Welcoming Charles!A NOTEFROM

CHARLES

Hi. My name is Charles Maltzman and I am writing to introduce myself as the new Director of Camp Lindenmere. Mitch and I share a deep belief that a positive camp experience can instill a sense of caring, self confi dence and sense of community for everybody involved. Our commitment to

providing a quality camp experience will ensure that as we move forward, Lindenmere will remain warm, caring and steeped in tradition.

My love for camp comes from the many years I spent as a camper, counselor and administrator at various camps. I haven’t missed a summer at camp since I was three! Having spent twenty consecutive summers at highly successful resident camps in New York and Maine, I have done most jobs including; Athletic Director, Evening Program Director, Head Counselor and Associate Director. I was lucky enough to spend the past six summers as the Director of prestigious day camps in New Jersey. This experience reinforced my belief in partnering with parents to make certain a terrifi c camp experience for

everybody in the family. While day camp is phenomenal, I always wanted to venture back to my resident camp roots where deep bonds form between friends and lasting memories are made all throughout the day and night.

My entire life has been tremen-dously infl uenced by my camp experiences. Camp is a place where children are exposed to friendships, new activities and challenges in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment. I have volunteered my time to the American Camp Association to try and help improve camps and camp programs everywhere. After spending nine years on the Program and Steering Committee, I just fi nished serving as Program Chairman of the Tri-State Camp Conference for Youth Development - the nation’s largest professional camp conference. I am also a standards visitor for ACA, visiting other camps to determine their compliance with rules and regulations. My wife Lori and I are very excited to be joining such a wonderful camp and look forward to meeting everybody at the Fall Foliage weekend and at the Winter Reunions!

Most campers, who participated in skateboarding this summer, noticed

the addition of a new mini-ramp and fun box. We hope everybody enjoyed the newest additions to our facility. We are currently in the process of designing a new street area to be part of the skatepark. This will consist of an addition to the current fun box, new wider bank ramps with decks and railings, a quarter pipe and newer curb boxes. The goal is to provide a more user friendly skatepark for everyone from the pure beginner to the seasoned expert.

Skateboarding with MIKE D. will return this summer again as a minor. We are looking into better fi tting pads for the younger campers and upgrading the camp skateboard quiver to newer gear. Anyone interested in the skatepark programs should defi nitely let us know at the major/minor fair at the start of each session. We look forward to seeing you all again next summer and having good times at the skatepark.

What a great summer we had! I just wanted to thank everyone for making this summer so special. I had such a great time that I just have

not left yet! I have stayed on working with Chuck and Peter helping them with all of the new

projects for next year. Staying on camp has brought so many smiles to my face reminiscing

about the good times we

had. All of the great ultimate frisbee games, after curfew canteen hangouts, chillin’ in B10 (what’s up boys), and all of the great evening activities make me wish camp started tomorrow. Unfortunately it does not, and I am heading back to Colorado for the winter, but the days are counting down. We can all look forward to fall foliage and the winter reunions. It will be a great time to meet new campers and reminisce with the old campers. I hope to see everyone at Fall Foliage, the winter reunions and next summer at camp.

Art Wordsby Sue

We had SO MUCH FUN in the Art House this past summer! All of the studios were

buzzing with creative campers making awesome, imaginative projects. But they weren’t just doing great artwork IN the house. This past summer campers and counselors were also doing incredible artwork ON the house!

Sure, in every single room, on every single day, there were totally amazing projects being made. Like the alien heads in Ceramics, or the safety pin bracelets in Jewelry. There were banners with camp photos on them in Heat Press, and a giant puzzle painting in Drawing and Painting, where everyone painted a piece of a puzzle and then “did” the puzzle to see what it looked like put together. In Crafts, campers made fuzzy pom-pom dolls, in Knitting, the “Knit-Wit Club” made warm, cozy scarves. In Stained Glass, campers created beautiful light catching mobiles. Tie-Dye-ers made brilliantly colored shirts and Candle Makersmade nature candles that had tree bark or leaves or twigs from camp right in them! Everyday, campers made cool art IN the house. But they were also busy making cool art ON the house!

