The Story Behind ...

One sunny afternoon, we met this old lady on our way to do some banking transactions. Everyone had to take the staircase as the bank was renovating its premise.

Fernie (the writer) helped the old lady who seems to be having difficulties to climb the staircase with her crutch.

After the banking session, we had a small chat with the old lady. We asked her: “Who fetch you here? Your children?”

Out of our expect, she replied：

”They are all dead, I came with a cab.”

We get to know her better after a small chat. She was in her 90s.

She has 6 children, considered middle class family. However, since her spouse passed away and the children got their share of the family wealth, she was sent to an old folk homes. She had to lead a lonely and sad live thereafter.

She had to pay for her own expenses, and that’s the reason why we met her at the bank.

The “room” she is staying can barely hold a single bed with a chair, yet the charges is RM1400 / month.

Simple setting, normal services, yet expensive.



We asked ourselves：

How many people are struggling, just to keep on living?

What can we do？

After I made a commitment to raise the public awareness on ignored elderly in October 2014, I published the book ‘Declining Years’ in May 2015. I received a lot of good response and encouragement, which gave me more confident to continue the journey.

I am just a normal person. My ability may be limited. I am just following my destiny to become the person whom I meant to be. I try to influence others positively, bringing more positive energy to the world, step by step. I met more angels along the way, who joined and helped in promoting this good social cause.
