Year Power Activities

1964 250 kW Reached first criticality

1971 1000 kW First time modified

2000 2000 kW Second time modified

History of Bandung TRIGA reactor (2)

Year Power Activities

2011 - Reactor operating license suspended by Regulatory Body because of technical issues related to fuel burn-up (FFCRs) and seismic hazard.

2013 - Prepared a decommissioning plan, proposed IAEA TC programs to get expert mission assistance.

2014- 2015

- Experts mission, in helping to prepare the decommissioning plan documents

2015 - Replaced of two FFCRs and reinforced of the reactor building

2016 1000 kW Bandung TRIGA research reactor operates

Map location of the Bandung TRIGA reactor

The Bandung TRIGA reactor is located in (A) building

In the preparation of decommissioning plan we have two options

OPTION 1

oAll System, Structure and Component (SSCs) inside and outside the reactor building are dismantled, except the reactor building.

o In addition, all laboratories supporting like hot cells and laboratories for the production of radioisotopes is not dismantled.

OPTION 2.

oAll SSCs inside the reactor tank are removed, but a part of the reactor tank, reactor shield is not dismantled.

o So in the long term, the Bandung TRIGA reactor building can be used as reactor museum.

Only the cross hatched red part needed to be disposed of as radioactive waste

Stages of characterization

Drawing of SSCs of the reactor

Identify building and room of facilities according to decommissioning scope

Identify contaminated & non-contaminated areas according to the controlled area definition

Determine quantities of various materials (carbon, SS steel, concrete, hazardous...)

Inventory of material radioactivity
