PARISH From Our Pastor

…”And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your

greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." Our Gospel, for the fourth Sunday of Advent, has three ‘moments’ that should cause each of us to pause and reflect. First, Elizabeth was asking ‘how it happens to her’ that God should choose to come and visit her. It’s a great moment for us to be aware that God wants to come into our lives – visit us. We should be humbled and in awe that God should choose us – if we are alert enough to notice. Secondly, the fruit – the result – of being in God’s presence is JOY. Think of all the things we do to try to get happiness. JOY comes when we live in the awareness – and place ourselves – in the presence of the Lord. Finally, and most importantly, blessed are those who trust that God will do what God promises to do. There’s a lot in this Gospel that should cause all of us to pause and reflect on the presence, action and blessings that come when we live in the awareness of God’s action and presence in our lives.

…I pray these Advent weeks have been blessed for you and your family. For our parish family, Father Rob said it best the other day when we were talking, “this really has been a great Advent. You can feel and see the peacefulness… and joyfulness… and presence of God in our members.” The Church has been full for weekend Masses. The Giving Tree donations have been humbling and inspiring. Participation in all the programs and activities has been strong and meaningful. Father Rob and I pray every day that these may be good, holy, peaceful days of God’s abiding presence and peace.

…Many thanks to Janet Majka and her team who made last Sunday’s Living Nativity the best ever. It was beautiful to see our young members bring to life the Birth of Jesus. The animals, the music, and the Santa present being the ‘first gift’ to Jesus was simply beautiful.

…Here’s a beautiful story…this past week we had a funeral for one of our long-time members. One of the very last things he did before getting ready to go home to the Lord

was give a gift to God. It was important to him to make an offering to his parish – his Church – his Lord. How amazingly beautiful and humbling to be so thoughtful to God and the work of the Lord. Please pray for his eternal rest and for his beautiful wife and family.

…A couple of times this past week, I had the blessing and privilege of going to see the ‘shop’ where our Catholic Works of Mercy team is preparing all the gifts for our adopted families for Christmas As I shared with you last week – your thoughtfulness was amazingly beautiful and humbling. There were thousands of gifts to take care of hundreds and hundreds of people. Truly, truly, truly the real spirit of Christmas. Blessed are you who trust that God will provide for you as you care for the needs of God’s people.

…Last year, during the Capital Campaign for our Church repair and renovation, I had the blessing of meeting with one of our couples who have a great love for our parish community, and ALL that we do for the Lord and those in need in our region. Long story short, when they were discerning their pledge commitment that said, “We’ve already made a gift to the Church but you are going to have to wait until we die.” They went on to explain that it’s always been their ‘hope’ to help create more adequate space for our community outreach programs and Catholic Works of Mercy ministry and foodbank. They were waiting because they thought ‘it could never happen now.’ With their lead gift, along with some other legacy donations that have been given to our outreach ministry over the past fifteen years, our parish will be blessed to have a Catholic Works of Mercy Community Outreach Center. These gifts, along with some support of some of our members and contractor friends, will create this amazing blessing for our parish. It’s a testament to the GREAT work of our Catholic Works of Mercy Team AND to YOUR great goodness and generosity to care for those in need.

…Our Vision 20/20 leadership team met with the Diocesan Facilities Team this past week to update them on this project, along with the Church, and the upcoming construction of a new home for Littlest Angels Preschool. They were very pleased with the progress and supportive of the efforts moving forward.

…Across the street from the south parking lot you can see that some houses have been

demolished. Hopefully, in February, a private developer from our region will move forward with construction of a new home for our Littlest Angels Preschool, along with a Sport Court and some commercial/retail space. Saint Ambrose is NOT building this building or paying for this project. We will be paying a very reasonable rent for the use of the space. It will create a much more suitable home for our FIVE STAR rated PreSchool, along with some additional space for a STEM/STEAM lab in Saint Ambrose School. This means that we will have a better home for our preschool and can accommodate more students/programs. It means that after sixty years, our CYO basketball and volleyball teams will be able to have ‘home’games. It’s a great blessing to our parish.

…This week we received an updated ‘video’ rendering with the final selections for the Church. We also have posted renderings of the new preschool. Go to: www.StAmbrose.us/vision2020 to see both. Senior Housing is also not far behind….perhaps starting in March or April. Again, this will not involve any parish funds or land.

…What’s most exciting about all of this – added parking lots we can ‘borrow’ for Christmas Eve and Easter!!! We will have off duty police assisting on Christmas Eve, along with a shuttle bus running from the football field parking lots. There’s room for everyone and we will work hard to make sure everyone has a warm welcome and a comfortable place for Christmas.

…Christmas Eve/Day will be the last time we will be in the Church for Mass until Easter. It’s a special time of remembering the wonderful moments of God’s grace and blessing. Think about the special family moments, community celebrations, prayers petitioned – and prayers answered – while in this very special place – God’s house.

…There’s lots of Good News and Great joy in the blessings of our parish community. I pray every day for you and your loved ones. May you know the abundant blessings of God in your life. May these Christmas days be blessed – filled with God’s grace and peace. See you for Christmas.

One of my favorite memories is on Holy Saturday when families bring their food to be blest. It is important to have our ethnic traditions.  - Donna Moran

From the Advent Night Of Worship last year. I have video of you talking last year as well, Father Bob Stec. Not sure that there is a way to send that over.
