* Ms. Cathy Arellano was officially declared the winner of the recent trustee election for Position 6 and Mr. Rick Mann for Position 7. Mr. James Wunderlich administered the oaths of office.
* A new slate of officers was selected as follows: President—Bill Pilkington; Vice Presi-dent—Rick Mann; and Secretary—Steve Smith.
* The Klein Oak High School Choir performed under the direction of Mr. James Kritikos.
* Native Texans in the audience were welcomed and recognized.
* Board president Bill Pilkington thanked Mr. Paul Lanham who served as a member of the Klein ISD Board of Trustees from 2010—2016.
* Superintendent, Bret Champion, introduced new administrators as follows: Tom Hagger-ty, Director of Capital Projects; Scott Lazar, Director of Plant Operations; Doug Massey, Director of Nutrition & Food Service; and Allie Martin, the new principal at Klenk Elemen-tary School.
* Klein Education Foundation director, Cindy Doyle, presented a check to the district in the amount of $76,800 and introduced the grant winners.
* The Nutrition and Food Services Department was recognized for receiving a zero find-ings rating on its recent administrative review conducted by the Texas Department of
* The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Stand Up for Public Education award was presented to the Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrich-
* The Resolution to initiate the process of designation as a District of Innovation was ap-
proved. A public hearing was then conducted on the district’s eligibility for seeking the
designation. The District Instructional Development Committee presented a petition in
support of the designation, and an overview of the process of becoming an innovation
district was presented. During public comment, the following people spoke: Ms. Heather
Aidan (Kleb Intermediate), Ms. Kathy Vergara (Language Instructional Specialist), and
Mr. Bob Anderson (principal, Klein Intermediate).
* Mr. Chad Corbitt, energy manager, presented the 2015-16 year end Energy Report.
The following items were approved by the Board:
The order authorizing the issuance of Klein Independent School District Series 2017 Unlimited Tax Schoolhouse
Bonds, Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds, and/or Unlimited Tax Schoolhouse and Refunding Bonds; Levying a
Tax and Providing for the Security and Payment Thereof; Providing for the Award of the Sale Thereof in Accord-
ance with Specified Parameters; Approving the draft version of a Preliminary Official Statement; and Enacting
Other Provisions Relating thereto was made. Mr. Gene Shepherd and Mr. Matt Dustin of RBC Capital Markets
and Mr. Jonathan Frels of Bracewell LLP provided information regarding the refunding and the bond sale;
Campus improvement plans, schematic design and design development for the 2017 facilities renovation project
(architectural), and construction documents for the 2017 facility renovations project (roofing);
The Force Main Easement to Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 383 (Hassler Elementary);
Membership in the Go Public Gulf Coast, a non—profit organization supporting public education;
Adoption of a Resolution concerning the A-F Accountability Rating System for Texas public schools;
Petitions for tax refunds in excess of $500;
Sale of obsolete, unusable, and non-repairable surplus property via national online website service auction;
Budget amendments for the 2016-17 school year;
Renewal of Bid #’s 17-171, 17-199, 17-201;
Approval of Bid #’s 17-207, 17-216, 17-229, CSP #17-214 and RFP #16-251;
Charter Schools statement of impact applications: UT Tyler Innovation Academy, Prestige Academy, Legacy
Traditional School, and Legacy of the School of Sport Sciences;
Amendment to the Staff Compensation Plan for 2016-17;
Proposed modifications to local board policy FNAB Student Expression—Use of School Facilities for Nonschool
Purposes;
The minutes of the regular meeting on November 14, 2016 and the canvassing meeting on November 18, 2016.
* A report was given on the meeting of the audit committee held earlier in the evening. An overview was provided by
Ms. Audrey Ambridge, director of accounting, of the draft of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the year
ending August 31, 2016. Ms. Debbie Kirkham of Weaver & Tidwell, provided an overview of the Federal Single Audit
Report. Ms. Stephanie Duran provided an update on the progress of audits being conducted by internal audit.
* The announcement was made that all board trustees have exceeded their requirement for continuing education credit
for 2016, with the exception of the newly elected trustee, who will begin meeting continuing education credit require-
ments in 2017.

ington for taking on the role.
* Welcome new trustee Ms. Cathy Arellano.
* Thanks to the audit committee for the hard work involved in preparing the financial statements and conducting inter-
nal audits.
* Congratulations to teachers who received grants from the Klein Education Foundation; to the recent Vistas gradu-
ates; to the Klein Collins football team for their success during the playoffs; and to the Klein Forest High School bas-
ketball team.
