ALLEN ADVOCATE www.allennewspaper.com VOLUME 66 NUMBER 13 ALLEN, PONTOTOC COUNTY , OKLAHOMA 1 SECTION (USPS 543600) 50¢ THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2012 CYAN MAGENTA YELLOW BLACK The Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office received a call early Thursday morning, December 20 th , from a motorist who reported running over an elderly woman’s body west of Allen on the Francis Road detour, County Road 1495. The incident was reported at 5:13 a.m. The woman has been identified as Dorothy Bailey, 83, of Francis. She was pronounced at the scene by Valley View EMS from massive injuries. The Sheriff’s deputies began a preliminary investigation and it was determined that the victim had been struck by multiple motor vehicles at some point in the morning hours, all of whom had left the scene of impact. OHP Troopers were contacted and arrived along with the State Medical Examiner and county authorities; officials confirmed the deputies’ findings. The OHP investigation into the cause of the collision and medical history of the victim are ongoing at this time. Mrs. Bailey had a reported history of dementia. The accident was investigated by Trooper James McKee of the Pontotoc County Detachment of Troop F, assisted by Trooper Keith Teel and Lt. Brett Sayre of the Pontotoc County Detachment of Troop F, Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office, Ada Fire Department and Francis Fire Depart- ment. Hit and Run Accident Claims Life of Dorothy Bailey By Fiona Green As runners age, we notice a change in our performance. Although the effort is the same, the clock reflects the reality. While we might im- prove mentally as the years roll by, physically we start to slow down. Unless you happen to be Skeeter Hogue who at 66 -- almost 67 years old - is in the best shape of his life. Skeeter placed in the top 10 in the Jingle Bell Jog 5K in Waxahachie on Saturday morning (Dec. 22, clocking a 21:14. Not only did he easily win his age group but he also won the Masters title, outrunning men almost 30 years younger. The race was Hogue’s 60th of the year and his best time in 2012. Hogue, who had driven three hours from his home in Oklahoma for the race, is an inspiration to all. He began running only eight years ago on his doctor’s or- ders (Dr Michelle Barlow). In the previous years, he was an overweight smoker! He had smoked for 37 years. Now his lungs are completely clear and are obviously function- ing well. After he stopped smoking and started running, he shed 70 pounds in only five months! His doctor is very proud Skeeter Hogue hitting stride at 66 Weekend guests at the home of Bill and Glendene Griffin were their grandson and fam- ily, Conner, Rikki and Jordan Tinkler of Norman. The Tin- klers brought the Griffins a set of three handmade wooden Christmas trees for their yard. After attending church to- gether they were joined for lunch by Dylan Tinkler of Poteau, and David and Marla Tinkler of Ada. —O&A— Christmas season visitors at Wayne and Pat Bullard’s home have included Steve, Court- ney and Francesca Bullard of Jenks, and grandson Braden Bullard, also from Jenks. A special Christmas dinner was served Saturday evening and enjoyed by Dr. Tim and Lesli Costner and daughters Emilee and Meegan, and the Jenks guests. Other visitors during the evening were Lou Ann Janda of Allen, Lindsey Boyles and daughter Karter of Marlow. Later on Carol Cook, with two of her granddaughters, Jayden and Emory Gray, came by for a visit. On Sunday, Wayne, Lesli, Meegan, Stevi Caldwell and Braden Bullard drove to Nor- man to watch the OU women battle Vanderbilt at the Lloyd Nobel Arena. Afterwards they drove to Henryetta to meet Braden’s mom and sister, Ren- etta and Lindsey Bullard, for his trip home to Jenks. Lindsey is home for the holidays from Stetson University in Florida where she will graduate this coming spring. —O&A— Juanita Matthews of Ada spent Sunday afternoon with her grandchildren, Kelsey and Christopher Hurt. —O&A— Out & About Allen Snowmen aren’t the only ones who wear top hats . . . so do Dylan Brown, Braydon Smart and Kayd Bell. For those of us that have bought “put-together” toys for Christmas for our children in the past, we can identify with Ned Crabb who wrote the following . . .

The following instructions, coffee-stained and torn, were found in a box amid a jumble of tools and mechanical parts on the sidewalk outside a Manhattan apartment building along with discarded trees and other holiday trash. Just visible inside the box was a gift tag that read “Merry Christmas to Johnny. Love, Mom and Dad.”

Congratulations! You are the lucky owner of the Model ZVZ156 Vangplotz High-Digenation Wide-Scringe Framulator, Series 7000, with fernillated quick-response Worzel and 20,000 zurlebytes of scringe-view quorms. Follow these simple instructions and soon you will enjoy untold hours of pleasure.

