The Nativity-The Great Mystery of the Incarnation "Christ is Born! Glorify Him! Christ is from heaven, go to meet Him. Christ is on earth, be lifted up. "Sing to the Lord, all the earth," and say together, "Let the heavens be glad and let the earth rejoice," for the heavenly one is now earthly. Christ is in the flesh, exalt with trembling and joy; trembling because of sin, rejoicing because of hope. Christ comes from the Virgin. Who would not worship the one "from the beginning"? Who would not glorify the last'? The fleshless one takes flesh, the Word is made coarse, the invisible one is seen, the impalpable one is touched, the timeless one makes a beginning, the Son of God becomes the Son of Man, "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and for all ages." (St. Gregory the Theologian)
Meditation-Why did He come? Christmas means that there are two births of Christ: one in the world at Bethlehem; the other in the soul when it is spiritually reborn. Through the Holy Mysteries of Baptism and the Eucharist, Christ is born in the second Bethlehem, that is, our hearts and our minds, our souls and bodies. He that is the pre-eternal god becomes a new-born babe that we might be converted and becomes babes in Christ. The Only-Begotten Word of God, one of the Trinity becomes man that man might become a "communicant of the Divine Nature" through theosis. The dark cave of dumb beasts in Bethlehem becomes heaven and is filled with the unwaning, uncreated light of Divinity. Christ is born so that our dark souls may be filled with light; for do we not invite the Divine Son of God to come and dwell in us when we pray in the Pre-Communion prayers; 'For even as You willed to lie in a cave and in a manger of irrational beasts, so also grant to lie in the manger of my irrational soul and to enter my deified body.' If He was born in the first Bethlehem, it was only that He might come and be born in the second Bethlehem-your soul and mine. (Anonymous) "My thoughts now turn to the Mother of Mercy. Chosen to be the Mother of God, Mary from the outset, was prepared by the love of God to be the Ark of the Covenant between God and man. Слова ось цієї народної колядки, що прославляє Христа Господа, який приходить на світ, є нам досить добре знані. Вони на перший погляд є простими до зрозуміння, проте поряд з тим криють у собі основну суть євангельського послання, яким є заклик до радості - радості з того, що Бог приходить до нас. Християнські гимнографи, беручи за привід слова ангела, який звіщав пастушкам «велику радість, котра буде відома усім людям» (Лк 2,10) самого Христа Спасителя називають «нашою Радістю». Через це тема радості є фундаментальною темою Різдвяних Свят. Коли заглянемо до богонатхненних книг Святого Письма, можемо зауважити, що темі радості вони присвячують немало уваги. Богонатхненні автори розповідають про різні її форми, проте постійно наголошують на тому, що її основою завжди є Господь. Саме у присутності Бога у житті всесвіту і поодинокої людини вони вбачали першу причину радості. І так, старозавітній пророк Ісая, розповідаючи про визволення Ізраїля з Єпипетської неволі, вкладає в уста визволенця ось такі слова: «Ось Бог – моє спасіння! Я уповаю і не боюся, бо Господь моя сила й моя пісня, він – моє спасіння! Ви будете з радістю черпати воду з джерел спасіння» (Іс 12,2-3). Рівно ж і Апостол Петро, заохочуючи адресатів свого Листа до витривання у вірі у часі переслідувань просить їх радіти з того, що вони є спасенні, «навіть, якщо тепер треба трохи посумувати у різних досвідах, щоб ваша випробувана віра (…) була на похвалу (…) під час об’явлення Ісуса Христа» (І Пт 1,6-7). Закликом до радості Господь приготовляє і свій прихід на землю, оскільки у хвилю Благовіщення через свого Архангела звертається до Богородиці словами: «Радуйся, благодатна, Господь з тобою!» (Лк 1,28). Ось цих кількох біблійних прикладів вистачає, щоб зрозуміти, що радість, це - чеснота, яка є споріднена з вірою та є немовби лакмусовим папірцем, який показує, чи бачить людина у своєму житті Божу присутність, іншими словами, дотик Божої руки. Радість не втрачає актуальності і у наш час. Тільки, як парадоксально не виглядало б, вона щораз то менше займає простору у нашому щоденному житті. Зауважмо, місце радості, усмішки та доброго слова займають досить часто почуття самотності, сум та брак надії на майбутнє. «З нами Бог, зрозумійте народи»! У цих словах, які співатимемо на Великому Повечерії з нагоди Різдва Христового криється основний зміст цього так величного Свята. З цієї нагоди хочу побажати усім і кожному глибокого усвідомлення того, що «З нами Бог»! І нехай ця свідомість стане причиною нашої щоденної радості та спонукає до переміни власного життя та життя нашого народу!

The OLPH Sodality thanks everyone who
attended the annual Christmas party. It was great
to get together and celebrate the birth of our Lord.
It was wonderful to see and meet new people. We
are hoping more will join us for the next year.
A special thank you goes out to the Knights
of Columbus for providing our party with spirits,
refreshments and bartenders.
We collected $512 from our gift raffle. We
are donating $250 towards new vestments for the
priests, $212 towards the church energy fund and
$50 will be held for the 2016 Thanksgiving Dinner
for the poor.

our church, nothing would happen without you.
