An Atlanta-based manufacturing company, will pay $500,000 to 14 employees and provide other significant relief to settle a racially hostile environment lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The consent decree settling the suit, signed today by U.S. Federal District Judge Jane Boyle, resolves the EEOC’s claims against RockTenn. The EEOC charged RockTenn with subjecting a class of African-American employees to race discrimination.

According to the EEOC’s suit, Case No. 3:10-cv-01960 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, a class of African-American employees were subjected to violent, racist graffiti, including “KKK,” swastikas, Confederate flags, “white power” and other racist terms, including “die, n----r, die.” RockTenn employees also saw hangman’s nooses displayed at its Dallas paper mill. Several employees were referred to by racist slurs including “n----r.” Michael Scott, who filed a discrimination charge with the EEOC, was a called a “n----r” by his supervisor. Scott later discovered a noose at his work station. The EEOC complained that RockTenn officials repeatedly ignored the

complaints of racist graffiti even after it was reported to management on multiple occasions, including at monthly labor-management meetings.

The EEOC was set to go to trial on this case before U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas on Dec. 3. In addition to presenting testimony from the class of 14 black employees, the EEOC expected to call two white employees of RockTenn to testify about numerous instances of racist graffiti and racial comments by managers made at the paper mill.

“Racism in any form is bad enough, but racist graffiti that included Confederate flags and death wishes accompanied by vile racist epithets go far beyond the pale even of prejudice,” said EEOC Senior Trial Attorney Joel Clark. “Terms like ‘KKK’ evoke violent and threatening attitudes towards African-Americans. RockTenn should have immediately responded to the reports of racist graffiti instead of permitting their employees to work in an atmosphere full of these menacing, racist taunts.”

Race discrimination in the workplace, including race harassment, violates Title

VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The EEOC filed suit after first attempting to reach a pre-litigation settlement through its conciliation process.

Robert A. Canino, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Dallas District Office, said, “This case demonstrates racism at its most hateful level. The violations in this case are especially odious in light of the multiple reports of racist graffiti made by numerous employees. The EEOC will continue to aggressively pursue employers that violate their workers’ rights.”

The two-year consent decree settling the case provides for an injunction against RockTenn that prohibits the company from further discriminating against any employee or harassing any employee on the basis of race. RockTenn will pay $500,000 in monetary relief and will conduct annual anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training. As part of the decree, RockTenn also agreed to imple-ment an anti-graffiti policy, which requires the company to conduct weekly monitoring of its facilities and to also discipline any employee found to have created graffiti.

ROCKTENN SERVICES PAYS $500,000 TO SETTLE EEOC SUIT

Everywhere you look, things are changing. People seem to be in a hurry wherever they are going, or whatever they are doing. What we want, we wanted yesterday. We don’t want to wait for anything.

The churches have changed over the years since I’ve been born. I was looking over an bulletin given to all the people at the church last Sunday where I attended all my young life. I was brought up in the church, and I reminisced about the days of long ago and about the older people who have gone on before us. I often wonder

what they would think about the way church is conducted today, if they were to return? Traditional hymn books have been mostly taken from the church pews. The music is nothing like it used to be, and more and more pianos are being replaced with keyboards and CD’s.

Don’t get me wrong; there’s nothing wrong with keyboards and CD’s, but everything has it’s place. I suppose I was brought up in an era when there was nothing better than a beautiful song, sung to piano music, ringing to the rafters, rejoicing the Lord. It’s hard for me to sit through singing, with songs I’m unfamiliar with, that do not reach me or make me feel like worshipping God to the fullest. It distracts from my worshipping.

I’ve got yet to figure out just what is wrong with the hymns, considering most of the people we all know - the over-forty generation

or perhaps younger, and the ones gone on, sang and rejoiced in the Lord with those very songs. They still move people today, when they are sung. And it’s a great loss to the younger generation, not learning the hymns of their ancestors.

No matter how much people change, or the church changes, or the music goes beyond what we want, GOD never changes. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever, because

He said so in His Word. He’s there; ready to take us under his wings, whenever we need consoling. His Word and the Holy Spirit is our link with him in our lives, constantly. His Word is our guide, and the Holy Spirit is our teacher.

