1 The Men’s Shed (North Shore) Trust December 2019 Sheddies’ Chatter Welcome to the December 2019 Edition of Sheddies’ Chatter. It’s Christmas time again. Seems to creep up faster and faster every year. Hope you’ve all had a happy successful year and managed to get in plenty of shed time. Next year’s looking interesting, there’s a strong possibility of another extension, the Board is looking at improved dust extraction and the purchase of a ‘Sawstop’ table saw. Have a look: https://youtu.be/T3IGPCkirdU This should help make the workshop a lot safer as there have been several preventable injuries on the existing table saw. Once again this year, I have had the privilege of sitting in on many of the monthly Board meetings in order to gather more content for this newsletter. As always, I am amazed at the amount of effort that goes on behind the scenes into the day to day running of our Shed. As in most organisations, the majority of the hard yards is performed by a small handful of dedicated people. Unlike other organisations I have been involved in, our Board of Trustees put in a tremendous amount of work to ensure the smooth safe running of the Shed without the internal politics and egos. On your behalf, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chairman Larry Klassen, Secretary Dave Whiting, Treasurer Kerry Stenhouse and the entire Board of Trustees for their dedication to making our Shed one of the best in the country. Thanks must also go to all the other members who do more than their fair share behind the scenes. Please all have a safe enjoyable Christmas and New Year and I look forward to catching up with you next year. ......................................... Feel free to join our Facebook Community Group. We have a solid base of regular volunteers at the Shed, and we continue to add new members all the time. We always seem to have interesting projects to challenge us, and the support of a wide range of people and organisations. It is that spirit that grows in the membership and makes the Shed. Next year is already shaping up to be a similarly satisfying and busy year with Shed Extension #3 in early planning stages, our Technology and Media Centre coming online (no pun intended), and fully testing out our amazing new welder! Our welding classes were a real success, and hopefully we can build on that too. Merry Christmas! Larry Klassen, Chairman ..................................... Sheddies’ Chatter

Welcome to the December 2019 Edition of Sheddies’ Chatter.

Have a look: https://youtu.be/T3IGPCkirdU

This should help make the workshop a lot safer as there have been several preventable injuries on the existing table saw.

Once again this year, I have had the privilege of sitting in on many of the monthly Board meetings in order to gather more content for this newsletter.

As always, I am amazed at the amount of effort that goes on behind the scenes into the day to day running of our Shed. Chairman’s Message Well, it has been another wonderful year at the Shed. We have a solid base of regular volunteers at the Shed, and we continue to add new members all the time.

We always seem to have interesting projects to challenge us, and the support of a wide range of people and organisations. We would like to thank the following for their support and actively working with our Shed:

Kaipatiki Local Board

KCFT

Bunnings

Mitre10

Placemakers

Dulux (and Heather Law)

Barfoot & Thompson (and particularly Lance Clarke and Shelley Boyed)

Local Schools, Playcentres and Kindergartens

Personally, I would like to thank each member of the Board of Trustees for their help, support, and friendship.

Larry Klassen, Chairman

Christmas Lunch 2019

Once again we have been treated to an amazing Christmas lunch. Every year they seem to get bigger and better. There was yummy food galore, heaps of people and a good chance for everyone to catch up. There were also some items for sale and most of them got snapped up pretty quickly.

Chairman Larry Klassen made special thanks to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organise and prepare our lunch. He also thanked the many people who had helped out at the Shed during the year. Secretary Dave Whiting also thanked Larry for his hard work throughout the year as Chairman

January BBQ Guest Speaker :

Author Cherry Parker

Author Cherry Parker knows a special man whose wife passed away after 44 years of marriage and found that he couldn't cook.

She realised that no doubt he is not the only one and so decided to write a book simply on how to cook to help out. .

The food choices are for those who are suddenly faced with having to cook for themselves and have never done so before.

Ideas are offered as uncomplicated varied meal options and are easily achievable, no strict rules- just options.

Cherry says "I am not a nutritionist or dietitian, just an ordinary person who cooks and suddenly found someone who couldn't".

Signed copies of the book is available from the Men's Shed at $20 per copy with part proceeds going to the shed.

Cherry will be our guest speaker at our BBQ on 8th January, accompanied by her good friend and subject of the book and she will tell us all about it.

Thanks to Graham Bolton for organising this