IMPORTANT: Begin by lifting out the plune-wrapped section marked “Lithinode Distrillitor” and refer to the blue-colored picrochit-regulator intensity chart on the side. If the chart has the fuchsia-colored code BRZ3434, your unit requires an AC4(x2z3) power influrger. Extract the influrger pack from the distrillitor’s surge-protection splange and check the code. If you have an AC5(x3z4) influrger instead of an AC4(x2z3) model, or if the intensity chart is colored burnt orange instead of blue, then call your local Vangplotz

“Speedy Geek” home service provider at 1-800-UONHOLD. (WARNING: If the intensity chart is colored silver with pink stripes, then your distrillitor must be activated in person by a Vangplotz lithinode technician within 48 to 72 hours. Vangplotz service centers are conveniently located in the Yellow Dog, Ala., industrial campus and the six-story Grendel Mall-City in Frozen Badger, N.D.)

Next, lift out the tray marked “Tools” and check the inclusions against the following list:

One 7¾-inch extenulatorTwo packages of ¾-inch

fribbetsFour packages of 1½-inch

squiller

Unpack the main components: Scringe, MO-DOR qualblanz scrambler, disk-o-later insertion whindler, zagenator, gridger board, Wooflang biceptor, varnicle inhibitor, Worzel.

Remove plune-wrapping from the scringe. Using the 7¾-inch extenulator, calibrate the number of inches spanning the scringe-gripper aperture on the MO-DOR scrambler. The ZVZ156 scringe must have a 14-inch aperture to successfully interflex with the MO-DOR picrochits. If the aperture exceeds 14 inches, insert and turn the soft-COR elasticized squiller. Upon completion proceed to:

STEP 1:First, insert the lithinode distrillitor pack into the scringe

under the panel marked Varnicle Reflexelator Chamber. A flinged graffler at the bottom of the chamber will connect the distrillitor to the varnicle. Next, lower the scringe into the MO-DOR scringe-gripper aperture using the swigel-headed flonge to secure it onto the varnicle nodes,

Pre-K students in Mrs. Mills class did their impres-sion of reindeer. Pictured are Gus Matthews, Bryar Wilson and Blake Campbell.

Wearing their top hats while singing about snowmen were Addison Prentice and Skylie Benson.

Allen 4-H students distributed Christmas stockings to resi-dents at Woodland Hills. Pictured are Madison Dohlman, Emma Peay and Meysa Dohlman.

which conduct 20-zilihurtz magnifiers to the varnicles. Use the multipronged grallup to secure the pink wooplers to the orange varnicle nodes and the four triple-pronged green wires to the varnicle inhibitor. WARNING: Even one woopler-varnicle node misconnection will cause xurls to disrupt the scringe-view quorms once the framulator is plugged in.

STEP 2:On the gridger board, align

the zagenator, whindler and biceptor units 2.725 inches apart, calibrating the distance with the extenulator. Place the gridger board on top of the units and secure with 1½-inch fribbets using the revolving spangler. Stabilize the units by installing fandles using 1½-inch fribbets.

Go carefully; this is a narrow space: Attach the Spurgel-head grommel onto the wronchle prong of the multi-pronged grallup and position it directly over a fribbet.

Next, extend the revolving spangler to the fourth joint, attach the bludgger head and release the sping-grip. With your left hand, carefully lower the spangler and clamp the sping-grip around the grommel handle while turning the spangler speed valve to “rapid” with your right, and pressing the oscillator button with your other hand.

Over the years I have learned that paying the extra to have someone put them together is a great bargain.

—CC— Speaking of children, Boyd

and Veda Jones have three sons just like Dayna and I do. I really enjoyed what she wrote . . .

Payback! It didn’t start out as re-

venge. Looking at the de-struction around me, I said what mothers have said for centuries: “Wait until you have children of your own.” My three sons swore they would never have offspring. In retaliation, I started a list of their misdeeds and told them that someday they will know what it was like to be on the receiving end. They protested that all their wrong-doings were accidents. But the list has been started.

As soon as the boys set up housekeeping, my husband, Jim, and I will knock calmly on the door. A 7.8 earthquake or a tornado will seem mild after Jim and I descend upon them with the list in hand.

We’ll start screaming and arguing as soon as we en-ter the house, and it goes without saying that we’ll be wearing gummy, black base-ball cleats. Not only will we make marks on the kitchen floor, but we’ll walk on the couch, too.

After we flip on every light in the house, we’ll start at the top of the list. Clogging the toilet will be simple. There are several methods on the list to choose from. We can see if the Superman doll can overcome being flushed, or we can choose the more con-ventional manner and clog it with paper bathroom cups (so they won’t know how many

we’ve been using) or with a diaper or just three-fourths of a roll of toilet paper.

Armed with crayons, we’ll draw pictures on the walls. I’m leaning toward a Picasso look-alike. Jim prefers poin-tillism. We’ll use red Magic Marker in the middle of the tan carpet – where the couch can’t be moved to hide it.

Spills are a cinch. I’ll drop a jar of sweet pickles, one of honey, and another of apple juice on the kitchen floor. I’ll leave the top off the popcorn popper so kernels and oil splatter everywhere. In the living room, Jim will knock over three full cups of hot chocolate with half-melted miniature marshmallows.

Jim and I have argued over the windows and have compromised, because we don’t want to send the boys to bankruptcy court. We’ll break only one window, but we’ll make sure it’s on the second floor.