He always answers prayers; perhaps he doesn’t answer them the way we want or in our time frame, but as someone said today, He always answers, and He is never, ever late!

Most of you reading this column have heard the news by now. Another high profile American has taken his own life with a handgun after shooting his girlfriend, leaving a three month year old baby without a mother or a father.

The young man, a star football player in his prime in the NFL had a huge life in front of him. He had no apparent financial worries, yet he chose to take his life and that of a woman that he allegedly loved.

Somehow he had a gun, a weapon that should not be in the hands of people are not of sound mind. And his act proves that he was not of sound mind. His actions suggest that he was crazy. What kind of demented individual shoots the mother of his three month old child?

Is it his fault? It is certainly not. As long as we live in a country that allows any fools to have a fire arm these types if tragedies will continue to take place.

Those who run the National Rifle Association, the organization that fights any attempt to have sensible gun policies in this country, are probably at home laughing at the action of this young man. They are heartless and could care less that he took his life and the life of his baby’s mother.

During the recent President election the candidates did not serous discuss the question of guns and gun violence. People are afraid to go outside of their homes because nearly every dunce around them is armed.

Now that the election is over and the President does not have to worry about the NRA coming after him, he should begin a national debate on the role of guns in a decent society. We simply do not need them.

If the young football player did not have a gun perhaps he would have slapped her and then she could have taken a frying pan to knock the hell out of him, as she should have. But he had a gun and we know the result.

We need a sensible gun policy before another football player goes off or before another young would be gangster goes berserk on the streets of Dallas.

Another gun-aided murder

Changing Times - Unchanging God

Recently, a young man who was employed as a truck driver was released from a Mexican prison after having spent seven months incarcerated in that country. He had been accused of smuggling ammunition into Mexico.

The young man, a 28 year old father of two, did not know what was being hauled in the truck. Ask any veteran truck driver and they will tell you that they job is to drive their loads, not inspect their loads.

Dallas Attorney Larry

Taylor and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson were the two local individuals who worked to win freedom for the young man, Jabin Bogan. There were others in the faith and political communities who also worked for his release and who deserve praise.

Yet, the prayers of Jabin’s mother, Aletha, were crucial to his being released. She said during a number of interviews that she prayed day and night, night and day for the release of her son. She never stopped praying and she never stopped belieing tht he would be released.

When word came that the intervention of Congresswoman Johnson

and the legal skills of Mr. Taylor had prevailed, Jabin’s mother flew with Atttorney Taylor to get her son. She watched him closely as he was released into the sunlight, after spending seven months in a damn and unwelcoming Mexican jail.

Like Jabin’s mother I believe in the prayer of prayer. I believe that it is necessary during times of despair and during times of delight. This young man was blessed to have a mother who believes in prayer, who believes in him and who believes in God. The faithful knew that her prayers would be answered and that her son would one day be able to walk the streets of Dallas a free man with a bright future.

Rev. A.C. Toney

Dear Dr. Hollie,I am currently working on my second marriage. I am 32 with two kids. My first husband, who I had both kids with before we were married, is no longer in the picture at all. That marriage only lasted about three months before he ran off. So, with this marriage, I called myself going about things the “right way”. We dated for a year and we did not engage in sex at all during our courtship. We fell in love and he was willing to go along with what I wanted, which was waiting until we were married. We are coming up on five months of marriage. And our sexual life is horrible! He is very boring, and very restricted. I don’t want to go into detail, but it’s bad all the time. I do not know how much longer I can

take this. We’ve had conversations about it, and because I don’t want to hurt his feelings, I haven’t told him how much I don’t like it. I just try to make all kinds of suggestions. He is never into anything. And I don’t believe the things I say are that bad. They never involve a third person, at least. Everything else is good, but I know that this will ruin my relationship because I am ready to jump ship as we speak. I know this is a little risqué to be asking a pastor, but I need help, and I am too ashamed to tell anyone else. Don’t you think that this is a deal breaker? I do.

