By the time this report goes to print, our new wokshop should be erected. The complete shed kit is now on site waiting to go up.

The Austin 7 National Rally is on the week before easter and it is based at our clubrooms. They have approx 125 entrants and I urge you to come and have a look. Ann Cox is in charge of catering for some of the events and your help would be appreciated.

Judy and myself will be away from Easter Saturday for about four weeks. Harry Brazier will be available to sort any building problems that may arise.

FEBRUARY’S LADIES RUN:CLIFTON & THE CAN DO COTTAGEThe Ladies Run, on Sunday 26th February, started with an impressive 44 cars, 85 adults, and 7 children, taking part in the run to Clifton. Len Kennedy had a small issue with his Model A (the blue one), which tricked a few club members who mistook them for new members, as the Blue Model A rarely goes on club runs. It didn’t take long for Len to diagnose the problem, and they soon caught up to the rest of us.

Morning Tea was in the park at the end of the Main Street in Clifton. After morning tea we had a walk around Clifton and were very impressed with their old buildings and churches with stained glass windows.

Then it was off to the “Can Do Cottage” with Eleanor McGoven for lunch. We met the Bazley Family and saw fi rst-hand where our donation was going. The “Can-Do” Cottage is a very good cause, and one that the club is proud to be supporting.

The winner of the Ladies Run was Michael and Lorrie Robinson (FE Holden), with the runners up being Len Cooling (Ford Zephyr).

The judging was done in secret by measuring the position of the valve stem on the drivers front wheel in relation to the top of the wheel when we stopped for morning tea.

The Robinsons will have their names engraved on the Ladies Run Trophy which will be kept in the clubhouse.

SWAP APPRECIATION DINNERThe Swap Appreciation Dinner was held on Saturday 25 February. The dinner was well attended, with 100 people who enjoyed a good meal, and some great entertainment courtesy of new member Greg Bird who took to the stage providing the music for the night.

It was a lovely, relaxed evening; an excellent reward for those who put in the hard yards, working on the Swap.

During this time, he continued his love of box-ing and was an international referee at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

He also built a large shed on a church property in Herries St and a series of projects were completed there over the next 20 years. These included a 39 Dodge sedan, a 24 Buick tourer, a straight 8 Hupmobile (early to mid-twenties) roadster and a 1933 or 34 Hupmo-bile sedan. He also purchased a 1915 Hupmo-bile, another 33 Hupmobile sedan, a similar vintage Nash and a late forties Jag.He was appointed to Warwick in the early nineties and travelled to Toowoomba each Wednesday to spend the day at the Sheeran shed. During this time, he became a member of the Warwick club.

At age 70, he retired and bought a property in Campbell St West where he constructed a number of sheds to accommodate his wonder-ful collection of restored vehicles.

In his later years, he developed sight problems and fi nally took up residence at Lourdes Home after the onset of dementia.

He died on 6th March, 2017.

VALE: FATHER TOM SHEERAN

Tom was born in 1934 in Victoria. During his education, he developed a love of sport, boxing in particular.

On completing school, he worked in a bank for a year and then decided to become a Catholic priest. His early training was at a seminary in Victoria but he had a break for a period of time before completing his course of study at the Banyo Semi-nary in Queensland.

His fi rst appointment was at St Patricks Cathedral in Toowoomba and dur-ing this time he acquired an A Ford and began his passion for old cars.

After a couple of years, he was sent to Cun-namulla. He spent much of his time working with youth particularly indigenous young men teaching them the fi ner points of box-ing. He did similar work during his time at Mitchell in the seventies.

Here he discovered old cars again and acquired his model R Hupmobile which he brought to Toowoomba when he was appointed Parish Priest at St Pats in the early eighties. In the 10 years at St Pats he completed the Hup and joined the DDVVMC.

HMCCQ CROWS NEST

Jeff Cox & I joined the Toowoomba branch of the HMCCQ for a ride out to Crows Nest for their launch of the town as a motorcycle friendly town. Only the 2nd in Qld & the 4th in Aust.

Lots of other clubs/groups were there. Particularly impressed by the 85 year old who came on the yellow Can-Am Spyder.

The 3 wheelers are a great alternative when age & the knees go.

MARCH MYSTERY RUN

On March 19, we headed out to Westbrook to see Allan and Jenny Pederson’s collection of Valiants, motorbikes and dolls. Also it was great to see Wyn Baker on a rally, with Clyde & Maree.

We went via Euston Rd & the quarry to Westbrook, then to Wellcamp & onto the Cecil Plains road to Aubigny, then across to Oakey for lunch at the RSL.

Harry was a good sport and modelled Denise’s latest handbag, after the shed run to his place introduced us to “Harry’s handbag”.