This past summer, campers sculpted ceramic leaf tiles that were glued to the archway by the clay workroom. When every leaf was on the wall, a

Exciting Projects in Store for 2008beautiful mosaic tree emerged. It is now a spectacular permanent installation in our Art House. In the drawing and painting studio, two fl oor to ceiling wall muralswere painted. One, a wall fi lled with colorful squares, was designed to act as “frames” for all of the artwork completed in that room. And the wooden benches on our big, breezy front porch were painted by campers this summer, too. Now when you sit on one of them it feels like you are sitting right in the middle of a painting!

The art projects made last summer got packed up in trunks with shorts and t-shirts and fl ip-fl ops -- and they will be warm reminders of camp during the long school year. But some art was left behind, right ON the Art House -- and that is a warm reminder too, of the wonderful campers who fi lled camp and made it so, so special.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Summer, 2008!

DETAILSFROMDANI

As the leaves begin to turn colors and fall to the ground, it is hard to believe that our

summer went by so fast. While camp is quiet and peaceful it always looks a little lonely without all of you. We miss our campers and staff running, cheering, playing and laughing. I have all of you to thank for the best summer of my life. Pudding wrestling, pie eating contests and laughing in canteen at night are just a few memories that will last forever.

We are now settled into our winter offi ce and we are already planning for 2008! We are thrilled that re-enrollment is breaking all kinds of records! It is going to be great to spend next summer with so many familiar faces and many new ones!

Charles and I have been hard at work planning new activities, meeting new families and

plotting our 2008 Color War break! He is full of great ideas and his endless enthusiasm and love of camp will be a perfect match with Lindenmere. I know you will welcome him to our community the same way you welcomed me. This is what makes Lindenmere so special. Our campers, parents and staff have a remarkable way of making everyone feel like a part of our camp family. Whether it is rookie weekend, welcoming new campers into the bunks, or cheering for the opposite team during color war, there is never a shortage of warmth at camp.

I hope everyone is having a great school year so far. Bari and Harrison miss camp so much and cannot wait to see all of you at the fall foliage day and winter reunion. I look forward to seeing all of you soon, until then keep those camp memories in your heart as I do…

Greetings from New Jersey

WHAT’S UPWITH

CHUCK

Hi Everyone! My name is Milly and I have been working with Mitch for the past nineteen years. Over this period of time my boys have grown up and I now have a wonderful granddaughter, Chloe, who cannot wait for her fi rst summer at camp!

While spending time at camp last summer, I was amazed by the variety of activities and I was constantly impressed by all of your

accomplishments. Most importantly, I was touched by all of the smiles and laughter that I saw all around camp.

As the voice of the Florida offi ce, I look forward to speaking with all of you and meeting you next summer.

A Message from Milly!

Hello! I would like to start out telling everybody what a great summer I had.

I made a lot of new friends and spent some time with my old and dear friends. I had the opportunity to do a lot of new things including my fi rst trip to Camel Beach in the nine years I worked at camp! 2007 was one of the best summers I have ever had.

Working and becoming friends with Mitch, Odie, Mike and Dani, as well as both new and returning campers and staff has been a pleasure.

While camp has been over for two months now, I can still hear the echo of all your voices. Although camp is quiet and I am a bit sad now, I know soon enough you will all be back and Lindenmere will be alive again.

I am really excited about the changes that will happen on camp over the winter. We have started “Operation Enhancement and Beautifi cation”. Myself, Peter and the crew have planted 450 trees along the front of camp. It looks amazing!!! Most of the paths throughout camp will be paved before the summer and when you are not on the paved paths, you will be playing on our newly seeded grass all over camp. We are also fi nishing the transformation of the old camper offi ce and infi rmary into new camper bunks. When you get thirsty, you can use the new water fountains we are installing around camp. As you can tell, I am keeping very busy counting down the days until summer 2008! See you all at Fall Foliage!

Milly