FrustratedDear Frustrated,Before you jump ship or do anything else, you need to consult a sex therapist that can help you with your frustrations; and help guide the two of you with intimacy, function, and desire. Sex therapists can be an integral part of helping couples to obtain or maintain healthy sexual relationships when they can no longer do it on their own. I suggest you seriously consider it.Dr. Hollie is a Pastor and practicing psychotherapist in the city. For questions and comments, please write to [email protected].

It is to our advantage as well as our privilege to enter into our place of prayer with great expectation. No matter where your praying ground is, it should always be your mountain of expectation. I discovered that my mountain of expectation becomes a breeding ground for my miracle. Perhaps you have a condition in your body that concerns you. Well, we should all have a heart to see the sick and the afflicted made whole. It is, after all, God’s will to heal and that was accomplished by the stripes that Jesus bore for each of us. “He was wounded for our transgression, He was bruised for our iniquities; the Chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5.

I once knew a preacher who had retired from the navy. He was a radar technician. His task was to track the presence of Russian submarines off the Atlantic coast of the United States. He said at times there were several of them and his job was to know exactly where they were and what they were doing, if he could find out. He was a watchman.

One of the most important military strategies in any battle is to surprise your enemy. If you can attack at a time or in a way when it is unexpected and he is unprepared, you gain a great advantage.

That is why we spend so much time and money gathering information on potential enemies and their activities. We need to be ready so as not to give the enemy the advantage of a surprise attack. When intelligence breaks down, we have events like Sept. 11th and Pearl Harbor. What we do today with powerful technology was done in Biblical times by placing a watchman in a strategic location so he could sound a warning when an enemy approached. I’m sure there are still times and places where such watchmen are used even today.

God compared Ezekiel’s job as a prophet to that of a watchman. 33:7-9. He was to be given a warning from God and was expected to pass it on to everyone else. The task of the Church and the Christian today is very similar. It is to confront men with the message of God.

Consider the watchman’s task: He had great responsibility. He sat in a high place, possibly a tower on the city wall, especially at night when extra vigilance was needed.

The rest of the city slept. Other defenders would sleep. It was presumed they were safe from surprise attack because of the watchman. He would sound a warning if an enemy approached. If you were sleeping in the city, what kind of man would you want on the tower? Alert, dependable, focused.

What if he does not do his job? What if he was embarrassed to wake people, afraid of hurting their feelings, or

just afraid? People would die. What would we think of a person with such responsibility who failed to do his job? What would we think of someone who allowed thousands of people to die without a warning? The Bible fixes responsibility where it belongs.

If he sounds the warning and is not heeded, then he is not responsible for defeat. But, failure to sound warning makes the watchman accountable for

defeat or death all this seems quite fair and reasonable. It is just God has made us watchmen in our world today: 1st Peter 2:9

We live in a world and even in a nation where most people do not know the True God: It has been estimated that the Church reaches about 25% of the population. I think the figure is smaller. People look for life’s meaning in occult religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Yoga,

witchcraft, Satan worship. America is rapidly approaching the state of affairs in which Israel was addressed in Judges 2:10.

An entire generation of people who know nothing of God. We have a message from God the world needs to hear. Amen! If you would like to receive the entire message please request it at:[email protected]

BNSF Railway paid tribute to the families of the U.S. Military during a special Holiday Express train trip in Fort Worth on Friday, Nov. 30, and

donated a total of $20,000 to two not-for-profit organizations that provide support to military members and their families.

Military families boarded vintage passenger cars decorated in the holiday tradition at the Fort Worth Stock Yards at Main Street and Exchange Avenue, Fort Worth, TX.

The BNSF Foundation also presented $10,000 each to the Navy Marine Corps Relief and the Veterans Coalition of Tarrant County at 6:15 p.m. in front of the Holiday Express.

BNSF’s Holiday Express train is expected to provide rides to more than 3,000 members of military families during its 13-day trip through Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. In all, the BNSF Foundation will donate $110,000 to organizations that offer support to military members and their families. Since the Holiday Express’ inaugural trip five years ago, the BNSF Foundation has donated more than $300,000 to organizations that support the troops and their families. This year, the foundation donated an additional $500,000 to the USO to benefit Operation Enduring Care.

