    DECT Data ApplicationsAvailable Today !

    EMN/B/P Huub Appelboom

This slide shows the increasing importance of wireless and data services in our worldWireless data applications can be attractive to in several forms, depending on what people they are doing and where they areIn the world around you, you can find not only different kinds of applications, but also different requirements with respect to the User Interface Capabilities and Mobility. As a results, we will see different kinds of wireless data terminals, each designed to match a particular end-user need and because of different requirements with respect to mobility, and because information bit-rate at a given mobility equals to an increase of costs, we will see different radio technologies existing in parallel to match different application scenarios. DECT will play an important role in several of these scenarios.DECTs main role for providing data services will be in the local areaIn the home environment, the main selling point for DECT Data are avoidance of cable installation, and to provide home area mobility for data terminalsThe most important application in the home area will be mobile internet access, followed by cable replacement applications and sharing of network resources like for example a printer by multiple usersAbove is an example scenario for the home.In the enterprise environment, we see a lot of different applications , each with their own specific requirementsThe common factor between these different applications for the Enterprise are listed on this sheetBy using one interoperable radio technology standard (DECT), these applications can be developed cost efficiently. In addition DECT data provides some other benefits which make it really attractive to use for wireless data applications in the business environment. For WLL applications (operators), the main application is internet access for consumers/SOHOThis picture shows two main DECT markets today (the 3rd major market is WLL).Whereas the home market is driven by large volumes, it also has much lower price compared to the enterprise market. This results of course in different requirements for the data technology, but both areas can be fulfilled by DECT data technologyThis slide show the market size of home internet users. Main category is still analog, followed by ISDN. Both can be addressed by DECT radio technology for wireless data applications. In the enterprise environment, there is already a mass market trend visible for on-site wireless data (mainly in USA). This will spread to other parts of the world in the coming yearsDECT provides an interoperable air-interface, which results in 6 key benefits for end-users, distributors, and manufacturers. The main DECT standard for high speed data applications is the DPRSIt provides a toolbox that can cater for a large variety of applications, and yet provides one unified interoperable technology platform.Specific extensions exist to cater for different application needs, like DMAPDECT also provides data standards for connection oriented data services, at lower speedsDECT also provides facilities for low speed SMS messaging, which can be incorporated in GAP handsets, and which provides a migration path to fixed-mobile convergenceThis slide shows the continuous evolution of DECT Data Standards and technologyThese two slide summarize the benefits of DECT data technology. By stressing these points sufficiently, the visitor will realize that DECT is indeed a very strong and important technology for cordless data applicationsThis is the 2nd slide of the two slides that summarize the benefits of DECT data technologyOne recent trend is that DECT is now also incorporated in the WAP standard as an official bearer for WAP servicesAnother trend is that in the data world, interface standards are changing. Because DECT is such a flexible technology, the DPRS can be extended to new standards like USBThis sheets summarizes the main conclusions of the presentation. At this point you can summarize the main issues you discussed with the visitorThis is the last slide. The key message of the whole presentation is that DECT Data technology is available commercially today, and with more and more DECT data products coming on the market. At this point you can point to the glass box to show some examples of data products, and give people reference points they can visits at CEBIT to take a more detailed look at the products
