Joanne Gibson, Editor Diana Zuna-Nieves, Associate Editor Bulletin announcements and columns are due on Mondays before 2 PM except before holidays.
Bulletin drafts are submitted to Msgr. Flynn for review. Email submissions to [email protected]. Email photos of St. Mark’s events to [email protected].
In addition to all the wonderful gifts from St. Mark’s parishioners via the Giving Tree, members of the Social Concerns committee learned of some families in Asbury Park who were not able to buy gifts for their children. Several committee members shopped for 8 families with children in grades 1st to 3rd. Each shopper took a list for a family and went to the local department stores. Lists requested an outfit (top, bottom & shoes) for each child and a toy or game. Funding for this project was made possible from the contributions to Social Concerns at the annual 4th of July collection and donations throughout the year.
Since many of the families in Asbury Park get lunch at school, committee volunteers solicited food donations from Costco, Whole Foods, ShopRite and Wegman’s to provide lunch provisions for a total of 50 families. Each family received peanut butter and jelly, snacks and juice for lunches during the Christmas break. With the help of the Social Concerns volunteers and the support of the parish, we were able to bring Christmas joy to many of our neighbors in need.
The Joy of Giving by Janet Ferrante
The Holy Family SIRACH 3:2-6, 12-14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you. PSALMS 128:1-5 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! COLOSSIANS 3:12-21 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. MATTHEW 2:13-15, 19-23 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod.
And receiving! Our happy winner of the Confirmation Class gift basket is all smiles!!! See pages 6-9 for photos by Sara Lynch, Dawne Mechlinski, Mary Reilly and Diana Zuna-Nieves, for the many ways St. Mark’s parishioners gifted their time, talent and treasure to the parish, community and charities!