While on board the Holiday Express, families were treated to special holiday snacks, given a commemorative holiday ornament and visited by Santa. Approximately 350 military family

members are expected to take the special ride each day.

BNSF has a rich history supporting the military, reaching back more than 150 years. Since then, its people, its equipment and its tracks have played a critical role in this nation’s defense strategy, helping to carry millions of men and women and countless tons of ammunition, tanks and other equipment to ports for deployment to conflicts around the world.

Since 2005 BNSF has hired more than 5,000 veterans. Today, veterans represent 15 percent of its workforce. Thousands of BNSF employees have been called to active duty on multiple occasions since

September 11, 2001. While deployed, they receive make-whole pay and benefits continuation for themselves and their families. BNSF’s commitment has earned many honors including the prestigious Department Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Freedom Award, and four Seven Seals Awards. BNSF is consistently recognized as a “Top Military Friendly Employer” by G.I Jobs magazine.

The New Year will bring improvements and other changes to Medicare. Here’s a brief rundown of what to expect in 2013.

You’ll get bigger price breaks on brand-name and generic drugs in the “doughnut hole.”

If you have a Medicare drug plan and reach the coverage gap, you’ll receive bigger discounts on your prescriptions – about 53 percent for brand-name drugs in 2013 (compared with 50 percent this past year) and 21 percent for generics (compared with 14 percent in 2012).

The price breaks are adding up. Almost 158,800 Texans with Medicare have saved $103.4 million on their prescriptions in the coverage gap this past year – an average of $651 per person. The discounts will continue to grow each year until the doughnut hole disappears in 2020.

Medicare premiums will increase only slightly. The monthly premium for the part of Medicare that covers doctor visits and outpatient hospital care will increase for most people by only $5, to $104.90, in 2013. The Part B premium has gone up slowly over the past five years – an average of less than 2 percent annually.

The standard premium amount is calculated each year according to a mathematical formula. It takes into account Medicare’s costs the previous

year and the fact that the government pays 75 percent of Part B’s costs while beneficiaries pay the other 25 percent.

A small number of people with Medicare – about 4 percent – pay surcharges on their Part B premiums because their annual incomes are higher than $85,000. They, too, will see only a slight increase in their premiums for physician visits and outpatient services. Medicare deductibles will increase modestly. Besides new premiums, there are new deductibles for 2013. These are the amounts you pay out of pocket each year before Medicare kicks in and covers its share of the bills. The Part B deductible for doctor appointments and other outpatient care will be $147, compared with $140 this past year. The Part A deductible for up to 60 days of inpatient hospital services will increase about 2 percent, from $1,156 in 2012 to $1,184 in 2013. If you’re dissatisfied with your Medicare Advantage plan, you can quit it beginning Jan. 1. If you’re unhappy with your private Medicare Advantage health plan, an annual “disenrollment” period allows you to return to the traditional fee-for-service Medicare program between Jan. 1 and Feb. 14. You can also pick a drug plan to go with your new coverage. A word of caution here: There are a few things you can’t do during the six-week disenrollment period. You can’t switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another. Nor can you switch from the traditional Medicare program to an Advantage plan. Most people will need to wait until the annual enrollment period in the fall to make either of those changes. You’ll pay less for walkers, wheelchairs and other medical equipment. You’re likely to reap hundreds of dollars in savings each year from the new way that Medicare will pay for medical equipment like home hospital beds, walkers and wheelchairs. The reform takes effect in dozens of additional metropolitan areas starting July 1. The government is replacing an outdated fee schedule with a new system that requires equipment suppliers to bid for Medicare’s business. Beneficiaries have enjoyed substantial price reductions in the first nine areas where Medicare has tried competitive bidding. Among the next areas to see lower costs on medical equipment and supplies beginning this summer will be Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, Beaumont-Port Arthur, El Paso, Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission and San Antonio-New Braunfels.

There were nights when 28 year-old Jabin Bogan sat quietly in the Mexican jail cell that held him, weeping and thinking that he would never see his mother, Aletha, again.