We’ve also compromised about jumping on the beds. I don’t mind the jumping, but I’m not going to hit my head on the window ledge and require stitches. We’ll put ketchup instead of blood on the bedspread.

I’m not going to chop the bark off a redbud tree with a golf club, either. It doesn’t seem right to hurt a living thing for the sake of a list and a promise, and I’m going to explain that to the boys. Our redbud is still living, but it’s crippled and stands very lopsided. I couldn’t do that to a tree.

But I will knock over a few plants. They always seem to survive a spilling, because they get new dirt in the clean-up process.

I hope the boys have screened-in porches. Jim gets the honor of knocking the screen door off the hinges (by accident, of course), since he always has to fix it. I’ll just poke holes in the screens with Popsicle sticks so that insects – especially wasps – can get in.

Breaking a recliner will be a breeze. Jim and I will do that together so that one of us doesn’t get hurt. We’ll sit on the arms and talk, and we’ll put our weight on the headrest until the chair turns over. I imagine it will take several falls, but we’ll have plenty of time.

Speaking of time, we’ll sneak into their bedrooms and set their alarms for 1:13 a.m. I never learned why they set our alarm for that special moment. That first night I thought I’d dreamed it. The second night I stayed up the next three hours won-dering if it would go off again.

I wonder how the boys will feel about being pushed into the swimming pool – fully clothed, shoes on, and bill-folds in back pockets?

There’s something about boys. Parents who have a couple girls, even three, will have a different sort of life. For every girl, the mischief goes up linearly. With boys, the mischief is exponentially compounded.

My list will grow as the years go by, but I really hate

to use it against the boys. I’d rather my sons just had children of their own.

Two of our sons now have children. We laugh when they are with us and we laugh even more when we know they are at home with their parents causing havoc and destruction.

Truly, there is justice in the world!

One Pharmacist’s View~ Cutting Back ~ Well, here we are, still

alive and living our lives. The Mayan calendar was either wrong or perhaps we’ve all been “left behind.” Those of us who maxed out our credit cards or perhaps went the other way and didn’t buy their wife a Christmas present are really up against it. However, there may be some bright spots down the road. It looks like we may not go over that thing called a “Fiscal Clift” after all. The president hopes to present his own spending cuts just as soon as he finishes up his vacation there in his birthplace Kenya—oh I meant Hawaii. Sorry. The Republicans say that President Obama is to blame in the first place for this “Clift” in his failure to cut federal spend-ing. But they fail to take into account what the President has already proffered.

My Utah correspondent, Dick True pointed out to me re-cently that Obama has already (contrary to what the Repub-licans say) offered some cuts in spending--$100,000,000.00

dollars as a matter of fact. I have trouble comprehending a million dollars and a billion is way out there but when he offers to cut a hundred billion dollars out of his federal bud-get, I am impressed. That is real money. We were taught ratio and proportion over at Stonewall in the 8th grade to help us solve math prob-lems and also to help us get mathematical projections in perspective—so I checked it out.

My Utah correspondent spends about $20,000 a year on groceries, utilities, gasoline and whatever it costs him to live. Pulling a hundred billion dollars off the federal budget and taking it in perspective to and proportionally to $20,000 comes out like this—six cents a year. So if my buddy wants to tighten his belt accordingly and help out he needs to spend less, to the exact proportion that President Obama is proposing to the federal budget—well he needs to spend only $1,999.94

next year not the full $20,000. Problem solved?

For news here on the home front, old glory is waving once more from the intersection of SH-48 and E. Broadway. It’s our 3rd flagpole this year. Early this year the pole was run over by a car driven by a woman. No further comment there. Later this second pole was believed to have been whacked over by an 18 wheeler cutting through town—illegally. So now we have number 3, a brand new pole, new flag and a new base and I think it’s the finest look-ing one yet and many thanks to our city manager and others who saw to its replacement. Pole #3 was set back east a bit and has a better built up base to help it stay upright in the face of traffic. But what we really need is for people to just be more careful there.

It was another “rare” white Christmas this year. My company is all gone and the biggest thing I have to show for

the holiday is me. I’ve gained about 5 pounds in 5 days. The Christmas day snow moved in about 1PM and some said it was only 2 inches or less. It was hard to measure in the high winds and besides, who wanted to get out in those 25 degree winds and try to mea-sure it anyway? Not me.

Sunday morning services at the Baptist Church were well attended as the children’s classes sang Christmas Songs (of course) to us last Sunday. These children did an excellent job singing in presenting their inspirational program. After the Christmas Sermon by Pas-

tor Chad Kaminski the praise team led by Jeff Ray presented a medley of Silent Night and Oh Holy Night.

Monday, Christmas Eve night, I attended the 10PM candlelight services at the Methodist Church. As usual it was an outstanding and meaningful program for those who attended as well as the presenters. Special thanks to Rev. Bob Langston the pastor and Soloist Crystal Johnson for jobs well done.

I wish all of you a very happy New Year and hope you can attend your church this Sunday.
