TIDEWATER DISTRICT VPPA ! VOL. 18, #13!

Greetings From Your New Lieutenant Governor Erin L. Clark

Are  you  ready  for  the  Holidays?  It’s  hard  to  believe  that  we  are  just  under  4  weeks  awayfrom  2014.  Where  has  the  year  gone?  What  has  happened  in  your  business  the  pastyear?  What  will  change  or  stay  the  same  for  next  year?

For  me,  there’s  been  tons  of  changes  -‐  from  my  youngest  graduating  from  high  school  tomy  husband  retiring  after  24  years  in  the  Navy-‐  to  ME  making  the  leap  into  a  big  newstudio  after  restarting  my  business  3  times  -‐  we’ve  opened  up  a  commercial  location  forE-‐n-‐E  Photography,  Inc.  You  all  will  have  a  chance  to  check  it  out  -‐  as  Lt.  Governor  I  get  to  schedule  all  your  monthly  meetings  and  speakers,  and  I  plan  to  host  a  few  of  those  meeting  at  the  studio.

The  line  up  is  looking  great,  It  will  start  with  January’s  guest  speaker,  Award-‐WinningLisa  Carter.  Cr  Photog,  CPP  -‐  with  a  one  day  workshop  on  Jan.  20th.  The  demonstration  will  be  during  the  day,  and  if  we  get  enough  interest  to  cover  her  costs,  the  cost  will  be  minimal  for  the  workshop.  If  you  can’t  make  the  day  workshop,  you’ll  get  to  hear  her  at  our  meeting  that  night.

February  is  our  Convention-‐  Are  you  thinking  about  Competition?  Tidewater  needs  torepresent  with  most  awards!  If  you’ve  never  competed,  think  about  making  this  yearyour  Tirst.  We  have  plenty  of  members  in  our  district  you  can  reach  out  to  for  feedbackon  what  has  the  best  potential  for  meriting.  So  if  you  haven’t  already,  try  to  set  thoseimages  you  feel  strongest  about  -‐

there  is  a  good  chance,  you  already  have  a  blue  ribbon  winner!

We  have  a  Facebook  page!  If  you  haven’t  joined  it,  please  take  a  moment  to  do  so  nowhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/twdistrictvppa/    it’s  only  for  current  members  of  Tidewater  VPPA  -‐  you  are  welcome  to  share  your  images  there  to  get  feedback  or  post  questions,  or  maybe  Tind  a  person  to  carpool  with  to  our  next  event.

HOLIDAY  PARTY!!  December  9th  is  our  event,  7pm  in  Virginia  Beach.  We  actually  have  a  choice  of  three  different  spots,  but  it’s  looking  like  Italian  at  Manninos  off  PleasureHouse  Road.  If  you  have  an  opinion  on  where  we  can  go  to  eat,  make  sure  to  log  your  voteon  our  Facebook  page.

We’ll  be  doing  a  White  Elephant  exchange  again!  Let’s  see  who  get  the  funkiest  gift  thisyear!  Make  sure  to  bring  a  wrapped  gift  to  join  in  the  fun,  valued  approximately  at$15  (Remember-‐  the  point  of  the  White  Elephant  is  usually  to  entertain  rather  than  to  gain,  so  the  sillier  or  kookier  the  better!)

Looking  forward  to  seeing  you  all  at  the  Holiday  dinner!  If  we  don’t  see  you,  have  a  very  Merry  &  Safe  Holiday.

Erin  Clark,Lieutenant  Governor

TIDEWATER DISTRICT VPPA VOL. 18, #13

!

Dear Fellow VPPA Members,

I want to make you aware of some exciting educational opportunities with special incentives coming up in 2014. My Awake The Light Photo Workshops and Tours company will be holding two workshops in Richmond this spring.

LIGHTROOM UNLEASHED is an in-depth hands-on Lightroom 5 workshop to be held March 16 - 20. This will be three days of intensive Lightroom instruction designed to significantly improve your skills, increase your understanding of how Lightroom REALLY works, provide some creative tips, and get rid of bad habits (that we ALL have when working in Lightroom). Details here http://awakethelight.com/lightroom-2014/

BUTTERFLY FLUTTERBY will immerse you in butterfly action at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens on May 27 - 29. This wonderful facility is photographer friendly and provides a wide variety of butterfly species. Personalized attention throughout both days. Details here http://awakethelight.com/butterfly-workshop/

As a long-time member of the VPPA, I'm pleased to offer a special incentive to any VPPA members who take either of these workshops. A portion of your fee will go back to your own District to help fund its programs, and another portion will go to the VPPA to help defray the cost of the convention and other expenses. So you can help your District, help your state, and get some great education in the process. PLUS there is an Early Bird discount if you register for the Lightroom workshop before January 15.

All Awake The Light photo workshops are known for the high level of education provided. You will receive group instruction, plus extensive personal attention whether it is in the classroom or in the field. The goal is for you to go home at the end of any of our workshops with much more knowledge, greater skill, more confidence, and expanded creativity than you started with.

If you have questions or wish to register, email me at [email protected], or call 757-773-0194. I hope to see you in Richmond!

Best regards,Mollie Isaacs

Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!