Jabin, the father of two sons, had mistakenly crossed into Mexico while driving on an unfamiliar Texas highway and was arrested by Mexican authorities who accused him of carrying contraband. Unknown to Jabin, a truck driver, the covered cargo that his truck was carrying consisted of bullets.

The Mexican authorities were not in a hurry to release Jabin and he spent Thanksgiving confined. But just one day after the holiday, Jabin was told to pack his bags and get ready to be released. He was taken to an American facility where his mother and Dallas Attorney Larry Taylor were waiting to take him home.

“I did not believe that I was finally a free man,” said Jabin who was held by the authorities for seven months. “There

were nine of us in a cell and only five beds. I slept on the floor for five months, and because I do not speak Spanish I could not understand what the other inmates were saying about me. Late at night I listened to them speaking to one another and I did not know if I would see the next morning.”

“It took the intervention of the Obama administration and the tireless efforts of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and members of her staff to get Jabin released,” said Taylor, a partner in the Johnnie Cochran Law Firm. “There were countless others, locally and internationally who worked and prayed so that Jabin could be free. The family is particularly grateful to Gary Bledsoe of the NAACP,

Congressman Silvestre Reyes, Dallas pastors and Bob Lydia of Dallas for all that they did.”

Taylor said that Jabin is not working and that the family exhausted all of its

financial resources trying to get their loved one released.

“He is a fine young man who made a simple mistake. He was unfamiliar with the area and followed the instructions of the police officers

who gave him directions. And like most truck drivers he was unaware of what he was hauling. The manifest saw one thing and the truck contained another.”

Jabin’s mother said that she prayed each night that her son was confined. “I am so grateful to God and to all of those who assisted us while my son was

incarcerated. He can now get on with his life, raise his family and help others.”

Taylor and Jabin’s mother flew to get him. They arrived the day after Thanksgiving and found him joyfully ready to return to his home in Dallas. “The first meal that he ate was at Burger King and then he ate at McDonalds. He was not accustomed to eating Mexican food.

Jabin said that he made a few friends while he was confined. Once a guard slapped him in the face but for the most part he avoided any serious trouble.

“I knew that I would be free,” he said. “That was my prayer request. I am very happy now that God answered my prayers.”

Taylor said that a fund is being created to help Jabin and his family. Those interested in contributing to the fund should call Taylor at 214-651-4260.

There may never be a player like my frat brother Michael Jordan.....ever!!I know what you are saying ... Never is a really long time. But there probably won’t be anyone who can live up to the legacy that Mike carved out in 13 NBA seasons with the Chicago Bulls. For the younger people who are reading this, you must understand that Jordan led the Bulls to a three-peat, retired to play professional baseball, and then returned to win another three-peat.Mike didn’t just win NBA Championships he was also named to 14 All-Star games, won 10 scoring titles, was named First Team All-Defense 9 times and won 2 Slam Dunk contest. MJ won 6 NBA Titles And was named MVP in each of the finals he played in and he won 5 regular-season MVP awards.Get my point??? But since Michael won his last title in 1998, who have been the greatest players in the game who combine talent, impact and accomplishment? Here

are some players to consider!!!!-Allen Iverson- 76ers Iverson never won a title, but there is no denying that the 6’0”point guard was one of the best shooters and slashers of the post -Jordas era,Iverson led the 76ers to the finals in 2000-2001 season, and was named the leagues MVP. He scored 48 points in Game 1 of those finals. Iverson had a unique way of handling the ball and was known for the nasty crossover move. Kevin Garnett CelticsGarnett was the most athletic and nimble high school players the NBA ever drafted !!The big fellow could hit the jumper from the elbow with ease, attack the basket and handle the ball like a guard. He was knocking on the door to the title when he played for the Timberwolves but he never got there.Garnett was traded to the Celtics and along with

Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo Garnett was part if a Championship team. Say what you want Garnett can still get it done. Tim Duncan SpursTim Duncan is a combination of power and finesse in the post, plus he has the versatility of intelligent passing and gifted defense.Duncan has won 4 NBA titles, 3 finals MVP awards,2 regular-

season MVP awards, and he has made 13 All-Star games, 8 All-Defensive awards and he was named Rookie of the year . Tim makes the game look easy. Shaquille O’Neal LakersO’Neal was the most dominant player in the NBA since Michael Jordan. As athletic as he was big, Shaquille is the sixth leading scorer in NBA history.O’Neal played in the finals with 3 franchises. He beat Jordan during his greatest returned to the bulls in 1995. O’Neal lost to the Houston Rockets in the finals

before he won 3 consecutive titles with the Lakers before winning a Title with the Miami Heat. Big Shaquille was unstoppable!!!!-LaBron James HeatThe NBA has never seen a player this complete. No player with LeBron’s size has ever been this athletic. At 27 years of age, his resumes is as follows: an NBA Championship and a Finals MVP, 3 regular seasons MVPs, 8All-Star appearances, a scoring title, 4 All-Defensive honors and Rookie of the Year.Let’s not forget James never played any college basketball. With all due respect to Air Jordan, James could end up the greatest of all times.Kobe Bryant LakersBryant is the best player since Michael Jordan!!Kobe has won 5 NBA title, 2 Finals MVP awards, 1 regular season MVP awards, and 14 All-Star appearances, 2 scoring titles, and 9 All-Defensive awards. Other than being 1title short of Jordan,Bryant could move past Mike on the All-Time points list.Love him or Hate him you can’t deny him, Kobe is a Beast!!!May God Bless You and Help Us Change the World!!!!!Mark A Toliver II

Football season is coming to an end, and most of the metroplex complaining that their Cowboys are going nowhere. I have no idea where they’re going but whereever it is they’ve been on that highway now since 1995.

The weather is beautiful this time of the year get out doors and watch some high school play-offs. Being from Houston I’ve grown accustomed to high school sports because up until this year that’s the only thing in Houston that can win anything. Astros, Rockets, and until this year’s Texan team win something Houston haven’t won nothing since they caught Santa Anna sleep down there at the San Jacinto Battle ground.

The last two weeks I’ve seen Skyline High School play, Saturday I saw the most prepared high school team I.ve ever seen in Dallas or Houston, I played for the legendary Andrew Pat

Patterson at Jack Yates in Houston, played against the legendary Raymond Holley. And up until Saturday revered both as the best we’ve seen in the African American neighborhood, no disrespect to coach Freddie James.

Saturday Coach Reginald Sample and his staff had the Skyline Raiders as prepared in every facet of the game as any team I’ve ever seen. I started being involved in football in 1951, so this was not my first rodeo. I’ve seen the championship teams with the 18 division one player from Carter, Yates, Kimball, SOC, Lincoln, etc Duane Thomas, Abner Haynes,John Jefferson, Quick Draw McGraw, do I have to keep naming them .

I’ve seen championship teams that couldn’t kick extra points, let along field goals,I’ve seen them have to go for it 4th and 15in their own end of the field, because they couldn’t punt

effectively.When Skyline needed

to do anything they we’re prepared and did it, Punt, field goal, kick offs whatever And looked well coached doing it.

The offense never looked confused or inept, then why would they with Ty Barret, Kelvin Coleman, Jonathan Reyna Deshawn Lewis Dominique Woods. The best offensive line I’ve seen in a while technique look like the play on Sundays.

Most good or great coaches say football has 3 phases, offense, defense, and special teams and win any two phases you more than likely win the game. Some teams are not even capable of playing all three phases; word of advice if you can’t play all three and do it effectively Skyline isn’t the team you want to play. I know Luck doesn’t have anything to do with it but GOOD LUCK RAIDERS!!!!!!

If someone is seeking a top paying job or plan to run for public office you had better start taking care of business to day. Take a look at real life, you can not trust your best friend this day and time they will reveal your best kept secret just to get ahead. This year has got to be a wake up call for all of us, look at all that has gone on during the last election everybody seem to be holding a trump

card, they tired it on the President. We as a race have got to start working on our future, working with our children teaching them to do the right thing, stay out of trouble, pay your bills and try to be honest in all that you do. Look at some of our young people of to day, they don’t know where they are headed because no one taught them to look at where you came

from, you must have a starting point to be successful at all thing. We send them off to school each and every day, give them five dollars for lunchand a five hundred dollar computer, but we don’t know if they had lunch or who they talked to on the Internet, wake up people. Ray Williams

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings’ mother, Nelda Faye Meador Rawlings Moore, died Sunday. She was 80.

