UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP
BREAKING NEWS — Are you ready? There will be a sale this week only at Uncle Al’s, a sale like no other sale that
has ever been held! On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, every item in the shop (with the exception of
jewelry) is one-half price! Yes that’s not only clothing, but items in every area of the shop. Those beautiful dishes
you saw, the set of silverware, crystal pieces, unique one-of-a-kind items — all one-half price.
Why is Uncle Al’s having this sale? Well, we are receiving wonderful donations, so many that the shop is running
out of space. And this is a way to show our gratitude to our fellow parishioners and friends in the community who
patronize and support Uncle Al’s.
You don’t want to miss this 4-day sale Nov. 16, 18, 20 & 21. That’s this week — everything in the shop (except
jewelry) one-half price!
All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.
Dear Parishioners,
I know that we’re only halfway through November, but we have plenty of great things planned as
Advent approaches here at St. Joseph’s. Be sure to get some of these wonderful opportunities on your
calendar.
On Tuesday, December 1st, our Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a Light Up for Christ prayer
service in our church at 7:00pm. I can think of no better way for our families to begin consecrating this
month to the Holy Family — Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! Come and join us to start the month off right.
We will then be having a Novena in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe from December 3rd through the
11th. The novena will consist of a rosary and novena prayers in English y español at 6:00pm every
evening. This will culminate with our celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day on December
12th with Las Mañanitas prayers at 6:30am and a special Mass in Spanish at noon.
Finally, Uncle Al’s Thrift Shop is getting ready for its Christmas Sale, which will be held December 3rd to
5th. Please come shop and also help out as a volunteer! Uncle Al’s is a huge fundraiser for our Parish,
but the ladies who run it could use a lot more help. Please contact them to see what you can do to help
with this great service in our community.
To Jesus through Mary,
Fr. Bancroft
PLEASE NOTE: The Rectory Office will be closed this Tuesday and Wednesday,
November 17 and 18 due to work being done in the Rectory. We will reopen on
Thursday, November 19.

World Day of the Poor
Month of the Faithful Departed
Dear friends in the Lord:
Thanksgiving is the time of the year when we, as individuals, families, a nation and faith communities come
together to give thanks to the Lord for the many blessings He has given us. It is also the time when we look to give
something back to those in need. For over a century, Catholic Charities has been serving all New Yorkers in need
by providing a range of services that provide help and create hope for the most vulnerable among us, Catholics
and non-Catholics alike.
Beginning in 2017 with the centennial of Catholic Charities, I was pleased to inaugurate the Catholic Charities
Campaign for Charity and Justice. This is not a new collection. It is a replacement for the Catholic Campaign for
Human Development. It provides an important opportunity to reinforce the engaging acts of charity and justice
being done in our own parishes which are so essential for living out our Catholic faith. A key feature is that a
significant portion of the funds raised will provide a number of seek grants to our parishes. I am happy to share
that, due to your characteristic generosity, more than 25 parishes and community-based works of charity across
the archdiocese were able to receive grants to serve our neediest neighbors.
It seems to me to be providential that this offering is being collected on November 22, just a week after the World
Day of the Poor. The connection is so clear. Your support makes a real difference for people living in poverty
across our archdiocese. As I write to you today, I ask you to consider a sacrificial gift to the Catholic Charities
Campaign for Charity and Justice. You may visit www.catholiccharitiesny.org/ccj/.
With gratitude and prayerful best wishes to all for a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving, I am,
Devotedly yours in Christ,
+Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan
Archbishop of New York

Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Our Thanksgiving Food Baskets, which provide food
for needy families in our area for Thanksgiving dinner,
will be assembled again this year. Previously we collected food at
the back of the Church. However, to reduce the risk of contagion,
we will follow the same procedures as for Easter and are asking for
monetary donations to be made to the Church for this purpose.
Members of the Women’s Guild will then purchase the food for the
baskets. Your donations can be mailed in or dropped off at the
Rectory. Please indicate “Thanksgiving Food Baskets” on your check
or envelope.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Your support is greatly
appreciated and is needed in these times more than ever!
The Annual Women’s Guild Bake Sale
The Women’s Guild will hold their annual Bake Sale in the Parish Hall
on Sunday, November 22nd after the 8am, 10:15am and 12 Noon
Sunday Masses. Please wear your mask and maintain social distance.
Donations of baked goods are requested. All baked goods should be
securely wrapped and labeled. The donations may be dropped off at
the Hall before each Mass. For further
information, contact Nancy Raymond (677-5763)
or Fanny Manzi (677-3243). Thank you.

SECOND READING 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6
Let the day of the Lord not overtake you like a thief.
Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people
are saying, “Peace and security”, then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a
pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you
are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us
not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.
GOSPEL Matthew 25: 14-30
Since you were faithful in small matters, come, share your master’s joy.
Jesus told his disciples this parable: “A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his
possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one — to each according to
his ability. Then he went away. Immediately, the one who received five talents went and traded with
them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who
received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master’s money.
After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who
had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me five
talents. See, I have made five more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.
Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your
master’s joy.’ Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave
me two talents. See, I have made two more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful
servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your
master’s joy.’ Then the one who had received one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you
were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter;
so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.’ His master said to him in
reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did
not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with
interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. For to
everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he
has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be
wailing and grinding of teeth.’”
