are to go into the next call letter are due by the Sunday following the general membership meeting. No report – no Call Letter entry. All committee chair people, their designated reporters, as well as board members can email their reports to [email protected].

We are also looking for someone to step up as our GOAL/NRA liaison. Don Gentile has done an excellent job, but can no longer continue with this position due to family issues. Anyone who may be interested in filling this position is asked to contact our President, Scott Murray.

A lot of our members have voiced problems with receiving call letters via mail and/or email. Your email addresses were taken from your renewal & membership applications. Others’ handwriting is not always easy to read. If you are experiencing call letter problems, please send an email to [email protected], or call the number listed under Committee Chairpersons. Please be sure to include your full name, membership number and the specific problem you are having.

General Membership Meeting Gift Table

As of now, the December gift table has not been purchased. I’m planning to put a high-powered rifle on the regular table and we have a S&W model 638 revolver as the special handgun raffle. Hope to see you all at the Christmas meeting!

Range Reports

Archery

The sign up for the Winter League indoor and outdoor will be on Wednesday January 4th from 6:00-8:00pm down at the Archers shack. Sign-ups for Youth Archery will be on both Friday the 6th and 13th of January from 6:00 to 8:00pm downstairs at the indoor Archery range. The Youth League will begin on January the 13th, the night of the second sign-up. Happy Holidays to all!

Frontiersmen

Start stitching up your linen and wool clothes now, as the annual mid-winter ‘freeze out’, aka primitive camping & shooting weekend, to be held in January 2017 is right around the corner! I recall when the old timers there first taught me how to make my own moccasins. Not only did they look ‘primitive’, or from the times of the 1700s, they indeed were ‘primitive’! … as my feet were both cold & wet!

Indoor Range

A Turkey Shoot at the Indoor Range will be held on Sunday Dec 4th at 9am, open to Members, spouses and their children ages 12 and over. Rifles & ammo provided. The Lucky Target high score each volley will win a $25 gift certificate; only 10 shooters per volley. Entry fee is $5 per volley. This will coincide with the Club Breakfast so as to encourage more participants. Volunteers are needed. We ran this last year with great fun and a boost for the treasury.

Indoor Range Safety Officers are asked to call John Rowen 978-887-9279 to confirm their availability for shift duty (regular and substitute) so we can establish a reliable schedule with qualified personnel. If you are inactive or no longer available, please return your issued Indoor Range door key with a note to the Vice President's Mailbox in the Main Clubhouse or to JR directly.

New Security cameras, monitor and a recording system has been obtained and need to be installed at the Indoor Range and Main Clubhouse. This will enhance the safety and accountability at our facility. If you can help, please contact Manny or JR. Date and times will be posted.

John ‘JR’ Rowen, Indoor Range Chair

Junior Rifle Division

The new Junior Division students have completed their 6th week of instruction and will soon be having their first live fire exercise. Every Friday night through June these youngsters will be competing in 4-Position NRA Small Bore Matches. A second NRA Basic Rifle Course will be offered in March if there is sufficient interest. Youths age 12 and above are eligible.

John ‘JR’ Rowen, Jr. Division Chair

Legislative Updates & More GOAL, NRA, NSSF – No report.

Outdoor Range

The ‘Outdoor Range Orientation Program’ is going well with over 200 members that have taken it. Remember, after January 1, 2017, you will need the orientation card, along with current Club membership card and an appropriate firearms license to shoot at the Outdoor Range. If you have not gone through the orientation, stop by the range house and make arrangements to get it done.

On December 18 at 1pm we will be having a ‘100-Yard Handguns on Steel’ shoot. 3 steel plates (ringers) at 100-yards, Nevada Sweep – iron sights, center-fire only, 4-inch barrel minimum (no compact guns), 1200 fps rounds, jacketed OK. Money shoot - smaller plate. 6-shots; pistol or revolver. A ‘gun rug’ or mounted holster is required. A mandatory safety meeting before the shoot begins. The range will be closed to general shooting and may re-open after the shoot if time permits.

Have a Merry Christmas and safe New Year from all at the Outdoor Range!

Skip Cakounes, Outdoor Range Chair

Pin Range

The Pin Range will be having a ‘25 Steel Match’ on Sunday Dec 11 at 11am. The range will be closed at that

time for normal shooting. A mandatory safety meeting will begin right at 11am and you have to be at the safety

meeting to shoot. The course of fire will be 25 steel targets, maximum of 10-rounds per magazine, but

unlimited number of mags. Classes will be stock, open and revolver. $5 per gun. This match is a good way to

practice your mag changes/reloads! This will be a timed event. Any questions call Bryan at 978-828-7387.

As always we are always on the lookout for new Range Officers. If you would be interested, please contact

Jamieson Wicks @ 508-574-3881. We are a volunteer club so the more help the better. And the more help we

have – the more we can open the range.

Skeet Range – No report.

Trap Range

Danvers Fish & Game Trap held its Thanksgiving Shoot on Sunday November 13, 2016. Many Trap shooters showed up to shoot the Lucky Bird for a chance to win a Turkey. All you had to do was hit the white bird when it came out on your turn to shoot. We also had many shooters shooting the High Gun Shoot, 2-shots on every station and the one with the most birds ‘hit’ won. Over 75 shooters showed up and had a great time!