A retired schoolteacher, she had spent the last few months of her life in Dallas after she received a cancer diagnosis and moved from Bethany, Okla.

Her funeral will be Wednesday at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, and she will be buried at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Born in Abernathy, near Lubbock, in 1932, she graduated from high school in Borger, near Amarillo, in 1949.

After graduating

from Frank Phillips College in Borger in 1951, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany and a master’s of education degree from Minnesota State University in 1973.

For 40 years, she was a public school teacher in Texas, New Mexico, New York and Oklahoma before she retired in 1993.

In 1953, she married Elden

Rawlings, and they had two sons, Mr. Rawlings and Stephen Mark Rawlings, now deceased. In 1993, she wed Ray Moore.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, for which she taught Sunday school, served as a youth leader and participated in senior ministries.

Besides Mr. Rawlings, her survivors include three stepchildren, four grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to The Bridge homeless shelter, P.O. Box 710100, Dallas, Texas 75371-0100, or online at bridge northtexas.org.

ROLLIN WITH A

BROTHA

Welcome to the weekend baaaby! Happy Holidays, everybody. It’s Christmas time and that means office Christmas parties galore. I’ve been invited to two and will be attending both this week. If you go to your’s or the spouses, whatever you do, don’t cross the “Christmas Line”! The key of really, really enjoying a Christmas party with co-workers is to always r e m e m b e r , “Don’t do anything that everybody will remember” , lo l ! If somebody tells you about something you did the following week, but you don’t recall, you’ve crossed the Christmas line! Looks like we’ve made it to Kwaanza Fest. When I think of this celebration, it makes me think of County Commissioner John Wiley Price, one of its founders. Just wondering (as I have not heard much after the FBI bum rushed him), how this brotha that I’ve always liked and admired is doing? This Sunday at Fair Parks Automobile building, R&B artists Johhny Gill and Avant, highlight a day of family fun. Kwanzaa Fest lasts from 11am-6pm. See ya after church! That said, I’m trying to debate if I wanna see Mary J. Blige again. The Queen of Hip Hop and R&B singer Brandy are at the American Airlines Center this Sunday evening. NBA player and Dallas native Chris Bosh is smiling this holiday season. Bosh’s Texas residency has been upheld in his child support/baby momma case. Bosh who has a 3 year old daughter out of wedlock

pays 2600 dollars a month in child support and has since married a woman other than

his (Baby Momma). They reside in his 13 million dollar Miami mansion. If Bosh had been determined to

be a Florida resident, he’d be paying about 30,000 a month, instead of paltry Texas rates. Just keeping it real, come on Chris Bosh, $2600 might be a lot to my baby’s mother,

but... Prayer’s for Diana Ross, who’s healing from a broken ankle. Ms. Ross suffered the accident after performing in India for Super Model Naomi C a m p b e l l ’ s

B i l l i o n a i r e boyfriends birthday

party! Comedian Katt Williams has announced his retirement from Stand Up Comedy! Williams who was recently arrested 3 times in three days during a vacation getaway to Seattle says he’s simply had enough. Williams remains in Seattle and says he’s planning to file a Fifty Million Dollar lawsuit against the city for “improper” treatment!!! Who’s the richest woman of color as we wind down in 2012? Oprah Winfrey? Nawwww, but good guess. It’s Nigerian fashion designer and oil tycoon Folorunsho Alakija, who is worth an estimated $3.3 billion. That’s $500 million richer than Winfrey, whose wealth Forbes magazine estimated at $2.7 billion in September. Now, how you doin’? Happy Birthday to YOU and celebs this week: Little Richard Penniman 80, Max “Jethro Bodine Clampett” Baer 75, Jay-Z 44, Tyra Banks 39, and Brittney Spears is 31. Thanks for Rollin With A Brotha in the Elite News!
